Admin Privs When Joining Domain
Hello,
When I attempt to join the domain using YaST (openSUSE's system
configuration tool) or 'net join DOMAIN,' it prompts me for a network
admin's username/password. The IT network admin already manually joined the
machine to the network's AD domain (server-side), but Samba still needs a
username/password. The workstations are batch-installs and are unattended,

Open Source NAS/NFS solution
Hi
Has anyone got any ideas on a nfs/nas appliance that i can install on
x86 hardware with a few JBOD shelves attached to it. I would like an
appliance like install and based on CentOS would be great. I really like
the look of www.openfiler.com but it seems to be only in RC release
stage so i don't think the 'boss' would like that idea.
thanks

Recode function car package erases previous values
Hi all,
I am attempting to create a new variable based on values of other variables. The variable is called pharm. It basically takes the numeric code of 1 as yes and 0 to be No from the variable B20_C1 (a question on a survey). However, I would also like to have a level for non-respondents and these are captured in the variable nr.B20C, which is a 1 when there is a non-response on the whole group

Questions about saving output files and popup
Hi all:
After calculating in R I want to show the answer and some explanations not
graphic plots in another new device and then save it as txt.file. However, I
couldn't find any package or command to do it yet. I know some commands about
generating graphics on different types of display or printing device. ex :
windows(), postscript(), pdf() and etc. But these all works for graphic plots,

Storage Recommendations
Hello,
We are going to buy some NFS storage for 6-8 VMs on a single host, but
want to expand to a second host.
What storage recommendations would you give if you have between 2000
and 5000 USD?
How about nexenta? what hardware would you use? any vendor?
Experiences with openfiler and opennas?
Thanks for the responses.

remove rows of a matrix by part of its row name
Hello,
Please always cc the list.
As for the question, yes, it does. If you want to remove just the ones
with exactly 73.1 use the pattern
grep("^73\\.1$", etc)
Explanation:
Beginning of string: ^
End of string: $
Escape special characters: \\ (needed because the period is a special
character.)
Hope this helps,

Robust variance estimation with rq (failure of the bootstrap?)
I am fitting quantile regression models using data collected from a
sample of 124 patients. When modeling cross-sectional associations, I
have noticed that nonparametric bootstrap estimates of the variances
of parameter estimates are much greater in magnitude than the
empirical Huber estimates derived using summary.rq's "nid" option.
The outcome variable is severely skewed, and I am

using Linux as a NAS / SAN device
Hi,
I'm looking at using Linux as a NAS / SAN device, and would like some
input from other's who have done this before?
How would it compare to commercial SAN devices, Thecus N8800SAS
(http://www.thecus.com/products_over.php?cid=11&pid=177&set_language=english)
or something similar to these?
I would probably use hardware RAID 10, and could go with either SAS /
SATA, and then

Any plans for storing messages on a database?
Redudancy and recovering from a mailstore failure is one of the concerns I
am trying to address where I work.
Any plans to have Dovecot store emails in a database?
NAS/SAN devices which do automatic replication to a second device are
extremely expensive.
I also don't see any distributed filesystem which is mature and available
for the OS we use (FreeBSD).
I recall at one point, many

OT: Recommendations for a virtual storage server
Hi all,
I need to install a virtual machine acting as a virtual storage server under
CentOS 5.x (using kvm, xen, virtualbox or vmware). This virtual storage machine
needs to server storage to another ESXi server and at the same time to the host
where is installed.
This is due to the limitations of hardware I have available. Both hosts needs to
server several machines.

using CentOS as an iSCSI server?
Has anyone succesfully setup, and used CentOS as an iSCSI server? I'm
trying to setup a server with 4x500GB HDD's, setup in RAID 10 to act
as an iSCSI server for a virtualization project, but I can't find a
decent howto on how to setup an iSCSI server using CentOS.
I would like to setup something like Openfiler, but we also need todo
some other stuff that OpenFiler doesn't

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Hello everyone,
I''m quite a newbie with Xen and I''m currently having an issue.
I run Xen 4 on Debian Squeeze x64 and I''m trying to build an OpenFiler DomU from the Xen domU filesystem tarbal they provide (See http://www.openfiler.com/community/download/).
I downloaded the tarball and run ''tar xzpvf /root/soft/openfiler-2.3-x86_64.tar.gz'' to extract

CentOS MD RAID 1 on Openfiler iSCSI
Has anybody tried or knows if it is possible to create a MD RAID1
device using networked iSCSI devices like those created using
OpenFiler?
The idea I'm thinking of here is to use two OpenFiler servers with
physical drives in RAID 1, to create iSCSI virtual devices and run
CentOS guest VMs off the MD RAID 1 device. Since theoretically, this
setup would survive both a single physical drive

Issues with iSCSI, Hosts Crashing
Two questions (and then a bonus one), kind of interrelated, but, first, some basic info. I'm using OCFS2 on OpenSUSE 10.2, kernel 2.6.18.8(-0.7). There are three nodes in the OCFS2 cluster, backed by Openfiler iSCSI storage.
First, I'm using Openfiler and iSCSI volumes to back my OCFS2 file system. The nodes that are part of the OCFS2 cluster use the file system as a shared storage

Samba/LDAP appliance recommendation
Hi all,
What's a good Samba+LDAP appliance these days for a small business?
Currently I used a stock Ubuntu server and did all Samda/LDAP configuration
manually. I'm looking for something that can allow my regular staff to use
as well.
1. I tried most of the popular NAS distros, like FreeNAS, NAS4Free,
OpenmediaVault, etc. Most of these NAS don't have an LDAP server built-in

Here is something I am currently lokoing at, and wondering if you'd
considered it or if anyone here has done it.
I've got a bunch of existing hardware - really good IBM stuff that is
all installed with CentOS (with a few exceptions). We want to move to
virtualization, but

loess coefficients output
May I inquire about how to obtain the coefficients from a loess fit of
multiple covariates? I have tried terms and coef, but it does not provide
me with the coefficients to identify the terms of the entire regression
equation.
Many thanks
