Unreliable connection to Samba PDC - Connections get lost, Roaming Profiles do not sync, Files can't be written, etc..
Hello all! I am having severe problems with my Samba PDC. 1. My Roaming profile in 3 out of 10 times does not get synchronized correctly with the server - without any obvious reason. This sometimes destroys my profile by losing data and commonly from then on the profile is never again synchronized correctly. A backup restore of the computer is necessary. 2. When I edit a document (e.g. word

Samba crashes & floods logfiles: "smbd/notify_inotify.c:244(inotify_handler) - No data on inotify fd?!"
Dear Group members! Since I have set up a Samba PDC-Server (openSUSE 11.2-64bit with default package Samba 3.4.3) approx. 8 months ago, I have encountered 3 or 4 times a severe crash of Samba. What happens is that all over a sudden Samba floods /var/log/messages and /var/log/warn with the following message (cropped out date/time/servername, etc.): smbd[19724]:

roaming profile not uploaded correctly when logging out for the first time
I have a strange issue with roaming profiles. It only happens for users which has no roaming profile on a Samba server yet. When a user logs out for the first time, some files can't be copied from: C:\Documents and Settings\username\SendTo\ to a profiles directory on the server. (Files like 31/2Floppy(A).lnk, some *.tmp files etc.). Only very rarely, a first-time logout process happens

samba 3.5.x, pdbedit smb.conf and profiles
Who wins the fight for the roaming profile path, "logon path" in smb.conf or "profile path" set by pdbedit? How do you force the "profile path" in pdbedit to get its value from "logon path" in smb.conf? Is it possible to disable roaming profiles by user with pdbedit and leave "logon path" set in smb.conf? Thanks.

Problem with Windows 7 and roaming profiles
Hello together, we try to setup a samba domain controller with LDAP and roaming profiles for Win7-Clients. Everything looks fine last Friday but today the clients did not longer save changes to the profiles. There is no error in samba log and also no in the windows log. If I delete a profile from a client it is loaded correctly at next logon, but the changes are not saved at logout. Windows XP

Roaming Profiles:Samba PDC:WinXP:User must be local admin
I'm having a problem with Roaming profiles in Windows XP with Samba as PDC. I've googled and trolled the mailing lists and read the Samba documentation. Problem: User logs onto domain from WinXP client and profile is downloaded (you can tell because it takes a long time and lights on hub are lit up). However, unless that user is in the admin group locally, all/some of the profile

user's profiles relating to each version of Windows
Hi I have samba 3.4.3 PDC/LDAP server with roaming profiles. Unfortunatelly I have to add to domain windows 7 and vista so I thought that it would be good if I separate profiles based on Windows version. So i Have added this to my smb.conf: logon script = scripts\logon.bat logon home = \\THOR\%U\windows logon path = \\THOR\%U\windows\.profiles\%a logon drive = H: I'm adding users with

cached credentials local login -- notebook domain members
Hallo, I wonder if cached credentials local logins are expected to work with samba. I have users with notebooks that I want to be domain members. If the notebook is in the wild I want the users to use their profiles (either local or roaming) stored on the notebooks. But once disconnected from the network the users can't login. I found a thread:

Samba Forum vs. Mailing List?`!
Hello everyone, I wanted to ask if there is an official Samba Forum, because I could not find any on the Project Page. If there isn't any, is there a particular reason for this not-existance? Best regards Tom H. Lautenbacher

how to "hide" the desktop.ini file on roaming profiles?
Hi people, im new on the list. I have a samba 3.0.10 working as a PDC with roaming profiles for win2003 clients. The problem is that the windows 2003 uses a lot of desktop.ini "hiden files" that when i save this on my roaming profile and i log back in for the second time i lost this "hiden bit" on the desktop.ini files and i see them everywhere. Profiles ...
Greetings ... This is a stupid question which have been wanting to ask for awhile, and hope somebody can help me. Profiles, if I understand it correctly come in two forms, local and roaming? Now local in on the computer the user uses and roaming is one that is download from the server when the user logs in. Now, where my problem is, when I have some users who have huge documents folder,

just logins now and shares later
Hey, I'm still waiting for the new file server hardware to arrive so I plan to enable user logins in the meantime without profiles and home directories. Reason for this is quite some pressure from people. The setup on the 2 DCs should be done a day or two. Could there be problems if I configure profiles and home directories some weeks after users logged in for the first time? What if e.g.

Home shares staying (NT4)
I am having the same trouble with automatically mounted home shares with samba 2.2.1a (PDC, domain logins, roaming profiles) and NT4WS sp6a. If I login as one user, logout, then login as another, I can view the previous users home share as well as my newly logged in users home share (lather, rinse, repeat...). The NT box has a machine account, domain logins work, profiles work, login scripts

Best practice in small office
Hi folks, I've been reading the definitive guide to samba3 and Samba3 by example as well as scouring on line for advice. Sometimes however I find different suggested solutions to the same problem, so perhaps the list can give me some help with current strategies for these issues. We are a small office and are currently going through an IT refurb. Previously we've had a mix of laptops and

Samba 3.4, Windows 7, Roaming profiles and Folder redirection
Hello, I'm quite new to Samba administration and I've inherited a working samba setup with roaming profiles however the login and logout times for users has been growing and I'm starting to think it's time do something about it. I'm thinking redirect some folders to a samba share on the network will speed up the login and logout times. Our setup has 25 Windows 7 workstations

Roaming profiles with Samba3
Good morning everyone. I wanted to ask the people on this list who are currently using roaming profiles with samba 3 how it is working? I worked a little with roaming profiles with 2.2.8a, but it was not working as well as I wanted it to and im hoping that samba 3 roaming profiles are working pretty well. Our network here is really calling for roaming profiles to be a major option here. Our

Roaming profiles. How to do it ?
Hi all.. I'm using Samba 3.0.2a on Mandrake 10, serving +/- 50 win98 clients. I'm using this options: logon path = \\%N\%U\profile logon home = \\%N\%U\profile but the roaming profile seems do not working... at least the way that I want. (maybe this is the right behavior). What I want: -> When an user logins on MACHINE1 the profile that is saved in Linux begin download to
