User permissions on other users home directory
Hello, I have 5 users that need to be able to read and write from each others home directorys. How I have done this is by creating a group office, adding these 5 users to the office group, and then changing ownership of users home directorys to user1:office However, when user1 edits a file in his home directory, user2 can no longer edit it, even though both users are in the office group. I don't want to require my users to authenticate to print
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi folks, My ancient debian server was running some old version of samba. Any machine in the network could connect to the LAN, find any of the printers attached to the server, and print to their heart's content. I've upgraded the OS on the server to Ubuntu 12.04LTS desktop 32-bit. This distro comes with Samba 3.6. The file share is set up

Hi, I am having some problems setting permissions to access a Samba share on my Windows XP box. So what follows is all the information I thought would be useful to helping me out. Firstly, neither box has a firewall running. Both computers are able to ping each other's IPs. When on my XP box, I go to "Map Network Drive" I am able to find my Samba computer \\Server in my workgroup

I am so frustrated - Samba ports not opening and no error message
Okay - I've been plugging away and it got to the point that running smbclient was returning information about an Alfresco install that I never used, so I went ahead and deleted everything I could find on my machine that said "alfresco". I then removed samba using apt-get from the machine by typing apt-get remove --purge samba I deleted the /etc/samba directory and re-installed

Phantom sharename
smbclient reports there is a sharename 'l' that points to /usr/local/Documents on the host, but there is no reference to it in the smb.conf file. And it helps if In smb.conf : workgroup = WORKGROUP and workgroup in windows are the same. Can you access based on \\ip\share and \\hostname\share ? Greetz, Louis >

2 Servers different gid?
Hi All, I have 2 servers both running a compiled version of samba and winbind. They use my Windows Active Directory for user authentication via kerberoes. All that works fine and I can see and authenticate as any user. Every user on both machines have the same uid, the problem is the groups from the windows domain have different gid?s on each of the servers. I am using nfs to export the
