Wrong results in dir listing with wildcard
My Samba server is a new install of Ubuntu 10.4 x86 with Samba 3.4.7.
Samba is configured as standalone, and shares only a single directory
/data for backup purposes.
I stumbled across this issue while trying to get my original problem
fixed (which I did, thanks to this helpful list.) Run the following in
a temporary directory:
echo abc > ActivePerl-5.10.1.1007-MSWin32-x86-291969.msi

Listing Domain Local Groups from a Samba Member (NT4 PDC)
Good Morning to all,
Sorry if this is spam to some of you, not sure if this
is more technical or not...
Considering i have been fighting for a week now on this trying all
possible checks and configs out there on the net, i thought i better
come to the experts. ;o)
My last resort is to upgrade to latest samba ver which might help but i
think the bug was not fixed in this version not sure.. :o\

Hi,
I joined samba server (linux box centos 5.4) under samba 3.4.7 to
Windows Domain at windows server 2003. wbinfo -g shows me all the groups
from the AD and wbinfo -u shows me all the users.
Then yesterday i upgraded to samba version 3.5.2, restarted windbind and
smb. Then, when i make: wbinfo -g then i see nothing. wbinfo -u shows me

smbclient, DFS and not_defined_in_RFC4178 [samba 3.4.7 and windows 2003 sp2 AND 2008 sp2]
Hi all,
I'm trying to use DFS. Using smbclient 3.4.7 (distributed with Lucid) and windows servers with both 2008sp2 and 2003sp2.
Smbclient successfully lookups up our DCC's. If the first in the DNS reply is a 2003 server it works but if I get a 2008 it doesn't.
The main differences is that I get a "not_defined_in_RFC4178 at please_ignore" principal in the SMB Negotiate

samba PDC upgrade from 3.2.5 to 3.4.7
Hello everyone.
Yesterday i did an almost painless upgrade from samba pdc from 3.2.5 to
3.4.7. I'm running in a Debian Lenny (upgraded from the original package
to the backported one).
After a few tweaks i found on the web my users, including those who run
win7, where able to log in the domain. But now the cannot access the
shared folders on the server. Some users can't even open the

printmode on smbclient 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2
What happened to the command "printmode" on smbclient?
I'm using smbclient 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2, and I need to print a
binary file directly to the printer, without interpreting postscript or
pdf on it. It used to work fine on smbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.13.

win 7, samba 3.4.7, error 0x000003e6 with some printers
Hello,
I'm testing windows 7 with samba 3.4.7 and I'm using PrintUIEntry to
connect the printers.
With some of those printers the connection fails (client side) with
error 0x000003e6.
The strange thing is that:
1) trying the same connection against samba 3.0.11 works (alas, no
domain functionality with that old version) and
2) two of the failing printers share the same driver with

Visual Basic 6 file access to samba server Samba version 3.4.7 and Samba version 4.1.4 in Windows 8
Folks,
Starting here with a file access question regarding Visual Basic 6 to
Samba servers either 3.4.7 or version 4.1.4 under Ubuntu. Just want
to see if anyone out there has seen something similar. There doesn't
seem to be any info on this on the web. I know it's VB 6, but it's a
legacy system that won't be updated. Microsoft will support VB 6 until 2024

Permissions problem with Windows Vista / 7 clients, Debian Samba 3.4.7 server
I'm having a very strange permissions problem with Samba 3.4.7 (installed
via backports.org) running on Debian Lenny:
If a Windows 7 or Windows Vista client tries to use Windows Explorer to
access a user's home directory with permissions 0700, the client gets a
permission denied error.
If the directory is made world readable, it works. (For one user, group
readable also works. For

Smbget 3.4.7 Permission Denied in Crontab, Not in Interactive Console Session?
Assembled Wisdom,
I was trying to help this poor guy on the intertubes who is having some
bizarre issues with running smbget (version 3.4.7) from a cron script?
Is there are some weird environment variables or something I am missing
that is off-limits to the sh in cron that prevents this from working?

Samba 3.4.7-0.2, Windows 7, roaming profile issues
After update from 3.0 to 3.4.7 roaming profiles were not being saved
on XP. Disabled ipv6 on our Samba server (some update must have
re-enabled it) and rebooted. Now profiles on XP seem to be working OK
again.
Not so for Windows 7. This is a newly set up Windows 7 machine,
registry fixes were applied as indicated here:

was able to join domain, and

Problems connecting to samba 3.4.7 from subnets
Hi,
We have encountered a strange problem recently. We are running Samba
as a virtual server on VMware esxi 4.1.
The samba version is 3.4.7 and it is connected via one network
interface eth0, which seems to have network connectivity as we are
able to ping the other subnets.
We are residing on the subnet 192.168.100.0/24 and the rest of the
offices are on the subnets 192.168.101.0/26,

upgraded 3.0.28a-2 to 3.4.7-0.2, profile desktop configuration no longer saved
Upgraded a Samba server from 3.0.28a-2 to 3.4.7-0.2. Initially the XP
workstations could not log on (not finding machine account) then
discovered a new "passdb" variable, so added to smb.conf:
passdb backend = smbpasswd
and also changed all browseable -> browsable. Restarted the server.
Domain logins worked. Test files saved to desktop are retained between
logins (are stored in

group names with longer names than 30 chars [winbind 3.4.7]
Hi All,
I'm unable to do lookups on groups that have a longer name than 30 characters.
Is this a known problem and does it help to upgrade?
Are there any workaround for this?

[3.4.7] Right way to provide full access?
Hello
I'd like to configure Samba on a test host running Ubuntu so that I
have full read/write access from XP to a sub-directory of the root
filesystem.
The host is located on a LAN behind a firewall, so security is not an
issue, ie. I'd like to configure Samba with no/minimal security.
Currently, I can read but can't write. Between /etc/passwd, smb.conf,
and access rights to the

ham,Re: samba PDC upgrade from 3.2.5 to 3.4.7
Hi John. It worked well just before the upgrade. I'm not saying that
this is correct, but is the reason why users aren't accessing? Also,
should'n this give some specific error in the logs?
Tks in advance.
