Samba 3.0.23c PANIC during registering computer into domain
Hello, Recently I've had a chance to test samba 3.0.23c on debian etch (unstable) with LDAP as PDC. I found two problems, however I'd like to describe the second one: 1) I added users to LDAP so I could connect and I was able to authorize myself in samba via LDAP 2) I added my computer to LDAP but didn't check the SambaSID for my machine - in fact it was different than sambaSID

Security context stack overflow on Debian5+LDAP
Hi I'm setting up a Samba PDC, with auth over Zimbra's LDAP, with this howto: http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?title=UNIX_and_Windows_Accounts_in_Zimbra_LDAP_and_Zimbra_Admin_UI_6.0 System is a fully updated Debian 5. All packages from distro. Samba is 3.2.5-4lenny6. Now everything is almost ok, but I'm getting an error when trying to mount the samba share: [2009/09/10 09:44:07,

pdb_increment_bad_password_count: pdb_get_account_policy failed.
Hi all, When a particular user tries to log into a machine that is a member of an LDAP backed Samba domain, the following is logged: [2008/03/25 09:09:23, 0] passdb/passdb.c:pdb_increment_bad_password_count(1477) pdb_increment_bad_password_count: pdb_get_account_policy failed. Obviously "something" is wrong with the password policies, but the error message gives to clue as to

Blocking certain hostnames/clients
Hello, As a result of learning of the new 'Intro' App introduced by LinkedIn, and discussing how to block SMTP access to my postfix server from these clients, I'm now interested in doing the same for dovecot. Bottom line desire is to avoid scraping/hijacking email stored on my dovecot server by any client other than a users client. This includes Intro (so, LinkedIn), Blackberry,

pdb_increment_bad_password_count
After moving from Redhat AS4 to RHEL 5.5 we started noticing these error messages in the messages log. Upgrade procedure was to build new machine with updated OS, install new samba, duplicate existing ldap server connections, and then shutdown the old box and put new one in place. Messages were not seen on AS4 box and smb.conf file is identical on new box. I am wondering if there was a change

hanging imap... and users getting other users' emails!
Hi All, We recently upgraded from UW (boy, starting to sound like a broken record, eh?)... Two problems: 1. Every two or three days users are unable to access their email via IMAP. It seems that it's because dovecot-auth has hung. Has anyone seen anything like this? 2. (the really serious one)... one of our users, "angie" has twice had her Outlook download

Samba 4.1.11 crashes sporadically
Hi, I thought I should share this unusual behaiviour of samba 4.1.11. All of a sudden while I tried to delete a Folder via samba on a share it crashed. I was using Mac OSx's V 10.9.4 internal samba client (regular "CMD+K" mount via Finder). Server: [...] FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE-p7 #0: Tue Jul 8 06:37:44 UTC 2014 root at amd64-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC

Moving away from samba 3.0.28
Hi all, We use samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.8 (Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS) as our company's DC and fileserver with LDAP authentication against an OpenLDAP 2.4.9-0ubuntu0.8.04.3. We are having some trouble regarding filesystem permissions and ACL administration, so we plan to move on to a newer version of samba. We'd love to move to an AD solution, but it seems samba4 is not yet ready for production

Upgrade from 3.5.6 to 3.6.12 causes errors in password TDB
We're having trouble with our samba PDC since the upgrade to 3.6.12. We've got a standard smbpassword file using TDB and I;ve run tdbtool and tdbbackup over the file and both report no errors. The PDC will run for several hours handling hundreds of users and will then catastrophically fail with each daemon process reporting the following in turn:

Mount errors,....try try again
Warning this will be a lengthy post. I?ve been beating my head on my desk for days now. I have a Samba PDC in an NT4 domain. I have several domain member servers and a non domain member server. Versions really don?t matter but for the sake of argument the systems that are ?working? are all CENTOS 4.7 systems using 3.0.28 Samba. My procedure is this: I mount a Domain member share on the non

Bad Password Count Problem -- LDAP connection failed
Dear Help, Initially, I thought that I had solved this problem, but it turns out that I haven't. I currently have Samba set up as a PDC with an eDirectory/LDAP backend. There are also a few Samba BDCs in play as well. If a user enters the correct password, there are no issues and everything authenticates fine. If I turn off the PDC and force a user to authenticate against a BDC with the

samba authentication not auth'ing
Trying to set up a SAMBA print server using SlackWare 8.1. Have successfully joined it to the domain, but cannot browse into the shares, as it constantly asks for a password, and refuses to accept any including root and NTamdin accounts. Anybody have any ideas error logs and smb.conf are below. This is from the machine specific log file: [2002/08/21 11:41:56, 0]

join domain without root
Dear Samba gurus, I am still using Samba 2.2.8a; I have not seen an announcement that this issue would be fixed in 3.0.2; all that follows refers to 2.2.8a. Quoting from Samba-PDC-HOWTO.html (or Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html): Joining the Client to the Domain Windows 2000 ... Windows prompts for an account and password that is privileged to join the domain. A Samba administrative

dmapi doesn't work on aix; possible fix included
I'm running samba 3.0.23c on aix 5.3 TL4. I'm using Tivoli HSM 5.3.4.0 on a JFS2 filesystem. Samba compiled fine, and I set "dmapi support = yes" in smb.conf, but samba wouldn't recognize offline files ("migrated files" in tsm terminology). After setting a higher log level I think I've tracked down the problem. The patch is at the bottom of this email.

RES: Acess windows 2003 to samba 3.0.10
Hi Neo I installed the samba 3.0.23.d, because I thought that it is a """""stable version""""", but the problem continued. Same error, same problem: "smbd/sesssetup.c:setup_new_vc_session() setup_new_vc_session: New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would ". I tried to use your command: "/usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -V Version 2.2.08a
