Linux does not care. Only Windows cares.

The posix name of the server does not matter. Nor does the DNS name
as it can have more than one DNS name. You need to work with Samba as
a somewhat separate entity. It is simply easier to match

RE : Domain not found in Samba 4 AD
I tried your solution, reinstalling my server and my DNS, and I put as name : domaine.ch
I have not reinstalled all Samba 4, but when it's doing, I'll gives new!
This may be the name: Samba can cause confusion
Thank you

smbclient works with IP address but not hostname
Hi All,
I've configured a Fedora 20 server with samba to share a few user
directories and a printer.
From a Windows 8 laptop, I am able to address the samba server by it's
name (fs1)
From a Fedora 20 client (ws1), I am able to address the samba server by
IP address, but not by name.

samba 4.0.6 getent group
Hello all listies.
I've got samba4.0.6 running on FreeBSD 9.1.
Joined W2K12 domain as member server.
running getent group I noticed it takes a long time to resolve groups.
The result is correct, but it is inordinately long.
With 3.6.13 on FreeBSD 9.1 the return is nearly instantaneous.
smb4.conf looks like this.

workgroup = TMS3
security = ADS
realm = TMS3.COM

Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly[Closed]
Unfortunately we're not able to install more software of radically change any configurations. We also do not use LDAP (just a workgroup, hosts file, static IPs and Samba). But those are good ideas, I'll keep them in mind just in case. Major thanks.
:-)

FW: Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly
Takahashi, thanks for your response.
No antivirus software is installed, firewall disabled completely.
I might have to go the sniffer route. But this is XP and Samba, both old products. I can't imagine that I'd be the first one to have such a ridiculous problem trying to get XP to be able to browse a Samba box. This is fresh WinXP right out of the box (with SP3) having this problem,

Best method for this?
I have two linux machines and a W2K box. I am going to upgrade the linux boxes SuSE 9.2 this coming weekend. The one box (WS 1) will be acting as a distrubuted 'server' for files/applications and a impact printer. The other linux box (WS2) will be my primary workstation. The W2K box will be used by other memebers of the family.
I want to use WS1 as a Samba server and be able to share
