Samba 3 and cupsaddsmb
I can't even get cupsaddsmb to work right. I followed the configuration instructions from the documentation, and my smb.conf matches what the cupsaddsmb man page says.
I am getting extremely frustrated with this and not being able to allow clients to download drivers from Samba.
With cupsaddsmb, this is the error I am receiving when it gets to this point, over and over:

problems with cupsaddsmb
Hi!
I'm using Suse 9.0 with cups 1.1.19 and Samba 3.0. I'm trying to share
my printer on the network. Testparm runs without errors and I can see my
printer in the network neighborhood. So the smb.conf should be fine.
But when I try to install the driver with cupsaddsmb I get the following
error.

CUPS removal of cupsaddsmb
Hi All,
I was recently directed to look at some upstream CUPS changes which
impact Samba's printer server functionality: cupsaddsmb has been dropped
via
https://github.com/apple/cups/commit/f1def5b85f51120f5dc1eb21e1f38860ef41be9c
Given that it's only just gone in, I wouldn't expect it to reach distros
for some time, but I think it's worth discussing how/whether we should
react.

Automating cupsaddsmb or some alternative
I am developing a print server for a client, and I need to make the ability
to add and configure print servers as simple as possible. So far, cups and
samba are top notch, but there are two problems I have.
One, I need to restart the samba service every time I add a printer.
Two, I need to log in via console or SSH to run cupsaddsmb, and I need to
then authenticate.
I was wondering if there was

cupsaddsmb - why the heck can't I get rpcclient-addprinter to work?
I can't seem to get the rpcclient-addprinter to work - grrrrrr
It looks like the drivers files are copied correctly and the NT drivers are added
correctly but the addprinter command says it's unsuccessful!
rpcclient localhost -N -U JOHNSON\\root -c 'enumprinters'
shows the printer!!
What's going on? I've tried removing
/var/cache/samba/ntdrivers.tdb

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all,
I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and
cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to
add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having
difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use.
I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot

Problems when using cupsaddsmb
Hi!
First of all, I have to admit that it is my first post on this list, so
please be lenied toward me, if I don't obey some of the rules ;-) I'll
try my best :-)
I am just trying to get my samba-server work as a print server by using
CUPS. The OS of the server is Gentoo Linux and I'm using samba-3.0.9-r1.
The clients are win 2k/xp home. I can already see my shares (files and

Update from 3.5.10 to 3.6.23 broke cupsaddsmb
As an update to fix the badlock vulnerability I applied some updates to
our (RHEL5-based) samba printer server last night, taking it from version
0:3.5.10-0.109.el5_8 to 0:3.6.23-12.el5_11 (rpm package versions).
After this change attempts to add printer drivers with cupsaddsmb produced
errors of the form:

cupsaddsmb
Hi all,
I'm trying to add printers with cupsaddsmb on Samba 3.0.20 (Mandrake Linux)
with an LDAP backend. I've followed the howto on the samba page and have the
error:
result was WERR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME
generated when I run it. So far I've Googled for the solution but nothing
listed has helped. The full set of errors are as follows:
