I don't want to manage two user db's. I want the vpn server to ask the domain controller for a valid user account. So I've installed the nessecary stuff on the vpn server. [PATCH] RFC: Running initscripts from kinit
For our platforms, we'd like to embed several different userland scripts / programs that are executed before we have mounted the root filesystem as part of the initramfs payload. Specifically, I'd like to have multiple scripts executed before do_mounts(), so I coded up this simple do_initscripts function that executes all executables found in /etc/init.d in alphabetically sorted order. simple cross-network browsing setup is failing
PROBLEM: Cross-subnet browsing is not working. Browse lists on all machines contain only the machines on the local subnet. SUMMARY OF ANALYSIS: The Local Master Browser (LMB) running Windows XP (ZAYIN) never contacts the Domain Master Browser (DMB) running Samba (BETH) to initiate a synchronization of browse lists.

Source RPM compile error
Hi, all. I have several boxes with CentOS versions 3.x, 4.x, and 5.x running in my shop, with Samba loaded on many. I've been able to stay on the current version of Samba in CentOS 4.x and 5.x using the source RPM from Sernet. However, I'm not able to upgrade Samba on the CentOS 3.x boxes. Here's the error I get when I run "rpmbuild --rebuild --clean

win2k/samba problem
I am unable to see my samba server from my Win2k Pro machine. Can someone please help me out? I had a problem with Samba early on. The problem was resoved by removing TCP/IP from my Win2k machine and then reinstalling TCP/IP. Now I've stumbled into this problem. The following error is repeated over and over in my event viewer: ------------------------------ Event Type: Error Event

winbind_krb5_locator usage
Hello, I have different Sites in my domain and want the different members to use the respective domain controller of their site. I can't get this to work right. I have a member that is in site B but executing "net ads info" outputs the DC of site A as active. I read about enabling "winbind_krb5_locator", but it is already located in

ZAPtel channel dance
Zaptel installs an /etc/modprobe.d/zaptel and an /etc/{defaults,sysconfig}/zaptel that list the modules in a different order, so If you happen to have a TDM2400P and a TDM[124]xxP, all channels change their numbers if you do a /etc/initd/zaptel restart. This is slightly confusing. (I'd file a bug if there were a bug tracking system that allowed users to submit bugs). Yours, Florian

Samab and init.d
Is it better to start Samba using in initd, or to use the script, much like the one provided by SuSE. ?? so far I have used the script, but I don't like the fact of having to start samba manually. I would much prefer to see it run as a service. just to confirm all it really involves is starting smbd and nmbd Rowan [TSS] Gerber Scientific Products http://www.gspinc.com

Win2k Master Browser believes Linux box is master browser
Hi, We currently have a very small network with a Windows Small Business Server acting as an ADS Master Browser, we also have a Debian Sarge Samba Server, this sharing a single directory at the Share level (security is not really that dig a concern, as this is open to anyone in the company). The Samba server has the workgroup set the the same domain as the Windows ADS, but it has not joined

Compiling 3.2.4 --with-krb5=/usr/lib/krb5, not working
Hi all, I'm currently attempting to compile Samba 3.2.4 for Solaris 10 x86. I require krb5 support and I realised that it would not look in the correct default location, under Solaris 10. Example, from ./configure --help: --with-krb5=base-dir Locate Kerberos 5 support (default=/usr) In vanilla Solaris 10 x86, Kerberos libraries are stored in /usr/lib/ krb5. I thought it best to
