Odd Virsh Capabilities response
Tried to migrate a few VMs from existing system to an older host that we
threw in the rack to facilitate some server reshuffling.
Migration complained about lack of capabilities (which I expected its an
older server) but when I looked at what I should throw into the xml file
I got a core2duo when it should have been at least Penryn or something
(Xeon E5345)
Of course the VMs work fine with

Backup methods for an Oracle DB
Hi,
I've been testing different methods and I'd like to have some advice.
I want to perform a cold backup once a week on the Oracle DB, and put it
on tape. I'm using EMC Networker for backup software, and I am not too
at ease with the fact of doing eveything with Networker, because if
there is a problem with the backup, the Oracle DB might not come up
after the backup run.

Patching openssl rpms
Running CentOS release 5.5.
I'm trying to update or patch an SRPMS file, specifically
openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5_4.6.src.rpm.
Basically, I'm trying to change one line in the source, in ssl/ssl.h. I create
a "diff ?u" file called openssl-ssl-h.patch.
I then edit the openssl.spec file, and add 2 lines to that in the appropriate
place:
Patch88: openssl-ssl-h.patch

ca-bundle.crt expired
I notice that the certificate /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt
on my CentOS-5.5 system expired on 7 Jan 2010,
although the openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5_4.6 package was updated in March.
What is the point of this certificate?

GPLPV 0.10.0.69 Blue Screen 0x0000007B
Trying to install them on Xen 3.4.0, Intel E5345 Processors, Server 2008
64bit. I get the BSoD on boot with the 0x0000007B stop message. I''ve
got a bunch of 2003 32bits running on the same host with the 0.10.0.69
drivers and those are totally happy. I tried the boot once with NOGPLPV
idea mentioned in another thread, that didn''t do the trick.
Ideas anyone?

CPU and FBDIMM thermal monitoring
I'm running Centos5 x86_64 on an ASUS DSBV-DX/SAS mainboard with a
Xeon E5345 quad core CPU. The mainboard BIOS shows me all the thermal
information about CPU and the FBDIMMs as well as the fan rotation
speeds. ACPI is set to version 3.0 in the BIOS.
Under Centos5 I can't see any of these information under
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone. This directory is just empty. Do I have to

Duplicated DTMF with bridged IAX channels maybe?
Hi,
I have a duplicated DTMF issue with, it appears, bridged IAX channels.
I have the following setup:
PRI IAX
<-------->* PSTN <------->* Dialplan
I've configured a number on the dialplan server to make and outbound
call to the pstn. This call then comes back into the dialplan server
to SayDigits().
I'm seeing that a few of my digits are being duplicated

limited resolution on DVI and HDMI at the same time
I got 1920x1200 at 59.95Hz via DVI and 3840x2160 at 60.00Hz via HDMI at the
same time with the proprietary nvidia driver.
I get flickering on the 1920x1200 at 59.95 with the nouveau driver (it
doesn't flicker if I lower it to 1920x1080 at 59.96).
Any idea why?

Nouveau DRM failure on 5120x1440 screen with 5.8/5.9 kernel
I'm having a problem with both the 5.8 and 5.9 kernels using the nouveau DRM
driver. I have a laptop with a VGA card (specs below) connected to a 5120x1440
screen. At boot time, the card correctly detects the screen, tries to allocate
fbdev fb0, then the video hangs completely for 15-30 seconds until it goes
blank.
This used to work in Linux 5.7 and earlier, although it allocated a 3840x1080

Problem with external monitor on laptop
I am running opensuse Leap 15 on an Alienware laptop. When I plug a
monitor into the HDMI socket xrandr shows that is disconnected. How can
I get the system to send an event or something so it will look and see
that a monitor is there. If I cycle power on the computer with the
monitor connected both monitors come up connected. The command xrandr
--auto does not bring the disconnected monitor
