A/V sync strategies
I tried to encode some video from a DVD with encoder_example and
ffmpeg2theora, and it looked great, except that with both encoders the
A/V sync would drift noticeably after about 10 minutes, and by the end
of a two hour movie it would be a couple seconds off. So instead of just
whining about this and waiting for someone else to fix it, I decided to
try to learn about what's causing the

[LLVMdev] Compiler Centric Career Opportunities in finance
Hi --
I'm working with a number of finance companies in New York City and Chicago which are looking to develop languages and platforms in order to process extremely large datasets. As such, we are looking for people with experience and / or interest in programming language and compiler design -- hence my posting on the LLVM mailing list.

Samba Team? - "ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not fou n d"
You can test if winbind is able to resolve user IDs internally with "wbinfo
-u". This uses the samba tool "wbinfo" to connect directly to the running
winbind daemon and list all the Windows domain users. If that fails, then
you have problems with the winbind daemon itself. The authentication between
winbind and the PDC can be tested with "wbinfo -t", which is usually

Samba Team? - "ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not foun d"
I've recompiled samba 2.2.3a and still any time I do a ls -l in a directory
where there are files from a PC I get the error :
ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol
socket: referenced symbol not found
If I shut off winbind or take winbind out for my /etc/nsswitch.conf file, I
can get a directory listing and it lists the users ID that winbind assigned

Re: [Astlinux-users] British English Female files ready for download
Mark,
While these samples are pretty good they do not work "out of the box" -
there are a couple of issues:
1. the samples are 44100 samples/second and Asterisk needs them to
be at 8000 samples/second. This is what happens if you prune out all of
the Amercian voicemail prompts and substitute yours:
Asterisk 1.2.7, Copyright (C) 1999 - 2006 Digium, Inc. and others.

Alison Keenan (free British English voice)
Hi Folks,
I have a few folks whom are interested in another recording session with
Alison Keenan but don't have enough work to justify her visit to the
studio.
If there's anyone whom would like her to do some work but hasn't got
around to it yet now might be the time. We need enough work to fill an
hour of her time. So far we have about 25 minutes.
Le me know off list.
Thanks

performance problem with 3.2.8: unbuffered reads for some users
Hi!
I'm experiencing strange performance problems after upgrading to samba
3.2.8 from 3.0.30.
For all users except smbadmin (who has administrative rights), read
performance is _very_ bad. Looking at the read-requests using filemon
and wireshark, I found out that for those users, every read is handled
transparently (unbuffered) over the net. (I.e. a 2 byte read-request of

samba server file read size limit of 64MB for HDF files
Sorry if that's a vague subject, but this problem is a little weird and I'm just wondering if there are any suggestions out there.
We've got a Samba server (3.0.23) running on a CentOS 5.3 server offering up a data share of 7TB on an XFS filesystem. The authentication all happens through a Samba PDC with an LDAP backend all on a different server. The system in question is just a

trouble with winbind
Hi,
I'm running samba, V3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE, on suse el9. I've successfully
bound one machine to active directory, I can login to the local box
using domain credentials. However, I can't get a second machine to
the domain, using the exact same procedures. The machine claims to be
bound,
wbinfo -t returns "checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded"
But, when I

User nobody logging in to shares instead of domain us er
I am assuming that you have guest ok = yes, and that guest is the nobody
account. It sounds like your name lookups are not searching winbind, do
you have winbind in your nsswitch.conf file for password and group? Have
you restarted your nameservice lookups (automatic on solaris, nsadmin
restart on Irix, don't know about other platforms but a reboot should
certainly take care of it if you

Posix vs. Windows File/Directory Permissions
I want to get a better understanding of what's happening between the posix
permissions and windows permissions.
I start with a Samba 4 AD DC with a share: /mnt/data
All subfolders and files have permissions and ownership that look like:
drwxrwxrwx. 539 root root 52K May 12 17:50
The Samba 4 Admin and User accounts are not local users on the linux
server; they are only AD domain accounts.

Winbind - Why won't you authenticate???
Well, I managed to get Samba 2.2.3 up and running on our Solaris 8 machine.
I installed with the winbind option and everything went though just find.
I was able to join the NT domain and now I can do a wbinfo -u "and get a
domain user list as well as a "wbinfo -g and get a group list. For some
reason though, the authentication isn't working.
I tried to "wbinfo -a" and

Dealing with sensitive files?
Hi there,
What do you people do when distributing files that only root should have
read access to?
What we''ve done is to put them in /etc/puppet/files (which is configured
to be a location served by puppet''s file server). Then we let puppet own
everything underneath /etc/puppet/files, and make those sensitive files
readable only by the puppet user.
In Ubuntu (which we use),

All read and write
I have problems in creating all read and write samba connection. I am
mounting an Ubuntu share to windows. A program I used in windows is able
to create folders and files but unable to have ownership of the folder or
write on the folder because once the folder is created, it is lock.
Here is my configuration:
