can join a domain, but users are not able to log in
Hi,
I have a samba server which should act as a domain controller. I did not
set up the server by myself.
I can "see" and use the servers shares with windows and linux clients.
Everithing - including the security settings - for the shares works as
expected.
I can join a client to the domain, this works with manual adding the
machine account as well as with the adduser script . I

Samba and trusted domains
Hi All,
I installed samba 3.0.22 and join it to Win2003 AD domain.
Users from my domain can access the samba shares successfully.
My problem is that users from trusted domains can not access to my samba
shares
Wbinfo -m - show all the trusted domains
Wbinfo -u - show all the users include the trusted domains users.
Any Idea?

Samba, OpenLDAP and Windows Vista
I have a Samba server set up to share files within a small network (with
2 clients) and I use OpenLDAP to store user accounts.
I have pretty much got everything working (smbclient prints the correct
information and I can browse and log into Samba via Nautilus) except I
can't get the Vista client to connect to Samba, as it won't even prompt
for a username and password it simply pops up

Problems with GID Samba 3.0.0 Beta2 Debian Testing
Hello,
I've got a somehow weird problem with the primary GID of samba users.
passdb backend is tdbsam.
when I connect to the samba server my gid is set to 2147483404 instead of
1002 (domainusers). The GID 1002 ist configured as my primary group in
/etc/passwd. This also happens with other usernames.
After deleting group_mapping.tdb this worked for some hours but the error
came back.

Samba 3.0.8 - Unable to login/logon from Windows 2003 or CIFS
Hi Folks,
Recently (I believe since recent 3.0.x releases), I have been unable to
login to a Samba instance using CIFS (Linux mount) or Windows 2003. If I
change the smb.conf from:
security = server
to
security = user
I _can_ login again fine. The NT PDC always replies with
NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. It's event viewer shows that the proper
username is being used, but that the password is

samba ADS-based authentication fails with NT_STATUS_USER_UNKNOWN but wbinfo works
Hi
I've found a few list posts with this problem but none of their
solutions helped.
Apologies for the long mail but I've no idea which section of the
various logs will be the important part.
I've set up a RHEL5.3 server (with Samba 3.0.33) to authenticate to an
existing active directory realm on our local network.
The AD server is Windows-based and works fine for a couple of

How to get users from a second AD domain recognized by samba?
I have an issue with getting my students access to the samba shares for
our lab's server. I am using authentication through our university's
active directory. I followed the directions for getting this set up
using winbind. I am using winbind for both samba authentication as well
as user logins through pam.
The trouble is this: I have no problems logging in and getting access to

Unable to login using 3.0.2a-SuSE as PDC and WinXP
Hello,
I've got a strange problem here: I installed Samba 3.0.2a using
the official rpms on a SuSE 9.0 machine.
I configured samba in the smb.conf as a PDC and created user and
machine accounts on the system as well as in the smbpasswd. Afterwards
I was able to join the domain with my Windows XP client.
After a reboot I am unable to log on to the Domain on my WinXP client.

Samba 3.0.20b in ADS mode with MIT realm trust problems
Hi all,
We're having some issues getting Samba to work in the way we'd like it
to in our domain infrastructure.
We have a real Windows domain WIN (WIN.DOC.IC.AC.UK) which is run on
Windows 2003 domain controllers. We also have an MIT Kerberos realm
DOC.IC.AC.UK. A realm trust exists such that WIN.DOC.IC.AC.UK trusts
DOC.IC.AC.UK for authentication, and users have appropriate Kerberos

ADS mode / MIT realm trust problem (3.0.20b)
Hi,
A final repost of the below issue -- we still are not making any
progress. It is unclear whether we need to be using winbind -- I don't
believe so, and the Terpstra Samba 3 book doesn't suggest that this is
necessary in this configuration; but please correct me if my
preconception is flawed.
If this is the 'wrong place' to ask -- any suggestions about where I

Mounting Linux Samba Shares on Windows when Active Directory Server is down
Hi,
I am running Samba 3.6.19 and making my way through all the Active
Directory documentation. I have joined various Linux boxes to a
Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory domain. Windows 7 users who
log on with their domain accounts can mount the correct shares exported
by the Linux boxes without having to supply any additional credentials.
All working perfectly!
However, I have a

samba 3.0 pdc and samba 2.2.8a password authentication failure
Hi list,
I have the problem, that a samba 2.2.8a server cannot validate the
password with a samba 3.0 pdc for a client request. A samba 2.2.1 works
fine. Let me explain the situation in more detail:
samba 3.0 pdc machine a
samba 2.2.8a server machine b (doesn't work)
samba 2.2.1 server machine c (works)
samba 2.2.8 client machine d
Machine b and c should authenticate the passwords
