Samba 3 still doesn't work - build errors (details)
Ok, this is simply getting annoying now.
First, with Slackware 9, I could build Samba 3, could join a domain, but nobody
in the domain could use the Samba machine, or browse the shares on it, or log
into it.
Just for grins, I decided to build a whole new machine and try with the latest
Slackware (9.1) to see if I could fare any better. No go....
I can't even get Samba 3 to build.

non-recursive remote listing breakage in 3.0.0pre1
It would appear something snuck in that breaks non-recursive remote
listings when talking to a non-3.0.0pre1 version of rsync. The symptom
itself is simple enough to see; rather than displaying member
directories/regular files/symlinks/etc as one would expect, only
non-directories (with the exception of '.') are listed.
Other tidbits.. some obvious, some maybe not:

Asterisk SlackBuilds for Slackware Linux
Hello List,
To whom it might concern:
I have been working in some SlackBuilds (script for making Slackware
Packages) for my personal use, but thought they might be useful for
someone else here.
Beside of the exceptional distributions used so far (CentOS, Debian,
Ubuntu, etc.), you might want to test Asterisk on a Slackware Linux box,
as it offers outstanding stability and flexibility as

Samba 3 doesn't compile - the saga continues...
Please see my post from 24 hours ago for the background on my efforts to get
Samba to run.
I received instructions to modify include/includes.h to change the #include
<compat.h> to #include <compat_ap.h>. Needless to say, this solved nothing
other than a bunch of harmless warnings. It also caused a different warning to
spew forth eternally from gcc, and more importantly, it

chan_h323 and menuselect dependencies problem
Hello List,
I've been trying to compile Asterisk with H.323 support and, after
correctly installing PTLib and H323plus (OpenH323), the Asterisk
configure script still doesn't detect the dependencies as installed.
I know they are correctly installed because after going into
"[asterisk-source-directory]/channels/h323" and issuing a 'make opt', it
correctly builds

Non-default build options
Hi! I am a current maintainer of the R slackbuild script (for Slackware
GNU/Linux distribution). I received requests from users to build R with
--enable-R-shlib and --enable-BLAS-shlib, so now I am trying to decide
whether to do so by default.
Is there a downside to building R with either option?

"make -j"
So, I'm building 3.0.23b for Slackware (since they don't have
it out yet[1]), and I've noticed these two lines in the script
that Slackware uses to build Samba 3.0.23 from source (which
I'm modifying to build 3.0.23b):
# -j options don't seem to work...
make
Anyone know why that comment might be there? Is it true that
Samba can't be built with "-j2" or

SegFault trying to open Steam
This is very possibly an easy fix, as I've had steam running on this particular box before through wine. However, I've been googling my ass off and looking through the suggested fixes on the appdb to no avail. Let's start with my setup:
OS: Slackware 13.37 (64 bit with working multilib) completely up to date
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT running the most recent linux 64 bit

can't connect to an Eaton Powerware 9155 over a usb-serial adapter
hello everyone,
I've been testing the NUT solution as opposed to the undocumented LanSafe
application to control my Eaton UPS.
I am on a Slackware 13.37 system with a 2.6.37.6 kernel. NUT version is
2.4.3 .
I installed the tarball by compiling it directly on my system (as a
slackbuild package).
The UPS is an Eaton Powerware 9155, but I don't know how to obtain the
manufacturing date. The
