APW: Print Driver not Storing for some printer types
Hi there.
I'm using samba 3.0.2 as a printserver. It's been working for ages and I
upgraded it the other day to see if it fixed this problem I've been
having trying to get printer drivers stored onto the server.
The mechanism for uploading drivers seems to be working fine but I've
recently got two new printers: an HP laserjet4200tn & and OKI c5100. No

Alternative way of installing Windows printer drivers on a Samba 3.0 server
Base: Red Hat RHAS3, PDC security = user
Samba 3.0.14a
Cups 1.1.17
Windows XP Pro
Epson C42UX (cheap inkjet) USB to the server
I was looking for an alternative to the immensely complicated Add
Printer Wizard procedure (APW) detailed in chapter 19.6 of the Samba
HOWTO guide. The following is a method that works for me, I don't
necessarily expect it to work for others, and I'd value any

Not able to upload printer drivers for WinXP/2k
Hi all,
I've just realized that using Windows APW (Wizard)it would be
possible to upload/install my usb-printer drivers shared on my linux
samba server (2.2.1a).
Tried doing so ,but came across lot of failure messages like
'Windows could not install driver ....' in the final step of the wizard
where it asks for drivers.

Setting up Print$ share
The environment is FC5, Samba V3.0.24-4. I'm trying to set up the print$
share.
From an XP SP2 client I navigate to the "Printers and Faxes" folder
showing from the Samba server. Following the directions from the howto,
I right click on one of the printers etc etc.
The driver does upload to the share, I can see it there on the server,
but when the APW wizard closes and returns

Adding printer port from Win2K client
Hello all,
I have been using the latest edition of "Using Samba" to set up a
Samba server in our local school. Everything has been working great
thus far. I've been asked to get printers going, so I thought I would
share the printers using Samba, and have the clients 'connect' to the
printers and get the drivers from the server. This works fine if I
install, say, a

Add Printer Wizard and Slowness
Hello all,
We have a Samba box set up as our primary campus print server, running
CUPS 1.1.19 and Samba 3.3.0. Our primary interface for adding printers
is the Add Printer Wizard. I am finding very slow response while
adding/modifying/deleting printers.
Making changes to any of the settings for a printer (default tray,
driver, etc) can take 20-40 seconds or will sometimes timeout, requiring

smb panic when adding printer with apw
Hi,
I'm using samba 3.3.15 as domain member in an w2k8 ad. We're using the
w2k3/xp add printer wizard to add a printer to the server. Since the
update from 3.2.15 to 3.3.15 the apw fails when clicking on the "finish"
button. At the same time a smb panic occurs and fills the smbd log with
the lines below.

gencache.tdb size and cache flush
Unfortunately I didn’t seem to have saved one of those big gencache.tdb files (we don’t currently see them). Or at least I can’t seem to find them now…
A while ago when we first discovered this I posted a message:

TDB database commands (TDB used by SAMBA)
Background: FREEBSD 11.2 - SAMBA 4.10.15
Hello everyone,
Good evening/afternoon/morning.
I am trying to "reuse" the TDB database to my portal, where I want to store
basically 3 information:
IP address , Name, TimeStamp - where IP would be the KEY and
"NAME,TIMESTAMP" would be the VALUE.
I am using the tdbtool to insert/store data successfully (like the example

Let's keep this on the samba list and not an interactive between you and
me...Also, I prefer bottom posting so my reply will be at the bottom.

our windows APW can't add printer driver to samba domain member
Hi,
I'm part of an organization managing Windows clients with a couple of
GNU/Linux servers.
We're having some trouble configuring our Samba 3 Debian Linux server.
It's just a domain member with authentification done with a Windows AD
Domain Controller, it's supposed to be our new print server.
The printers have already been set up for lprng.
Whenever trying to add a driver to

gencache.tdb growing and growing and...
Is it normal that the gencache.tdb should grow and grow “forever” and fill up with “RA/<hex>” posts?
I’ve been investigating why our Samba 4.7.3 servers (happened with older version 4 servers too) would use such insane amounts of memory on our FreeBSD 11.1 servers (we see smbd processes using hundreds of megabytes of RAM and up to 5GB virtual memory).
Anyway, one part that seems to use

APW issue and excessive Get-Printer-Attributes in CUPS access_log
Hello all,
I am trying to get to the bottom of a printing issue with
samba-3.0.25b-2.fc7 and cups-1.2.11-2.fc7. I wasn't sure whether to
start here or the CUPS list.
When left running for an hour or two, the CUPS process will often be
left using nearly 100% CPU. At this point, printing and add printer
wizard operations from Windows clients over Samba are unreliable.
