Printer driver upload from WindowsXP is broken since 3.0alpha22
Recently i've moved to samba 3.0 beta1 and noticed, that drivers for shared printers couldn't be uploaded from WindowsXP GUI any more. After copying files to \\smbserver\print$\W32X86 folders it says something like "Unable to install HP LaserJet 2100 PCL6, Windows2000 or XP, Intel driver. Operation could not be completed". It works OK on samba3.0alpha20, but doesn't work

printer suddenly unavailable
Hi there I have a pretty strange problem that pops up once in a while. Running samba 2.2.7a having installed a Samba machine as password server sharing user info via NIS I have a couple of printers running here at our place. Several of them are only accessible to a select group of people so I defined the concerned printers share as: [PrinterX] valid users = user1, user2, user3 .... ..... Things

Deleting Old Printer Drivers
Hi all, I am running samba 3.0.6 on Linux and am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to delete a print driver from the driver database? I have around 20 printers running off of this print server and occasionally we remove all of a certain type of printer. Also, for some reason, the drivers sometimes seem to become corrupt and it would be nice to be able to entirely remove a driver and

How to "recover" the printer drivers?
Samba 2.2.8a-1, RH8. ... So, I had to reinstall. Fortunately I had a back-up copy. I've installed everything and then went to back-up and brought back all the stuff from /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba and all /etc/cups and /etc/printcap*. Aparently samba is working corectly: All user/machine accounts are in place winbind OK... It's just that although I've restored the /home/printers

Printing to a network printer and installing PPD files
I hope I am not asking an obvious question. I have googled and looked in the obvious places, but I may have missed it. Anyway my question is two fold. How do I configure for a network printer in Wine and how to I install the printer specific ppd file? I am running 0.9.60, which I installed this week, on Mepis (Debian based with KDE and cups). I can print from PageMaker, but get a warning that

Hiding not defined Printer Share
Hi, I hope the title is understandable? We have several Samba file shares set up on AIX 4.3.3 boxes and there are only file shares, no printers are defined at all. The files shares work great. However, when users browse the Entire Network in Windows Explorer (from XP Pro clients) it shows a printers and faxes folder on each Server. As there are no printers on these servers is there a way to

samba upgrades deletes printer driver pointers
Hello, I'm running a samba and cups combo on a Centos 5.1 machine. It's acting as a lan print server. I used pointprint to upload drivers to the samba share so that windows clients could obtain them. This was working fine until i'm assuming the upgrade 5.0 to 5.1 on centos, when samba was upgraded. The driver paths are still there, drivers, shares, but the .tdb files are not.

Printer Admin Difficulties
I have been trying to setup a new print server on Fedora 12 based around samba-3.4.7-58.fc12.x86_64 and cups-1.4.2-28.fc12.x86_64. All looks good except for the ability for printer administrators to manage printers. Whether I specify users in a system group using the deprecated printer admin option, or specifically using net rpc rights and the SePrinterOperatorPrivilege, it does not matter.

Printer Rights Fail
Hello everyone, I upgraded my Samba server on my RHL 7.2 box from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7. Almost immediately afterwards, all of my admin users suddenly were unable to access the printers that were being shared by Samba. Any idea of what is wrong and how to fix it? The messages I'm getting are that I do not have enough rights. I am using a Windows 2000 Server PDC and a lot of Windows XP Pro, and

2 issues using SAMBA as a print server
I am using SAMBA/Lprng to do printer accounting for charge-back. There are two technical issues I have not been able to resolve. 1. When attempting to connect to the printer from a Windows box in the domain (the SAMBA server is simply a server that's a member of the domain, it is not the PDC) I get the message that the server does not have the appropriate driver and then it pops up a setup

Problems with CUPS and a networked epson printer
I have an Epson Stylus Color 880, connected to our network via an external ethernet printserver. I used to run lprng on the samba server (which is a domain controller), and the Windows clients had one minor problem accessing this printer via Samba (2.2.3a, then): Every time a client wanted to print, the Epson status monitor on the client would complain about communication problems with the

Win2K Printer "Access Denied" Error
Hello, I have a new RH 7.2 installation (kernel 2.4.7-10) with Samba 2.2.1a and I can't print from my Win2K box. I get an "Access denied: unable to connect" error from the printer entry in Windows. The logs don't seem to be helping me. Here's my smb.conf file: [global] workgroup = MYGROUP server string = Samba SMB Server interfaces = 192.168.1.1/24 127.0.0.1/24 hosts

AD 2008 R2 vs. samba 3.4.5
Hi there, I almot exlusively use samba for printing in a semi large scale (>2.000 windows hosts & >500 printers). I have been running 3.0.20 for a long time and was quite happy with it. Unfortunately my windows fellows have now updated to AD 2008 R2 and I experienced some immediate problems with encryptions types so I updated to 3.4.5 which is not really working for me. I see a

samba printer share
Hello, dear colleagues using SAMBA. Who could possibly tell me what I am missing in order to make my SAMBA printer share visible on the windows network( i.e., accessing it from a MS Windows machine's explorer, for example )? It is SAMBA 3.0.23 on Linux 2.4.33 machine(originally RedHat 7.3. based, but so much upgraded, even to GLIBC-2.3.6). here are the linked libraries:
