Trouble Printing from Win2K machine to Linux Box running RH8.0
Good evening:
I am running RedHat Linux 8.0 on a box that has my Epson Stylus Color
777 printer attached to it. The printer works fine from all
applications on my Linux box using a driver I picked up from TurboPrint.
I have downloaded and installed Samba 2.7.2 and am trying to print from
a Windows 2000 box to this Linux machine. The problem is that when I
print, the document seems to queue up

After 4.6 update: CUPS (via Samba): "'/printers/printers' no good!"
Since updating from 4.5 to 4.6 yesterday, I am getting a lot of CUPS
errors. The error.log file is filling up with these messages:
get_printer_attrs: resource name '/printers/printers' no good!
And the access.log seems to be being polled often too, even in the absence
of any print jobs submitted.
On my network the CUPS-handled printer is exported from Samba. Given that

configuration & cups
I seem to be having a great deal of trouble with cups and samba configuration.
cups seems to go on and off and it works and doesn't work.
I think I need some help on my samba configuration. Generally, it has
worked well on another machine, but my current setup seems a bit screwy.

College student printer for CentOS 5.4 x86_64?
Oldest son came back from college and wants a printer for his Dell
laptop. I built it with CentOS 5.3 x86_64 several months ago and will
upgrade it to 5.4
The Cannon printer he now has (bought with the laptop and Vista through
the university book store), doesn't seem to have linux drivers. I built
the machine with Vista and CentOS in dual-boot, so he could manage his
iTunes and use the

Samba/Cups Newbie question...
Hi,
I think that this is more a Samba query than a Cups one, as far as I can
tell from the
documentation anyway... I am running samba-2.2.5-1 and cups-1.1.16, I
have these
installed and working correctly... I have 50+ PC's (mixture of WinNT,
Win2k, WinXP
and Win9x/ME) printing to 6 queues on the server, 5 of these are RAW
queues printing
via lpd and ipp, and the other is a socket

Samba and CUPS Config Issue
We are trying to migrate from Samba/LPRng to Samba/CUPS and have hit some
snags. We're using the Samba box as a print server for our corporate
network, and have a variety of Windows versions on the network. The problem
we're having is with our Windows 95 clients. Win95 uses the printer comment
when it maps to the printer on the server. However, when we connect to a
printer, we no

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing
works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why
can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared
directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google
and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.

Add Printer Wizard
I'm having a bit of trouble getting a Samba printer set up.
What I have is a postscript capable HP laserjet. It actually has
IPP/HTTP and stuff on it. I need queueing to work, so my clients can't
print to it directly, so what I want to do is:
Get the printer set up on a central CUPs server: done. Printing quality
is perfect from Unix machines. Thank you postscript!

I will pay you $10US (via Paypal) out of my own pocket if you can solve this CUPS & Samba problem.
Seriously. I can't afford to be down much longer or I'm going to be in
serious trouble.
Running Redhat 7.2.
Here's the scoop:
Cups is installed and running.
Samba is installed and running and is sharing files properly to 100+ people.
I can print a test page from the Cups web-interface.

using windows-printer-drivers with wine ?
Hi !
I own a Canon S500 (4 Color Inkjet printer). Canon has ultimately poor
support for linux i'll never by a Canon-product again. Unfortunately i
bought this one before i abandoned my windows and now i'm stuck with
some average drivers of my Fedora linux (FC5). No nozzle
check/alignment, no printhead cleaning and bad color-setup/correction.
I tried turboprint.de drivers and are they much

Cups printing works but status is always Access Denied
I have a RedHat 9 installation running XFS.
Cups 1.1.17-13 is installed
I have compiled and installed Samba 2.2.8a and everything appears to be
working apart from a minor printing problem.
After I have installed a printer on my Win2K workstation I can print via
samba to the cups printer using the windows PCL print driver and it works
fine.
However the printer status is always 'Access denied,

How to share slash (root directory)
I am somewhat baffled by this and Googling for an answer has not given
me any joy. I do get a lot of hits from preachers saying don't do it but
either no answer was given or the answer refers to some distant past
version of Samba... So, before anyone jumps on me, I know what I am
wanting to do, and there is no risks involved. I am on a small SOHO
network running my own group of computers,

Guest printing issue using cups
Hi,
I am running Samba.3.0.20b_1 on a FC4 box kernel-2.6_13.1 box with a mixed set
of Win2k, XP clients.
I want to enable everyone to print to a local printer on the Linux box as a
guest. The XP machines can do this, but my Win2k machine insists that I log in
as a Samba user before it will enable me to print. That's OK when I am logged
into it (although annoying), as I know what to do,

Nope, doesn't work, and I need the drivers to be available and read from the
linux server. The PPD files do contain one which is specific to my printer
and has worked on another machine.

W9x print driver download problems with Samba 2.2.3a and CUPS
I've set up Samba and CUPS on our testing server here, and used
smbcupsadd to upload the Adobe PS drivers to the server as directed in
the HOWTO (The CUPS and Samba HOWTOs differ on this point, by the way -
the latter claims that PSMON.DLL is needed in addition to the eight
other files. I played it safe and had it upload that, too).
With the caveat that I first have to connect to each printer

Forum archive reveals email addresses, PLEASE STOP IT.
In trying to track down how spammers are finding my email address, it
has come to my attention that past postings are being archived at
http://forum.winehq.org/ which reveals mine and other posters email
address. I do not know who to address this to, but hopefully one of the

CUPS & client driver download
Hi everybody!
I've got a problem with downloading printerdrivers from my win2k box.
Successfully added printer with cupsaddsmb-tool (as root, after
failing as printer admin!!?!?!). The W32X86 and WIN40 directories
have been created as they should and also did the PPD files.
But if I connect to the printer from Win (as printer admin) I get the message that no
driver could be found.

[cups] /var/spool/samba or /var/spool/cups/tmp
Hello Family, (smd.conf file attached)
Having had great success with 2.2.2 and my Linux box and
Windows-2000 machines I switched to CUPS and now can't print again
having made some slight edits in my smb.conf file (attached) for the
change to CUPS.
[1] I have to reloaded all the Windows drivers again on the
Windows-2000 machines and still get the "Startdoc..." error.
