Samba 3.2.0 in Debian "lenny"
After several months of testing in the "experimental" branch of
Debian, samba 3.2.0 was uploaded to Debian "unstable" as of July 20th
2008 and entered the "testing" branch of the distribution as of August
1st.
As the "testing" branch is the future stable release of the Debian
distribution, this means that Samba 3.2.0 will be in the upcoming
release of

Samba 3.2, Samba 3.3 release planning
Hi,
i visited wiki.samba.org and read the "Release Planning for Samba 3.2"
information and the "Release Planning for Samba 3.3" information.
So my question is:
Is samba 3.2 development stopped and all concentration given to Samba
3.3 ? Because there isnt any further release note available for 3.2, but
instead there are some notes for 3.3 ?
Bye and thanks for your

More failover issues
In 1.6.0, when creating a MDT, you could specify multiple --mgsnode options
and it would failover between them. 1.6.3 only seems to take the last one
and --mgsnode=192.168.1.252 at o2ib:192.168.1.253 at o2ib doesn''t seem to failover
to the other node. Any ideas how to get around this?

Samba 3.5.2 packages for Debian lenny
(please note that this mail is crossposted to 3 lists. No need to CC
me to answers, I read the 3 of them...)
Some users (including me with my professionnal hat) want to use 3.5
versions of samba on production servers running Debian. Of course,
most of the time, these production servers are running Debian lenny
(the stable version of the distribution).
Debian lenny ships with samba 3.2.5, so

Changing owner/group on samba share
I've looked around and can't find the answer. We have a Samba file
server joined to our Active Directory and using ACLs. We are enforcing
quotas on this machine, but when specifying the home directory, the
directory is owned by the person who created it. Using Windows and going
into the security permissions, there doesn't seem to be a way to remove
the owning user/group. When you hit

Logon scripts not executed when NT4 trusted domain users log in a S3-controlled domain
I'm currently building a Samba3-based domain (DomA) that has a trust
relationship with an existing production NT4 domain (DomB).
DomA uses an LDAP backend. The LDAP server is local on the PDC and is
dedicated to such use. DomA runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian 6.0.
DomB is an old-timer: NT4 domain that's running for ages.
The trust relationship has been established: DomA trusts DomB.

Convert idmap_rid to idmap_hash?
I was looking through the change log of 3.3.0 and noticed that a new
idmap_hash was introduced that seems to play well with trusted domains. What
means are available to convert all my rids to this new hash so I can update
file permissions?

Microsoft OneNote 2007 painfully slow
We have a user trying to share a OneNote 2007 notebook and it takes minutes
to load a 20 KB notebook. I've opened a 500 KB Excel spreadsheet from the
same share and it took seconds. Has anyone else run into this problem? We
are running Samba 3.4.8 on Debian Squeeze.

ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind failed: Program lacks support for encryption type [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Hi all,
According to this bug report:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=566977
This particular error is actually a bug in the samba code.
Does anyone know if there are patches that fix this ?
Adding "allow_weak_crypto = true" to /etc/krb5.conf does not solve this for me :(
Has anyone got a working solution for this ?

reverse name resolving of winbind 3.4.x
Hi all,
I did upgrade from samba 3.0.28 to 3.4.1 on a domain member server. Now it seems there is a problem with reverse name
resolving of winbind.
The tools "ls" and "getfacl" shows UIDs instead of the usernames. When I run id "<username>" the username and the UID
are shown correctly. After using "id" the name is also listed fine in the output of

winbind + Active Directory + email
Ok, I can't seem to search for the right thing to get what I need. I'm
looking for a solution where if quota or some other mailing system needs to
send an email to an Active Directory user, that it uses the email address
listed in Active Directory for that user. We are connected to Active
Directory using winbind, on one system we are using pam_winbind, on another
we are not. Of course,

Ideas for distributed Samba servers
I'm trying to think about how to setup a Samba system and would like to pick
the brains of some experts. We are looking up put a large amount of storage
~75TB in a central data center. We have some remote (ok, not remote, but
across slower links, ok if you consider several hundred clients over 1Gb to
be slow) locations that we would like to set up samba servers that 'cache'
the file

Samba 3.2.0-pre3 packages in Debian - version of Samba in Debian lenny
The day after Karolin announced the release of 3.2.0-pre3, the Debian
packaging team was able to upload .deb packages for it in Debian
*experimental*.
To use them, you need to already use Debian testing or unstable, then
add this to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free
(replace "fr" by your favorite mirror country code)

samba4 on debian squeeze
I'm setting up a debian squeeze file server with NFS mounted home
directories and authentication via ldap. Now I want to give Windows users
access to those same home directories. I thought I'd try samba4. I figure I
have nothing to lose since this is a virtual machine and if I don't like the
results, I can just restore from a snapshot. Its not a production machine
yet.

authenticate Linux users to AD on Windows 2003R2
Hello,
I have enough details on how to have Linux users authenticate to a 2003r2
AD, but I need help getting their home dir's to automatically mount to a
windows share. Any details would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,

Active Directory DNS Registration
Hi,
I'm using a domain where the DNS is hosted by a couple of domain controllers
on the network, outside of my control. I do have ability to work with group
policy and active directory users and computers.
I was able to join a samba/linux computer to the domain using 'net rpc join
-S <IP of local DC/DNS server>'.
This caused an entry for the computer to show up in Active

2 questions: Linux filesystems that truly compare to NTFS / winbind causes Linux to lockup when connectivity to AD is lost
Hello samba gurus,
I have a couple of questions regarding Linux file systems, and their
ability to mimic NTFS, and the other question is regarding winbind and its
uncanny ability to virtually lock up a samba AD member server once
connectivity to the AD is lost. I apologize if anyone gets annoyed by this
question.
Environment:
I am using samba 3.2 with XFS+ACL support joined as a AD domain member

Bug#663473: xen-api: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review proposal
Package: xen-api
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Dear Debian maintainer,
Hello,
I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this
package.
I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates
review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf
templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you
prefer, to send a call for translations
