[SOLVED] RE: Samba and AD integration
Problem solved.
As long as I know it is related to the fact that I was using the same range of ID's (both GID and UID) in my smb.conf.
Change these values to different ranges and I am now being able to authenticate well.
Best regards,

Hello,
I am working with integrating various Linux distros as domain members
with an Active Directory Domain running on Windows Server 2008 R2 native.
The Domain admins have allowed des keys for backwards (nfs)
compatibility, but prefers the default enctypes supported in 2008 r2:

Problem running Windows Notepad under Wine
Gentlefolk,
I need to give someone the ability to create Windows-format text
documents, which I can then copy (via SMB) to a W2000 machine for
further processing. I've got the file-sharing up and running, and Wine
installed and running Windows Notepad OK, but I've hit a snag trying to
set it up to load Notepad automatically when the file-icon is clicked :-

A one line modification to fix contrib/solaris/postinstall.in
It's been discussed and key generation really should be put in the sshd
startup script. However, neither I nor anyone has had the time to modify
the solaris scripts to do so. I still would like to see a full rewrite
of solaris/ without all the hard coded crap.

Resolutions and bits per pixel.
Greetings Gentlefolk,
It's a long time since I 'cvs updated' my wine sources. I
did that last night, and after rebuilding I was left with
three questions.
My experience was that to run an 8-bit windoze app, I
had to run wine under an X server that was running in
8bpp. This time, I forgot to switch to an 8-bit X, and to
my amazement, the app came up under 16 bpp. Way
Cool!

Can't get idmap connected to AD unix attribs
Hi,
I'm trying to get an Ubuntu 12.04 system's Samba (3.6.3) and Winbind to map userids and groups to the unix attributes in an AD 2008 server. I can see that when I perform an ldapsearch, I'm able to read the attributes, and for one of my accounts, the id should be 1001. However, when I run 'wbinfo -i <username>', I get back something like 920.
At one point, I was

net ads user info .vs. wbinfo -g ?
The group names from these two commands display differently. For example:
$ net ads user info my-name -U my-name

$ wbinfo -g
.
.
systemsengineeringeu.write
Why is this different?

Samba question
All,
I'm trying to find out if you can limit Samba to only pull user accounts from a particular Active Directory OU. My AD has over 200K contacts entries for the global address list so I would like samba to only query the location with the valid user accounts. I'm running samba 3.0.1.
Thanks for any help/suggestions you can provide,

Winbind on Solaris
Hi,
Just want to clarify and confirm with everyone,
If I want my Solaris Samba box to join an AD domain via winbind, I'd need neither krb5.conf nor krb5.keytab, but instead only file I'd need is smb.conf with a correct configuration, correct?
Thanks in advance.

ADS 2008 configuration
Hi,
I am Inderjit, and have some issues with configuration of samba with ADS 2008.
I am able to connect to ADS 2008, but command "getent group" doesn't show always the output with ADS groups. We have more that 25000 users and domain controller is not located at same location.
Could you please give me a hints or suggestions, what can be changed to solve this issue.

id mapping
Hi,
Today I'm trying to debug a problem on samba 3.5.4 where a domain
member server is having trouble mapping UIDs to SIDs. I must admit I
never really looked at this before as everything seemed to "just work".
Today I discovered that idmap backend on the PDC and the member server
were both defaulted to tdb. This means they have independent views of
UID to SID mappings I guess.

What if my Windows AD Domain Controller Goes Down?
There are three DCs in my Windows 2003 AD domain, but I have noticed
that only one of them is referenced in my krb.conf and krb5.conf. Should
there be a reference to one or two of the other domain controllers? If
the DC goes down, how will my Samba/Winbind servers authenticate?

Samba and Active Directory 2008
I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting samba working with a

shell, and UID on the Unix attributes tab. My samba server is joined to the

Samba authenticating against Windows Active Directory
Hello all,
I have a question regarding the integration between Samba and the Active
Directory (Windows 2008).
Current setup:
1. We have been using a Samba server to offer shared folder to the user in
my institution.
2. The users have any kind of operational system on their machines, and
they don't log in any domain server
3. The users simply map their shares at the Samba server, using their

on server 1, when is do: *id user1*

the same user has different id.
This is actual for groups as well i.e different id's.
*smb.conf*s are identical
