Add permission? (was How to create a write-only share?)
Need your help! I'm very confised and tired, tried a lot of variants
but still at the start, even lost all understanding how the
permissions and masks works.
Please write me a config for the following case:
There is a directory:
'/home/shared/door', owned by 'michael:office'
shared via samba as '[door]'
How can I configure the FS and samba to let 'michael'

show how much bytes transfered per rsynced file?
We use rsync a lot to backup various stuff over bigger distances and its my project to look deeper into this backups to optimize backup.
While its easy to make rsync print the size of the files it is transferring I didnt figure out how to determine how much bytes are actually transferred per file which is even more interesting.
If I sync a whole data-structure with 100.000 files lets assume 1000

domain power users
Hello:
I have an nt domain comprised of a samba/openldap pdc with windows xp sp2
clients.
*samba 3.0.28a-1
slapd 2.4.9-0
smbldap-tools 0.9.4-1
Ubuntu 8.04 Server LTS
Windows Xp SP2

I have two problems which I think are related.
- using "gpresult" from an xp client on the domain, the user is not shown as

status of undelete
Months ago there was a thread here about the implementation of a
simple undelete-function (i.e: dont delete files, but move them to a
folder).
Is this this still a relevant idea or has this feature low priority ?
thanx,
peter
ps: anyone knows about a 3rd-party software (propably on nt-side) that
implements such a feature ?

Debian client/workstation pam_mount
I have some (for testing) Debian based client/workstation connected to my
AD. Signing to the AD works as a domain/user should. These clients can, via
Nautilus file manager, access shares on the file server manually that
the *signed
in domain user* is permitted to "see". I would prefer to connect these
files and the domain user home directory automatically at sign in without

Rsync between 2 datacenters not working
You could try using an automounter, like autofs, in combination with
sshfs. It'll be slower, possibly a lot slower, but it should be more
reliable over an unreliable connection.
I've been using:
remote -fstype=fuse,allow_other,nodev,noatime,reconnect,ServerAliveInterval=15,ServerAliveCountMax=40,uid=0,gid=0,ro,nodev,noatime
:sshfs\#root at remote.host.com\:/

information about XP <-> samba ?
I'm thinking about upgrading our NT4-clients to XP in the near future
and I want to know how well XP is supported by SAMBA in the recent
samba-versions.
I found many single statements in usenet, but I wonder if there is a
kind of XP-FAQ out there. (The one at samba-page is very outdated)
Especially I need to know how well XP integrates in a existing
NT4-domain (samba as PDC).
Then I need

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a
I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I
faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even
dont know if it can be a samba-problem.
When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice
versa I get bad performance:
1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second
But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

Samba and ldap groups

hosts allow
So far, so good with 1.9.18p1 on HPUX 10.20 (kudos to the Samba team!).
However, I've got a question....
I'd like to be able to restrict access to some of our services, and can
certainly do so with the "hosts allow = " entry in smb.conf - it does
exactly what I want. But... I plan on bringing Samba up on a few campus
hosts, some of which have more extensive listings of PCs I

sshfs -o rellinks (module option) rejected by fuse
New to sshfs and new to this mailing list so please guide me if required.
Is this a bug? When sshfs is given option -o rellinks, it responds with
fuse: unknown option `rellinks'
According to my understanding of the sshfs man page and --help output
this option a) is valid and b) should be passed to the module, not to fuse.

SSHFS version 2.4

Daylight saving
Hello there,
I have a samba PDC 3.0.0 running ok, but I had turned on the option "Time
Server" in smb.conf, to synchronize the workstations time with server. But
the workstations synchronize 1 hour less than it is. I think that the
workstations isn?t considering the daylight saving time.
I?m using the command: net time \\server /set /yes
Thank?s,

Some users can't log in -- server shows username as " nobody"
Hi
I actually had this same problem when running up samba originally.
Check that the user has a valid unix acount and that you have added that to
the folder share/valid users section.

how does autofs deal with stuck NFS mounts and suspending to RAM?
Hi,
after trying sshfs to mount a remote file system on a server with the result
that sshfs will sooner or later get stuck and require a reboot of the client,
I'm fed up with it and am looking for alternatives.
So next I would like to use NFS over a VPN connection instead. To minimize
the instances of the NFS mount getting stuck, it might be helpful to use
autofs.
What happens when the

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi,
I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using
folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller.
If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret.
There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received
feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these
methods.
I would like to include in the new book

Configured AD backend but getting different uid and gid
Hi,
Thank you for replying. User home directory creation is working without the
need to edit /etc/pam.d/common-session
The logon script I mentioned here is a in-house script to handle directory
mounting for file server access, and create shortcut on the account desktop
for different logins.
On my Linux machines, currently all is done manually by local user account
creation and by adding the

films on Desktops and roaming profiles
Hi,
I'd like to ask you what do you limit Desktops syncing in case users
put large files on them, e.g. films.
Downloading / uploading such large files can generate lots of
unnecessary traffic. Is there any kind of filtering possible ?
Other solutions ?
Cheers,

cannot get fuse-ssh to operate from a batch script - but does from cmd line
Hi there
I am wanting to call sshfs (auth via DSA keys) via a rsync pre-xfer bash
script, and cannot get something right. If I run it from the cmdline line:
env - sshfs usern@server:/share /dir/path -o -o IdentityFile=/tmp/id_dsa
it mounts it just fine. (note the "env -" - I specifically tested with
no environment to try to make the two situations identical). If I put
that sole line
