First attempt file access denied subsequent file accesses granted
Hi List, We?re running 3.0.28.el4.9 on CentOS 4.7 in a production environment with one minor annoyance. This is a very inconsistent behavior ,frequent enough top be annoying ,yet unpredictable enough to warrant this email. Our Samba server is serving up a wide variety of files but in this instance in particular are Visual Fox Pro tables (*.dbf). When a user wishes to open a Fox Pro

SQL 2000 Failed Authentication
I am runnign a Samba 3.0.1 PDC, serving a domain named FEEDBACK. Joined to this domain we have about 30 workstations and 2 Windows 2000 Servers. These servers run MS SQL Server 2000. SQL Server is using Windows authentication. This allows users/applications on our LAN to connect to the server using Windows authentication. This process has been "flakey" for the last month, with

Passwords expiring on 2.2.8a
We have our 2.2.8a network functioning, well with the standard smbpasswd backend. Lately people have started getting messages about their password expiring. I haven't seen anyplace in this version that a person can enforce password aging. One person has changed their password and then it stopped, I believe that if I change their (samba) password on the server it stops as well.

Machine accounts keep expiring
Hi, I've a problem with samba and ldap but it's the first time that samba works so bad. I made a network with samba and a few of windows client. Since four months (the networks was made on january) and every 10/12 days the workstations go out from the domain. The user can't log, and when i try logging with administrator It ask me to change him password. So I must unjoin the

winbind passwords expiring
With samba-3.0.23d and an NT4 PDC, passwords expire for no obvious reason when using winbind for system services such as ssh(sftp). The users have no problem when accessing the Samba shares or logging onto the domain locally, but periodically windbind will expire their passwords when attempting to use such 'nix services. Any clues? Thanks, Chris

passwords expiring
My passwords have expired again in my LDAP/Samba setup. I have been reading in the Samba How-To and just want to make sure this is what I need to do before I try it. If I want to have my passwords expire in the year 2015, do I need to do the following to all of my users? pdbedit --pwd-must-change-time="2015-01-01" --time-format="%Y-%m-%d" username Using the ldap-usermod

Passwords expiring
I have a Samba 3 server setup using LDAP for the backend. I keep getting a message that the passwords will expire. This happened about a month ago and I did not worry about it, because my XP machines kept telling me this last year, but they never expired. I figured it was something to do with XP and not my Samba server. This year though, with my new server, they did expire and I had to

Windows 7 machine trust accounts expiring
I think I have narrowed this down even further. I have been working through getting rid of error messages in the logs, and I have updated Samba to 3.4.3. This might have fixed the issue, and I won't know for some time, but I can still see the following error appearing in the logs, which seems to line up with the core issue of machine trust accounts expiring.

BDC, documentation, Machine Accounts Keep Expiring
Hello! I want to create BDC with smbpasswd backend, just because I run ldap master on the same machine as PDC and I don't think that using ldap backend will be far better for me. Only thing I don't understand: I read in howto: <quote> Machine Accounts Keep Expiring This problem will occur when the passdb (SAM) files are copied from a central server but the local Backup

[fdo] [PROPOSAL] Expiring accounts
(sent to freedesktop@ and sitewranglers@, please keep the discussion on freedesktop@) Hi all, currently we have a bit more than 700 user accounts on freedesktop.org. I suspect some of those are no longer active, but we currently have no way of detecting this. Some other large projects like Debian and Fedora try to detect activity through SSH logins, mailing list activity, etc. Ubuntu requires

Windows 7 machine trust accounts expiring
There was an earlier thread about failing trust relationships between Windows 7 and Samba. Since we occasionally experience the same problem with Win 7 clients against a Samba 3.5.4 server, I investigated this a bit further. I think it happens when - the time to change the machine password has arrived - the Win 7 machine is up, but no one is logged on (login box is shown on the screen). To

Draw plot.table axis on right hand side
With an ordinary plot, to customise the axis it is possible to suppress drawing the axis and then call Axis. I have been trying to change the location of the y-axis on a plot.table plot to the right hand side, but cannot even work out how to suppress drawing the labels. Here is a toy example of the sort of plot I am working with. Any suggestions as to how to have the axis on the right hand side

Migrating (vampire) from NT4 to samba 3.5.7
Hi, I'm trying to prepare migration from NT4 server to samba with ldap backend. Using following packages: samba3.i386 3.5.7-43.el5 samba3-cifsmount.i386 3.5.7-43.el5 samba3-client.i386 3.5.7-43.el5 samba3-doc.i386 3.5.7-43.el5

cannot login from some machines after upgrading from 2 to 3
Hi. I've got a strange issue here. Some time ago (in march ;) I upgraded my FreeBSD-6.0 Samba 2.2 to 3.0 (currently 3.0.24). After creating groupmaps and doing all the other upgrade tasks, everything seemed to be alright. However, it was not possible to login from some machines (getting error for the wrong password). After disjoining and rejoining domain with these machines, it was possible

Renamed PDC, now user profiles don't work
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I just changed the NetBIOS name of my PDC (*not* the name of the domain) and now the security properties of the domain user profile on my Win2kSP4 workstation shows "S-1-5-21-..." as the user rather than the username. Also, System Properties|User Profiles shows that the account has been switched to a local profile and has been *deleted.*
