Samba + ACLs: Can’t add group write permissions
Hi there,
I?ve been trying to get my head around a problem I have with Samba.
I?ve set up Samba 3.6.13 on a Raspberry Pi with Arch Linux ARM on it and
let it serve a couple of folders from an attached external ext4 drive
mounted to /srv/cifs (of course with the "acl" option enabled).
I?ve been trying to create a share that is read-writable for all
members of a particular UNIX user

Change smbpasswd in a cron job
Hi list
For a project we are trying to change the samba password automatically
in a cron job. Since smbpasswd doesn't allow the password to be entered
otherwise than though the console (user input). We found a solution to
the input part though expect. But as thing go expect doesn't work in a
cron job since it has no tty.
Is there anyone who can point us the right way to a solution.

Samba4: s3fs sticky bit file ownership problem
Hi
I want all files created in a share to be group owned by a group called
staff. To do this I have a share called reports which is chmod g+s staff:
drwxrws---+ 9 root staff 4096 Jun 18 11:15 reports
If I create a file from Linux, the sticky bit works:
-rw-rw----+ 1 steve2 staff 0 Jun 18 10:57 stevelinux.txt
If I create it under windows, it doesn't:
-rwxrwx---+ 1 steve2 Domain

Samba4 and idmap_ad
Hello everyone,
I have a - maybe only cosmetical - problem. I am currently configuring two SLES servers running Samba4 as member servers in a Windows2008/2012-AD. (Yeah, poor us!) Everything went fine: installing the samba packages, getting Kerberos running, and joining the AD. But when I use id or wbinfo now to get user information I get lots of groups which cannot be mapped a GID and thus are

Thunderbird 24.0 for Windows seems to ignore Samba4.0.9 permissions settings
Hi,
I have a CentOS 6.4 fileserver running SerNet Samba 4.0.9 with these
global settings (not overridden):
read only = No
force create mode = 0777
force directory mode = 0777
inherit acls = yes
inherit owner = yes
inherit permissions = yes
On a Windows client, I have Thunderbird 24.0 storing its profile and

Several questions about winbind[d]
@Andrew: I expect these lines came from RDP issue workaround which should
be happening with previous Samba version. I removed all these lines as now,
with 4.2.2 Samba version RDP and RSAT are working well without them.
I removed also each and every idmap lines, commented most of winbind lines
too and now my smb.conf is:

Webalizer displays wrong year
I just run webalizer manually on an Apache log, like I have done many times
before. Some new statistics were created, but for "August 2006" instead of
"August 2008". I cannot figure why!
Because of my mistake, the webalizer statistics for this site have not been
updated since February. Now I tried to update them for the first time - with
the results I described above.

Samba 4.1 gentent, ls, no display domain user name on Primary ACDC but wbinfo -u yes
Hello friends:
I hope you can help me with this I'm struggling a year ago
After breaking my head migrating a server with Samba Samba 2.1 to 4.1 all stay perfect and functional.
All files are in this domain controller for now, and then be moved to a domain member, "the file server".
I configure the server as ADDC Samba 4.1 and up here all went well, the shares, the users, winbind,

Are some Group Policies broken?
Not quite 4 years ago I replaced our office SBS 2008 server with Samba4. I added Group
Policies one of which was for Redirected Folders. I created a new GPO, "HPRS Groups" and did

PDC, NIS and password sync.
Hi.
I have for a while been trying to get my samba 2.2.1a PDC to be a NIS master
and still maintain the password sync feature, without any luck.
Now I made something that seems to work - but I would like to get your input
to see if what I do is ok or it is something I should'nt do.
1: Samba uses passwd to sync the password (not yppasswd)
2: cron runs make in /var/yp every 15 minutes to

But, when I ran your samba-check-set-sysvol.sh script it told me to set EVERYONE: READ. See

Weird permission problem
Hi,
When I try to do anything on my samba system a connection is made to IPC$, but this is
mapped to a directory /root/tmp. This seems odd. To make matters worse ordinary users
cannot access this directory, so the only user who can access the IPC$ share (ie, do
anything at all) is the root user.
What have I don wrong. I cannot find any reference to IPC$ being linked to a directory

Samba 3.0.4 acl problem
Hi list
I have a strange problem with my Samba 3.04 server running on redhat 9
with 2.4.24 kernel (with acl patch from acl.bestbits.at applied to it).
Acls are working fine on my system, and my server is working fine as a
Samba PDC (or so it seems).
I can view and modify any permissions on the existing files that are
being shared. If setfacl has been used to grant additional users

Bizarre - How did windows user setfacl for a file??
Listmates,
In 8 years, since 2.02 (I think), I have never seen this behavior out of
samba. I run a stand-alone server with WinXP clients. Somehow a legal assistant
created (not intentionally mind you) files and directories with ACL attributes set:
