NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ok.. Just for the record, I STAND CORRECTED! The problem does
appear to be NT.. The thing that irritated me was that nobody was
interested in giving any backup data! Everyone just wanted to blindly
admit that it must be NT. Ok.. Enuf bitching.. On to the better stuff...
Anyway, David Mansfield and I are trying to narrow down the machine
configurations where this happens.. Currently, we've

copying large files over NFS locks up machine on -testing from Thursday
I''ve locked up my dom0 a couple of times this morning copying a 3GB
file from local disk to an NFS mount(neither xend nor guests running).
I don''t encounter this problem on the stock CentOS 4 kernel. The
machine is a PowerEdge 2850 with 2 e1000 cards - the one in use is
connected to a PowerConnect 2216 10/100 switch and has negotiated
100Mbit. I''ll check if the stock

(Repost to list) Copying large files xp pro -> Samba very slow
I previously posted this to the linux.samba mailing list. I'm not sure
that was the right place, so here it is again. Apologies if you've already
seen it.
Hi,
I would really appreciate any hep with a big problm I'm having with XP
(Pro / SP1 ) transferring to a samba share.
The transfer starts off OK, using about 66% of my 100Mbs network.
Then, after about 10-15 seconds, it drops off

create very large file system
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP3
I've tried to create a large 5TB file system using both reiserfs and ext3 and both have failed.
I end up with only a 1.5TB file system. Does anyone know why this doesn't work, what to do to fix it?
Others have suggested that only XFS or JFS will work. Is this so?
Thanks,

Need help with an odd issue I am experiencing
I have a server with dual nic's running centos 5.2 1 nic connects to the
cable modem, which has 15m d and 2m up, but speed tests barely come back
at 5mb down including road runner's internal speed test. I hook up my
laptop to the same modem, same port, using the same cable and I get 17mb
down. I have ruled out iptables, nics (because same result on both
nics), cables, cable modem(with

IAX2 Softphone Quality & Network Cards
We are in the process of an Asterisk call center deployment using IAX2
G711 ulaw softphones. Outbound sound quality is terrible.
This week we rebuilt the entire LAN with Cisco 2950-EI switches and have
employed QoS on the switches and router. Still sounds terrible.
What we are now finding is that the network card in the PC may be the
key to the problem. A Dell Optiplex P4 2.4GHz 512MB

NT can't print while Win 95 can?
Hello all,
I have a printing problem with NT, Samba 1.9.18p8 and Debian Linux
1.3 (Kernel 2.0.32). I defined a printer share, which works fine
with Win95, but it does not print with NT 4.0 SP3 and NT 3.51. After
installing the "EnablePlainTextPassword" registry entry NT4.0 is
able to browse, connect and use a file system share on the
printserver, but it can not print to the same

How can I set NIC duplex before installation?
Hello,
I have installed CentOS 5 onto a server this afternoon using NFS. The
NFS 'server' has a 100Mb/full-duplex interface, the server I installed
CentOS on to has 4 x 100Mb interfaces. However, the installation was
painfully slow to start with, and by using ctrl-alt-f2/f4/f5 I could see
that contact with the NFS server was intermitently failing. Soon after
some of the packages had

Problem copying large file from Win2K box to Samba share on Linux box
I've got an aggravating problem as described in the subject line above.
I have a small home network with a Linux box running Samba and acting as both
local and domain master browser and WINS server. Also on the network are a
desktop PC (Dell 1.4 GHz P4) running Windows 2000 Professional and a laptop
running Windows XP Professional.
The problem occurs when I try to copy a file over 1 MB

Slow file copying from Server to clients
Hi,
I have posted this issue once but have not yet had a reply to it. Not sure
maybe no one has an answer but I will try again.
I have a linux box running SuSE 8.2 with samba 2.2.7-a58. Everything works
well except when clients workstations copy files to their workstations, in
particular my client running Mac OS X. Mac OS X supports the SMB protocol. I
had a look at the logs but could not see

Sftp slow on both our centos installs
The short version.
Copying over SFTP to our centos boxes maxes out at 2MB a sec.
The Question:
Is there some sort of speed limitation somewhere in the ssh/sftp daemon?
Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening?
The long version
We have centos 4.6 installed on 2 different machines, different
hardware, different nics. Even on 2 different subnets.
I've tried different switches,

5,000 concurrent calls system rollout question
Hi,
we are currently considering different options for rolling out a large scale IP PBX to handle around 3,000 + concurrent calls.
Can this be done with Asterisk? Has it been done before?
I really would like an input on this.
Thanks!

OT: VoIP over bonded link
I have to provision several dozen * users to a seperate building on our
campus in the same subnet. Ordinarily, I'd just run a gigabit cat6 cable to
another switch if it doesn't violate the 100 metre rule, but this building
is several hundred metres away from my backbone. My only option for cabling
to the remote building is copper. My plan is to provision them with a Linux
bridge with 4

That's pretty high! Seems you're using a switch.
I just get 3,5 MB/s in both directions using 905b NIC's and a hub,
+-100kb, usually reading is slightly higher than writing.
