Trouble with Winbind and domain group membership
Summary of problem: members of Active Directory groups cannot access Samba shares that their group membership should allow. I recently joined our Linux servers to our Windows 2003 domain using Samba/Winbind. The research and implementation were time-consuming, but the results made it all worthwhile. Unfortunately I am running into a problem relating to group membership on the domain as it

Winbind separator = +
I have read many opinions on what character to use for the winbind separator. Many people urge changing the default to '+'. According to testparm: 'winbind separator = +' might cause problems with group membership. The man page for smb.conf says this on the subject: "Please note that setting [winbind separator] to + causes problems with group membership at least

Winbind not getting new membership for AD users
Happy Holidays for those of you celebrating holidays this time of year :-) I am having difficulty with a newly joined Samba server, version 3.0.28-1 on CENT OS 5.1. Winbind doesn't seem to be picking up changes to group membership. For instance, the example commands below show a discrepancy between wbinfo and getent group (dom\user1 does, in fact, belong to dom\group, aka 10016) #

Home Directories on the fly?
Hello all, I have a functional samba/windind file server (SLES 10) thats a member server of an Active Directory domain. I'm able to successfully resolve user and group accounts from AD. The problem I'm having is samba isn't creating home directories automatically when I try to map to a AD user share from Win XP. What I am able to do is, when I ssh into the machine with an AD user,

Preemptive answer on idmap error
I recently had a problem with Winbind where new Active Directory user accounts could not access the list of shares on a particular Samba server. "wbinfo -u" showed that the users did exist, but they were not appearing in "getent passwd" results. "/var/log/samba/winbind.log" showed the following error (with Winbind error logging set to either 2 or 3): idmap Fatal

CDR_Oracle anybody?
Hi; I've been playing around with various report writers on the cdr_mysql table and I'm getting rather irritated. I started a thread a couple weeks ago on "Billing Fun" and got a lot of good responses on how to get an up-to-date copy of the NDA/NXX database, which I managed to retrieve and bring into MySQL in a script from the various pieces of code people posted... very nice.

Samba 3.0 alpha20-2 and Win2k SP3
Is there anyone on the list that has been able to get Win2k SP3 working with the 3.0 alpha version? I'm able to join but I can NOT log in. I can see the machine account listed in pass.tdb (using pdbedit -l) and it is also in passwd & shadow. I HAVE ALSO APPLIED THE SIGN OR SEAL PATCH. The message I get is: "The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's

upgrade 2.2.8a -> 3.0 Debian DOS long filename problem
Hi, I tried to upgrade from Samba 2.2.8a to 3.0. It worked generally speaking fine and speed went up tremendously, BUT since then the DOS conversion of long file names is freaking me out. Using long file names produced a readable short version plus ~1 oder ~x. where x stands for a number. now long file names produce some cryptic 8 letter name plus extension. listing in a DOS box

Seemingly bizarre behavior in R CMD check
Maybe someone can help shed some light on an odd and repeatedly irritating error I noticed when running the check Perl script on my R 1.3 project. In following it line by line, I traced my problem down to the code/documentation matching within check, the most recent version of which seems to verify proper .Rd formatting by means of R's codoc and undoc functions. Under R --vanilla, those two

I *know* there has been a lot going on, and congratulations on getting CentOS 8 out! But(!), I don't see any updates to CO 7.7.1908 in the "updates" directory on the mirrors I typically use. [Bug 3099] Please parallelize filesystem scan
Sounds to me like maintaining the metadata cache is important - and tuning the filesystem to do so would be more beneficial than caching writes, especially with a backup target where a write already written will likely never be read again (and isnt a big deal if it is since so few files are changed compared to the total # of inodes to scan). Your report of the minutes for the re-sync shows the

Printing to Unix Printers w/ Samba
Hello All: I have sucessfully gotten Samba running with NT 4.0 SP3 across 2 NT workstations an a Sun Ultra running Solaris 2.6. We can share files, no problem. We have the latest version of Samba 1.9.18p4. Printing: problem. We've tried a bunch of things: NT sees the printer, it can even watch it spool when a unix-side user prints to it. But, if we try to print from NT, printing to the

NEWsamBIE
I am implementing the latest version of Samba on HP-UX 11.0. The build and install went without obvious errors or problems. I have a Win95 (old version, no service packs loaded), 2 Win98, and 1 WinNT 4 SP4 machines which I am testing with. The 95 machine works fine. The 98 machine's can see the samba server but are denied access and the NT machine can't even see the server and reports

Synchronous scrub?
Say I''m firing off an at(1) or cron(1) job to do scrubs, and say I want to scrub two pools sequentially because they share one device. The first pool, BTW, is a mirror comprising of a smaller disk and a subset of a larger disk. The other pool is the remainder of the larger disk. I see no documentation mentioning how to scrub, then wait-until-completed. I''m happy to be pointed

Triple- or Quad-display single-card graphics solutions
So, after some discussion of our new control workstations, we are iterating in on a solution; we are looking at a 1U short-depth SuperMicro SuperServer 5017R-MF with a graphics card in the PCI-Ex16 expansion slot. However, the display requirements have increased to 3 or more monitors for future expansion, so I was wondering whether anyone had any experience with triple- or quad-display single card

Linking 2 columns in 2 databases and applying a function
Hi all, I have two datasets, one that represents a long-term time series and one that represents summary data for the time series. It looks something like this: x<-data.frame(Year=c(2001,2001,2001,2001,2001,2001,2002,2002,2002,2002,2002,2002), Month=c(1,1,1,2,2,2),Q=c(5,5,5,6,6,6,3,3,3,4,4,5)) y<-data.frame(Year=c(2001,2001,2002,2002),Month=c(1,2,1,2),Threshold_Q=c(5,5,4,4)) What I'd
