OpenLDAP integration
I've followed the OpenLDAP + SAMBA Domain Controller tutorial step-by-step: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=640760 And after long hours, and enless googling, I've yet to find a solution. LDAP works great SAMBA works great. But the intergration between them don't work. Here is the samba log: root:/etc# tail /var/log/samba/log.smbd smbd version 3.0.28a started. Copyright

Samba and Win98
I have a friend that had a samba server go down. They switched to another server and are having problems with people logging into it from Windows 98. If the same user logs in from WinXp then everything works otherwise they get an error. He also said that the smb.conf files were the same on both servers. >From the errors it almost looks like some sort of permission problem, but since it logs

Need help getting roaming profiles to work
Hi! First, let me apologize for the length of this message. I wanted to include as much relevant info as I could and it got a bit lengthy. For reasons that I won't bother to detail here, I ended up volunteering to upgrade the server at my kids school. It's a small private school with an all-volunteer tech support staff (me!). We currently have about 40 computers serving about 150 people.

How can I remove these log entries 'Failed to create Users' and 'Failed to create Administrators'
Hi, I have a very small setup, one XP/clinet and one Vista/client and a Ubuntu/samba server. I like to cleanup my log.smbd but I can't figure out how! I have everything up and running and I can access the share's from the XP client. I googled around and it seems that I should bind some Windows group/user against Unix group/users with something like 'net groupmap add rid=2512

Strange Samba permissions
Hi, I am really stuggeling with Samba, searched forums and checked tutorials, so far with no success. So you are my last resort and probably the first place I should have checked, but I am completly new to mail groups, so please be patient with me. Users can log in to the Samba PDC domain successfully and get the login script executed just fine. But: 1.) If user A is creating a file then user

confusing samba log entries
Hello, I'm having some trouble using Samba to backup my PC with Lenovo's Rescue and Restore. In the course of analysing potential causes of the problem, I noticed in my Samba server's log (pertaining to my client PC) several "can't do this" or "can't do that" messages. Specifically, here are the messages that appear constantly: [2009/01/12 11:05:52, 0]

Access denied to shares samba 3
Hi, I have samba-3.0.23d-1tr on a trustix 3.0 system. This samba was joined to a win 2k3 domain and it works perfect for lot of months. Now I can access only to tmp share, and samba server is very slow to expose all shares. If I launch wbinfo -u or wbinfo -g, I still see the users/group from win2k3 server, but in the log of my winxp client (whose name is Euro15), I see: [2006/12/27 11:52:31, 2]

Accessing member server prompts for credentials
Hi, I'm trying to join a server as an AD member but it isn't working. I do: kinit ADMINISTRATOR@DOMAIN1.CO.UK which prompts for the password and displays nothing else. Then I do: net ads join -U Administrator%XXXXX which returns: Using short domain name -- DOMAIN1 Joined 'SERVER1' to realm 'DOMAIN1.CO.UK' So all looks OK, but when I try to browse the shares on

LDAP configuration problems. How to debug?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I'm trying to combine my LDAP Server (workin Unix authentication) with SAMBA on an Ubuntu Hardy system. For now I have a smb.conf and followed the steps in http://download.gna.org/smbldap-tools/docs/samba-ldap-howto/. I had to do some modifications beacause my LDAP DIT is not empty. So I had to adapt the changes smbldap-populate would to

samba fails to start.
After a hiccup or two with Samba not wanting to restart, I opted to look for a pid/lock file and found none. Tried to correct by restarting the server and had no success with samba restarting. There are no errors in smbd.log I did apt-get upgrade. No help I did apt-get remove samba, samba and swat went away. I did note that the XXXX pid was not found during install when samba was to be killed.

Lots of "Failed to create" error messages after upgrading to 2.0.25c
Hello, I recently upgraded from Samba 3.0.22 to 3.0.25c on Solaris, and after doing so I noticed a sudden proliferation of new error messages in the Samba log, such as: [2007/08/27 15:36:03, 2] smbd/sesssetup.c:setup_new_vc_session(1200) setup_new_vc_session: New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would close all old resources. samba/ldap setup stopped working (might be a challenge)
Hi, two days ago my functioning samba/ldap server stopped working. I *think* the problem is somehow related to the fact i transfered everything to a new server, but that was two months ago. Trouble started yesterday morning after a power-outage. Configuration: ubuntu 8.04, with a standard samba, ldap and smbldap-tools installed via apt-get. When users tried to login, they got a message "a

installing Samba as non-root user at work - please help.
Hi, I've recently started at a new company that doesn't have a system in place to map my Linux home directory within Windows. I have my own Linux box (a recent Redhat install), and my own Windows XP PC. I will get no help from a system admin here, so my only option is to try installing Samba myself on my Linux box. To my surprise, I've found little or no information on installing
