Old smbpasswd file to new SMB 3.0 smbpasswd
Hello - Is there a script available to convert an old 2.2.18 smbpasswd file to the newer Smb 3.0 smbpasswd file? The reason I ask is that ive figured out why my users are getting bad errors when changing passwords locally. I have over 1000 users and dont wish to manually add them into a fresher smbpasswd file. Thanks TJ

INQUIRY, was: RE: smbpasswd not finding smbpasswd file
I have difficulties. I'm running samba-2.1-19991203.tar.gz, and get the following error: Domain password server not available. Can't setup password database vectors. Sander -- thanks. This is an excellent troubleshooting move. Once we can find people who do and don't have problems, we can exploit the differences. Thanks Steve Litt At 01:53 AM 12/08/1999 +0100, S. Striker wrote:

GUI for smbpasswd
Question? I have started at this company that has a NT network. I want to move them over to samba on RH6. I have already setup the shares and imported all the names to the passwd and then moved them to the smbpasswd. Of course they have the same password. Problem comes in that must of the end users are on 95/98 and are remote. As we all know the password has to match exactly for them to long

Machine account LCT field not updated in smbpasswd 3.0.26a/Solaris
I posted a message some weeks ago with no answer about the problem that after re-inserting a machine in the samba domain, the smbpasswd LCT field is not any more updated. - the machine NT password hash is updated but LCT no. - this problem does not occur when updating a user password - this problem does not seem to be OS dependent since the problem is the same on Solaris and SLES (compiled by me

Should smbpasswd change unix password too?
Hello. My unix password sync is working ok, thus when an user changes his password with "Ctrl+Alt+Del|Change Password" in Windows. However, if I run "smbpasswd" manually, I get two messages saying "password changed", but the unix password is not changed. :( Is this behaviour the right one? Thanks. - Oscar.

Smbpasswd in a cron job
Hi list For a project we are trying to change the samba password automatically in a cron job. Since smbpasswd doesn't allow the password to be entered otherwise than though the console (user input). We found a solution to the input part though expect. But as thing go expect doesn't work in a cron job since it has no tty. Is there anyone who can point us the right way to a solution.

/etc/samba/smbpasswd keeps changing - pulling my hair out
This is really bizarre. Running Samba 3.0.4 on SuSE 9.1. The password backend is smbpasswd. Each user has a system and samba account and everything has worked as expected until recently. But now, every new user I create is unable to log into Samba server (older users are still able to log in). Inspecting log.smbd the following messages are displayed: [2004/07/22 11:44:56, 2]
