Trouble with install, still
I've tried building it on a server that I know has pretty much every library possible for a program to need, but I'm still not getting a good samba install. I'm on white-dwarf linux (kernel 2.4.25), gcc 3.3.2, Samba 3.0.2a White-dwarf is home-grown, very much like slackware. When I configure and make and make install, I don't get any errors, but I when I look for some files

Windows client doesn't show up in findsmb
What does it mean if a windows XP consistently doesn't show up in findsmb even when it does show up in smbstatus? Also, I don't know if this is related or not, but the same machine sometimes shows up in smbstatus with two different PIDs. We've seen this with two different machines, both running XP. Here's smbstatus output (the machine in question is accountingiii): Samba

has 'smbtree -N' been emasculated lately?
I know smbtree -N used to do what I wanted, because I created an alias to it in ~/.bashrc called netview (based upon 'net view' in OS/2) many moons ago, when findsmb quit working. Now when I try it in *buntu 16.04 or any recent openSUSE or Knoppix (e.g. with samba 4.2.4 in OS 13.1 or 42.1), I always get a null return. nmblookup just produces a usage message, and its man page

Hi All: I have some questions when writing a lib with libsmbclient-dev ,my target environment is on any linux system. 1 I want to static link libsmbclient.a instead of using libsmbclient.so, but I got a lot of error , am I able to use libsmbclient-dev using static link? 2 I found that ?smbtree? command is more stable in finding all those domains and servers than

smbtree command shows nothing with SMB2/3

If I change my client max protocol=NT1 in smb.conf, I can see all server present in my Network. looks like below bug. https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12431 Can it be fixed or someother options can be used for the same to work with protocol greater than NT1

Findsmb manual page now lies because the output of smbclient -L changed?
In 2.2.8a days, findsmb would print the OS and Server version of the machines it found, like this: *=DMB +=LMB IP ADDR NETBIOS NAME WORKGROUP/OS/VERSION --------------------------------------------------------------------- 192.168.49.247 WINQA1 [QATEST] [Windows 5.0] [Windows 2000 LAN Manager] 192.168.49.250 WINQA2

findsmb patch
Hello Herb, all. I recently played a bit harder with Samba, as I'm working on getting it set up for my sister (remotely). I came across Herb's old 'findsmb' perl script which got me a lot further along than I had been. I wanted to note a small patch I made in order for the script to deal with 'bad' characters in the machine names: --- /usr/bin/findsmb Mon Oct 12

findsmb on Linux different than on SGI?
We're running an older version of Samba on an Irix machine, and just got 2.0.2 working (finally!) on our Intel/Linux box. The odd thing, is that findsmb gives different results on the two systms. On Irix it lists the NetBIOS names with OS descriptions, but on Linux it lists the IP name and no OS description. I went through it line by line and found the first difference at: ../nmblookup -r

Newer SMBTREE versions don't find all systems.
Hi, Trying the latest version again tonight 4.6.7 it has the same problem I've seen with the prior newer versions as well. The one I went back to was 4.4.15 which works. What is happening right now is there is a Win2K3 box that is the domain server, with thecompanydomain.com (NetBIOS domain name: COMPANY). That has the __MSBROWSE__ on it. I have a Linux Wheezy system on that is part of

Redhat ES3 & 4 findsmb
In hope and all googled out, have used the basic samba functions for some time. Have now installed a few RH ES3 & 4 machines and in the majority of cases, just have PC's access directories on the Linux servers and mount points from Linux to PC's. Have noticed, after the fact, that findsmd only finds itself. On the same network have two Linux machines Redhat 7.2 findsmb gets all

Slimming down smbtree?
Sorry if these questions are getting tiring, but I want to get the list of servers from "smbtree -NS" from an embedded system (e.g., custom wireless router firmware). Unfortunately, compiling smbtree ends up being a couple of MB large. I've tried a bunch of basic optimizations to shrink the executable size as possible (e.g., using -f{function,data}-sections and --gc-sections,

3.01 & FreeBSD Port/Install Makefile Config
Hello, It appears that the FreeBSD port of Samba 3.0.x may be falling behind. The port maintainter does not use Winbind and thus has not kept up with the development of it. 3.0.1 will very shortly be ported to FreeBSD, currently it is still at 3.0.0. I know there have been some recent changes to Samba that help FreeBSD out, and I wanted to make sure that the port of Samba 3.0.x on FreeBSD stays

Pruning embedded samba 3.6 installation
I'm using the Yocto Project to build an embedded distro, to which I'm adding Samba 3.6 from OpenEmbedded. Doing so increases my root file system from about 63MB to 175MB. I seem to be building a large Samba server with a small ancillary operating system tacked onto it. I listed the files in my file system image, and see that lots of the commands are quite large. I understand that Samba 4

smbtree Error NT_STATUS_HOST_UNREACHABLE
Hi, I've been running samba on a linux machine (dslkayak) to share a folder and a printer with several windows machines on a home network for a couple of years without problems. I've recently added a second linux machine (ps3ydl) to the network, but I cannot access it from any other machines on the network even though it can access the other network shares. There error I get is:
