Error copying folder with desktop.ini
Hi, I have some issues to copy a folder which includes hidden desktop.ini to a samba share using Windows 8 Pro RTM. Every time I copy a folder which contains a desktop ini with the LocalizedResourceName attribute, then Windows copies the file and immediately tries to copy the file again and therefore asking whether the file shall be replaced or not. My desktop.ini is copied from a Windows 8

the desktop.ini incident again
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi folks, I also have the problem that the notepad pops up (with desktop.ini opened), everytime I logon. I know the workaround that was mentioned a thousand times before: hide files = /desktop.ini/ntuser.ini/NTUSER.*/ I put the file to the [profile]-share, to the [global]-share, but it won't work! An extract of my smb.conf: [profiles]

Windows XP and desktop.ini
I've been having some problems with Samba 2.2.3a running on LinuxPPC acting as a domain controller for a WinXP client. The problem occurs when logging into the XP client; a file called 'desktop.ini' is opened in Notepad, and a number of the start menu entries also develop copies of desktop.ini. A quick check of the locally stored copy of the profile reveals that these desktop.ini

The contents of the ini differ from workstation to workstation. >From my understanding this file is a supposed to be a hidden file, but it is not. Any ideas? I apologize if I have not included

Desktop.ini in Startmenue
Hello, I've setup a PDC with Samba 3.0.23 and a ldap-backend. Roaming Profiles are working, but I always have the desktop.ini visible in some folders of the Windows-Startmenue. I found several hints for the dos-attributes in smb.conf, buit notthing seems to work. Any hints? Here is my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = example server string = b-login passdb backend

Interpreting desktop.ini
Hi, I'm coping with the interpretation of the desktop.ini on samba shares, as I have an application, which requests these desktop.ini files to alter the folder-icon (besides the windows explorer). I've seen in the archive many posts how to avoid accessing these files, I now am in the situation, in which i need the desktop.ini files interpreted: In every subdirectory a desktop.ini file

automount, samba, desktop.ini issues
Program: update_links.pl Author: Ryan Wyler <ryan@nhorizon.net> Problem this program solves: Windows machines taking a LONG time to browse shares of automount points which include directories that are inaccessable to the samba server. Explanation: We have our samba shares setup to mount the unix automount directories. The problem is there are MANY automount directories that the

PDC for XP: empty desktop and desktop.ini showing up
Hello there, I'm trying to set up Samba as a PDC for Windows XP Professional (SP2). It seems to work fine. Machine accounts are created automatically, passwords between Unix and Samba users get synced, I can logon, profile directories are created - but there's a problem. I know that this is well-known, but it drives me crazy and I don't know any solution. First of all, the

configuration needed to load roaming profiles off of a BDC?
I have a PDC named GOMER with IP 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named BLDG1 with IP 10.8.3.231, both in the domain ADAMSTEST. I have a user testuser who logged in successfully to GOMER and has a roaming profile in /var/lib/samba/profiles/testuser. So I changed the TCP/IP settings of the windows XP computer testuser uses from the WINS server of 10.8.3.37 to 10.8.3.231 so it would use BLDG1 for

Enabling interpretation of desktop.ini and alphabetical sorting when icons are grouped by type
Hi, How can I make it so that on Samba shares the desktop.ini file is interpreted (responsible for displaying the folder customisations such as icons like My Music or My Pictures folders or others folders customized with the "Customize" tab in the properties window). It is interpreted OK on local folders or on Windows Server 2003 shares, just not on Samba shares. Further more, on Samba

Desktop.ini (part) solution
Aha! Although I'm not an everyday samba programmer, I have found a descrepancy between a windows code snippet running on a windows server, and on a samba (2.2.7a, but also earlier) systems. This causes the dreaded Desktop.ini problem (yay!) and probably some others too! The test code in windows: #include "stdafx.h" #include <windows.h> int main(int argc, char* argv[]) {

Desktop.ini hiddeln file creates during compilaiton
Make a reproducible example [1][2][3], because it doesn't happen for me. Then post your example at [4] or [5], because this is the wrong list for this question. You may find that the act of browsing the directory using a GUI is what creates that file rather than the compilation itself. [4.3.11-Ubuntu] SMBD keeps Locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini after logout
After having migrated my machines and user to Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu 16.04.1 (no domain upgrade, new provision, all accounts new defined) and old data copied over to the new machines, I have now a broader testbed and notice issues I didn't see prior to that. Having roaming profiles (defined in the user object in LDB)... Seemingly at random smbd keeps locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini for a

folder redirection of my documents
I have a PC running XP that several users share. I've logged in as them on it and right clicked on my documents and redirected it for each person to r:\my documents so that their roaming profiles will load faster. I've ran into a problem that when anyone logs out on this PC, XP attempts to synchronize my documents of everyone that has logged into that PC with folder redirection.

Roaming Profile Question
I am getting a shell32.dll error with my roaming profiles. I have never seen this before and google queries haven't gotten any solutions. I am using WinXP with the current service pack. This shell32.dll error pops up in a notepad window. This is kind of annoying and I know its windows related. Anyone know how to shut it off, its driving me mad.
