Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
Hi. I want to move my current domain running centos 5 to centos 7. Samba3x ==>Samba4x openldap 2.3x==>2.4.x I move my ldap backup that I got from backups: slapcap -l mydomain.ldif Next move my config files to the new server: /etc/ldap.conf /etc/openldap/slapd.conf /etc/openldap/ldap.conf Schemas are correct. Copy DB_CONFIG that doesn't exist on openldap 2.4, to /var/lib/ldap/

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
I vaguely remember some issue where openldap between versions went from using a single file for config to a multiple file config. I think you could use the slapcat command to convert. updating samba/ldap: do I need new attributes?
Hello, I plan to update my samba-3.0.22/openldap-2.3.24 to samba-3.0.34/openldap-2.4.15 and I'm currently testing it. This is on FreeBSD. My idea is : 1) slapcat the openldap server and save the various tdb files. 2) deinstall samba and openldap and wipe out the bdb files 3) install the newer versions 4) slapadd to the new openldap server This seems to work in my test lab. During my tests I

Samba + OpenLdap replication problem
Hi all, not sure if I can ask here, because this sounds to me more an OpenLdap than a Samba problem, but it involves samba too. I've got a domain controller based on Fedora 2, samba 3.0.7-2.FC2 and openldap-2.1.29-1, which serves 60 users in a domain. Now I'm trying to set up a backup domain controller, based on the same software, on another machine. I stop Openldap on the master, dump

problem with sambaNextRid (WAS: updating samba/ldap: do I need new attributes?)
Hello, I did the steps described below and I have a problem with machine RIDs. When I first join a machine, samba adds to my sambaDomainName ldap entry a sambaNextRid attribute with a value of 1000. Now samba uses this value (incremented each time) to give its RID to the machine. This is going to be a real problem as my current samba computes RDIs as 1000+2*UID. FWIW I'm using

Centos 7.1 openldap-2.4.39 question
I have two instances of an openldap-2.4.39 server running with syncrepl in a master-master replication setup. These are Centos 7.1 test servers which have been running for over 2 months now with no problems. Partly the good behavior of the LDAP servers is due to very little exercise. Yesterday I decided to try and see exactly how well replication was working. With server-2 up and running I

PDC migration from suse 8.2 - samba 2.2.7 ldap - to latest versions on ubuntu 8.04
Hello, Hopefully I'm in the right place asking for help :-) I need to move from an old physical Suse 8.2 - samba 2.2.7 + ldap - to latest samba versions, I would like to use an ubuntu 8.04 virtual machine. The domain is in production on the physical server, to be dismissed after migration. It is also the file server!!! so /DATA/ has all shared and permission driven file access.. I was

Moving Samba PDC to new machine
I am looking to move our current Samba primary domain controller to a new machine. The current machine is EOL, running Fedora 11 (old), and had way too many services on it to start with (mail, dns, samba, mysql replication, primary ldap, etc). I am looking to move to a Xen domu with either Fedora 13 or Centos 5.5. What my question is is this: what should I look for when I migrate the samba

Primary Group SID incorrect - ahhhh
Hi, I'm running 3.0.33-3.29.el5_5.1 .. migrating from 3.0.21a with an LDAP back-end. I've use slapadd to import the LDIF file I've exported from my original samba server, but it seems like samba isn't grabbing the Primary Group SID from the ldif file. For Example: dn: uid=chris,ou=Users,dc=orgon,dc=com sambaSID: S-1-5-21-3318375643-2463009161-752822123-3028 sambaPrimaryGroupSID:

Windows XP joining Samba/LDAP domain problem (User cannot be found) [SOLVED]
To anyone out there who's having problems joining their Samba/LDAP domain with XP here's a solution. The main symptom is that the XP join domain gui returns a "user cannot be found" error. The setup that I experienced this on was configured and managed using the smbldap-tools package. Usual disclaimer applies if it fails to work, you are responsible for backing up your

Possible documentation error in Chapter 8. Migrating NT4 Domain to Samba-3
Looking through this chapter today and ran across the following inconsistency under the section NT4 Migration Using LDAP Backend. Step 3 says "3. Create a file called preload.LDIF as shown in Example 8.1. Edit the contents so that the domain name and SID are correct for the site being installed." Then step 4 says "4. Preload the LDAP database so it is ready to receive the

Samba 3.0.9 ==> 3.0.14a migration LDIF problem
I'm trying to migrate my existing RedHat ES Samba PDC to Ubuntu. The RedHat version of Samba is 3.0.9 and the Ubuntu version is 3.0.14a. Everything was going fine until I tried to import the LDIF of the existing LDAP directory. The LDIF actually imports all of the structure (OU and Group definitions) and all of my users, but it fails when it comes to my first machine account with this

Samba 3.0 + OpenLDAP 2.1 Saga (LDAP Attacks!)
Oh Wise Ones, For the past two days, I have contested with the Samba documentation and other sources of lore in a vain attempt to achieve Samba/LDAP integration. My test system is running RedHat 9 with updates applied, along with OpenLDAP & OpenSSL from redhat-rawhide, and the Samba 3.0.1pre1 RPM from the Samba website. A couple of questions: The HOWTOs instruct one to slapadd a file

Question about switching from Windows 2k Server to SAMBA 3 under Centos
Greetings List, I'll begin by outlining what it is that I have to do. First, I have a windows 2k server that is currently on its last legs. It holds a list of users, groups and shares that are still required after the migration to a Linux based server. I've heard of a command called 'vampire' that extracts the required users and groups, though as of yet have been

OpenLDAP Problem
Everyone, We currently are running a Centos3 directory server, I am currently testing centos4 as an upgrade of this machine in the future. There is a special user we have called cn=samba,ou=special in our directory, this user is for samba to use when binding to the directory. On the production replica server, i have taken an offline slapcat ldif of the entire tree. I then copied this file to
