wine-users digest, Vol 1 #354 - 8 msgs
There was an HL demo, downloaded from Sierra, that was a completely new
episode - more like a taste of things to come. I enjoyed playing it, even
after I had finished the full game, but was a little disappointed with the
ending of the demo. Can't complain for free, though.
I suggest you go and buy the 'battle pack' or whatever it's called - HL,

Really Funky Samba Errors (smbd/nttrans.c:call_nt_transact_ioctl)
Hi All,
I'm experiencing some really funky Samba errors, and I'm hoping that some
of you might have some ideas. This only happens sporadically, and when it
does, I loose Samba connectivity for a while. Here are my Samba logs:

restricted shell
Hello,
I would like to elicit a discussion about the merits of a statically linked
restricted chrooting shell like scponly which incorporates the functionality of scp
and sftp. The benefits is that a chrooted user directory does not have to
contain the binaries or libraries for scp and sftp and an administrator does not have to
play games with the home path to chroot a user. The disadvantage, of

Length of share name
I am new at setting up Samba3. I had heard that the name share name is
supposed to be limited to 8 characters or less; i.e., [home] or [configs],
etc. Is this correct, or can the name be longer? Also, are there any
specific characters that are not allowed? I am not planning on using any,
but I was just wondering.
Ciao!

Windows Server 2003 SP1 Issues (3.0.15pre2)
Hi All,
I'm running into some issues accessing a Samba server that's in turn
authenticating against a Win2k3-SP1 domain controller (security=ads). I
understand there were some known issues corrected in a patch, and I'm
currently running 3.0.15pre2, which I understand includes that patch.

New subscriber here. I noticed that the FTS index is not used in compound searches. Is this expected? Tested in 2.0.0 and 2.0.8:

root can't login to smb-ldap-pdc
Hi all,
I'm using samba 2.2.8a and trying to set it up as pdc using ldapsam with
a big help from idealx.
I have a test pdc working almost the same except it doesn't have acl
support and it's using 2.2.6. But I haven't configured acl yet on the
new system.
Both seem to have the same entries in ldap (even encrypted passwords for
root are the same) but when I to logon with root to

Re: [Serusers] SER IP PBX for multiple clients
Waldo,
How do you let your customers manage 'their' PBX. I too have a setup
like you. However, I installed a * server for each customer, via
vserver. I'd like to now what kind of software/webbased package you use
for this.
I also have SER installed as a front-end server for the * servers. But,
as I'm still not very into SER, don't know exactly how this fits in.
Should I use

share level access and Windows XP
I am the tech coordinator in a small public school in rural North Dakota
and all of last year I ran Samba on redhat 8.0. I had XP machines that
used Samba as the PDC. Worked fine. But now I am getting some XP home
machines that cannot log on to a domain. That's okay, because I am
determined this year to use solely redhat. In fact, I put the
partitions down to 5 gig for Windows and

Agent Login/Logout
This may be a stupid question, but I couldn't find anything on the
wiki about it or on google.
I have about 5 agents in my call center. I want them to login using
agentcallbacklogin. The reason being is that I don't get so many
inbound calls. We mostly make outbound calls. Therefore, during the
times where we don't get calls, I want my agents to manually dial
out. When calls

Authentication incompatibility?
I recently compiled Samba 3.0.23d on SuSE Linux 9.0 on an i386 computer.
The software appears to work but its not compatible with other SMB /
CIFS clients. If I use the newly compiled programs on two different
machines they can login and browse each others resources using the
'smbclient' program. If I try to use a windoze computer, the Linux
kernel (2.6.16.16 built on the same

Re: [Serusers] SER IP PBX for multiple clients
lqbal,
I do plan on having alot of users. Two markets I'm trying to get some
volume users from are: residential consumers and business users.
Residential consumers should get basic line services such as their
own DID, voicemail, caller-id, call-waiting, three-way calling, and
basically, all the standard features you get from companies like
Vonage, etc. This particular market base

Bad password when using "map untrusted to domain"
Greetings samba list,
I'm running into an issue when attempting to use "map unknown to domain" on a samba servers bound to my AD domain. When a client maps a share and is not part of the domain, the domain is properly mapped for the user (according to the logs), but the domain controllers report that the password is wrong. I've copied my password out of notepad and pasted it

Bug? Authentication failure with multiple logins from same client IP addy
We have a client machine (Windows 2000) that runs an application which spawns separate processes with each authenticate separately to the SAMBA server (3.0.13)
When several of these processes run at the same time, SOME of the authentications fail with NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD written to the log.smbd file (error level 2)...I've attached a snippet of the log file to the end of this message

Mapped drive behaviour after Windows reboot
Hello,
I was previously using samba-3.3.3 on my linux machine.
I could 'map a drive' from a Windows XP machine to access files on the linux
machine.
If I rebooted the Windows machine, and tried to access the share again by
clicking on the mapped drive icon, I would be denied, but I would be given a
prompt in which to type in a username and password.
The samba log.clients on the linux
