multiline, cordless, expandable phone system and asterisk message waiting
Basically, pretty much all the 2 line cordless systems I've seen come with a
built in digital answering system that I'll never use, the main problem with
this is that these units don't support VMWI (visual message waiting
indicator) with telco supplied voicemail. This is a problem because I'll be
setup an Asterisk system in the next month or so to handle my 2 analog and 1

Harddisk gone bad
Hi all,
I know this is the EXT3 list, and my problem is with an EXT2 filesys, but I cannot seem to find a more suitable list on this server, and I have seen a lot of knowledge go by on this list and in the archives, so I thought I'd give it a try anyway...
Here goes nothing:
I am in a terrible problem: My data disk on my Linux server has gone bad, with approx 18 GB of data on it, and I

Cannot join domain
Hello, I just configured a computer on my local network to work as a PDC
with Samba, although I'm not able to join the Domain from the windows
computer I want to add. I though it was that the server was unreachable, but
I can ping the server from the computer and viceversa. If someone please can
help me, I'll appreciate it.

Roaming profiles problems Samba 3.0.2a / Win XP Pro/Win2K
Hi guys,
I'm experiencing seemingly random problems using roaming profiles with
Samba 3.0.2 on Debian Woody and clients being Win XP Pro and Win2K (all
of them running the latest service packs and critical updates and so
forth).
Sometimes when one of the machines tires to login the server profile
can't be found. The error Windows comes up with is "Network name cannot
be found."

only ROOT user?
Hi all.
I am a total newbie at Samba.
I am running Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) and have Samba 3.022 installed. I am
trying to set it up as a Domain controller (to be a domain server that
Windows machines can log into).
So far, I can get it to do this, but only with the ROOT account. Any
other account and it tells me that the user/password is incorrect or
invalid.
Below is my smb.conf file.

XP clients cannot find Samba
Hello,
I've set up Samba 3.0.22 on an Ubuntu box for testing purposes. Below
is my smb.conf file. The Samba server, ubuntu, is on the other side
of a Linksys WRTP54G router, serving NAT to my Windows XP clients on
the inside. I've opened port 139 on the router, set up NetBEUI,
placed entries in the clients' hosts & lmhosts files. For some
reason, the clients can logon to

How to recover: Lost /var/lib/samba/profiles restoring from disk crash
I had configured a linux server as a PDC for my home network with a
couple windows boxes.
I had a disk crash, and recovered all of my configuration from backups.
I installed fc6 instead of fc4, with whatever samba came along with it
(3.0.23c). But somewhere along the line I realized that I had no
backups of /var since I long ago learned that /var was for stuff that
you don't need to

Few questions on configuring Samba as a PDC
Please don't flame me. I did attempt to search before posting this question
(through Gmail), if there's a better way, please let me know!
I followed this article for implementing a Samba PDC:

Question 1) The only accout that appears to be able to add an account onto
the domain is the root account. There must be a way to change that

roaming profiles moved to a new machine - big confusion
Hello samba dancers,
I'm Friedrich Strohmaier and new to this mailing list. More important:
I'm (very) new to PDCing Computers in a network, and I ran in big
troubles doing so.
Try to tell a long story in short: I'm a fairly experienced
administrator for linux systems, and was orderd to move a
serverinstallation (SuSE7.0, Samba2.2.x) to a new machine. The old
machine did stop

will this clever plan work?
allow me to play someone with a fractional clue for the moment.
What I want is a Gentoo based system that can run multiple virtual
instances (maybe as many as 10 or 20) of a stock application configuration.
My fantasy is that I will be able to build a single disk image for all
of the basic OS and application to be shared between multiple virtual
machines. Update that single core image using

samba machines as PDC and member
I have set up samba to be a AD member and no other linux boxes. It worked
well.
I set up samba to be a PDS with no other linux boxes. It worked well.
Now, I need to make a samba client that works with the samba PDS. I can join
the domain. winbind can list users and such. getent doesnt work.
I can see the authentication succeeding on the PDS but I cant access any
shares. smbclient -L DOMAIN
