How to recover: Lost /var/lib/samba/profiles restoring from disk crash
I had configured a linux server as a PDC for my home network with a
couple windows boxes.
I had a disk crash, and recovered all of my configuration from backups.
I installed fc6 instead of fc4, with whatever samba came along with it
(3.0.23c). But somewhere along the line I realized that I had no
backups of /var since I long ago learned that /var was for stuff that
you don't need to

multiline, cordless, expandable phone system and asterisk message waiting
Basically, pretty much all the 2 line cordless systems I've seen come with a
built in digital answering system that I'll never use, the main problem with
this is that these units don't support VMWI (visual message waiting
indicator) with telco supplied voicemail. This is a problem because I'll be
setup an Asterisk system in the next month or so to handle my 2 analog and 1

Few questions on configuring Samba as a PDC
Please don't flame me. I did attempt to search before posting this question
(through Gmail), if there's a better way, please let me know!
I followed this article for implementing a Samba PDC:

Question 1) The only accout that appears to be able to add an account onto
the domain is the root account. There must be a way to change that

Harddisk gone bad
Hi all,
I know this is the EXT3 list, and my problem is with an EXT2 filesys, but I cannot seem to find a more suitable list on this server, and I have seen a lot of knowledge go by on this list and in the archives, so I thought I'd give it a try anyway...
Here goes nothing:
I am in a terrible problem: My data disk on my Linux server has gone bad, with approx 18 GB of data on it, and I

Roaming profiles problems Samba 3.0.2a / Win XP Pro/Win2K
Hi guys,
I'm experiencing seemingly random problems using roaming profiles with
Samba 3.0.2 on Debian Woody and clients being Win XP Pro and Win2K (all
of them running the latest service packs and critical updates and so
forth).
Sometimes when one of the machines tires to login the server profile
can't be found. The error Windows comes up with is "Network name cannot
be found."

roaming profiles moved to a new machine - big confusion
Hello samba dancers,
I'm Friedrich Strohmaier and new to this mailing list. More important:
I'm (very) new to PDCing Computers in a network, and I ran in big
troubles doing so.
Try to tell a long story in short: I'm a fairly experienced
administrator for linux systems, and was orderd to move a
serverinstallation (SuSE7.0, Samba2.2.x) to a new machine. The old
machine did stop

Roaming profiles issues
This might be simple, but I have been banging my head against google for
awhile now and not an answer in sight... Anyway, Samba PDC with roaming
profiles. When a user logs out the profile isn't written because it says
that "The specified network name is no longer available" Whatever that
is supposed to mean. Following is my smb.conf. Please CC me in replies
as I am not subbed to the

Unreliable connection to Samba PDC - Connections get lost, Roaming Profiles do not sync, Files can't be written, etc..
Hello all!
I am having severe problems with my Samba PDC.
1. My Roaming profile in 3 out of 10 times does not get synchronized
correctly with the server - without any obvious reason. This sometimes
destroys my profile by losing data and commonly from then on the profile
is never again synchronized correctly. A backup restore of the computer
is necessary.
2. When I edit a document (e.g. word

Problem with Windows 7 and roaming profiles
Hello together,
we try to setup a samba domain controller with LDAP and roaming profiles for Win7-Clients.
Everything looks fine last Friday but today the clients did not longer save changes to the profiles. There is no error in samba log and also no in the windows log. If I delete a profile from a client it is loaded correctly at next logon, but the changes are not saved at logout.

Freebsd 3.5->4 New Server Profile Paths Lost
I am migrating a Freebsd 8.2 Samba 3.5.11 system to Freebsd 9.1 Samba
4.0.4. I copied over all of the users home directories, local accounts,
and the tdb files. I ran the classic upgrade tool, got the server up and
running, and users could login however they were on fresh local profiles
rather than roaming profiles.
In the log file for the station, I found the following message

using samba 3.0.28. However when logging in for the first time, they get the
message;
Windows cannot locate a server copy....
