Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello! It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain. Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel). But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore. Microsoft points out that joining NT4-domains with Vista SP1 and Server 2008 is not supported/tested

With WinVista i can join the domain but can't login to it after i join to the domain. It gives me an RPC failure. I noticed that it doesn't seem to even find the PDC. I don't even get any

Windows 10 1709 detected as OSX
Hello all, I have a weird problem. We have several Windows 10 machines on our Network. All but one run older releases than 1709. We are using roaming profiles on those machines. The share is setup up as to allow different profiles depending on the machine used (see below). The %a is used as a legacy from times where WinXP and Win7 were used in parallel. The path then looks like this:

Vista Ulimate joining Samba-Domain
Hi list, I have a question concerning a MS Vista Ultimate-Client which I already have joined with a Samba-Domain (3.0.26a), and I do hope that anyone can help me or can give me a hint where to proceed my search. My problem is, that the logon process on this Vista-Client is very long (~1-2 min.). After switching to the detailed logon view, I can see, that Vista displays the (german) messages

Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi, This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba configurations. After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other vista versions) in creating files and folders on network shares. The problem

Vista roaming profiles
Hi All, I've happily had Samba (3.0.24) operating as DC for my Win2k/XP network for years. I've just upgraded to Vista and eveything seems to be working fine (shares, domain logons) apart from roaming profiles. Just after logging on, the following error appears in a bubble from the system tray: "Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary

Vista, 35 second login delay, domain only.
Hello, I've spent time trying to find an answer to this one, but no luck. The main problem is that when any user logs into Vista with a domain account, there will be ~35 second delay where the system just sits at the welcome screen with the spinning circle. (after typing their password) This happens on Vista sp1, and earlier. Also on Samba 3.0.24, 3.0.28 and 3.2. I'm pretty sure

Nagging performance issues with Vista
Hi All, I've got some performance issues with Samba and Vista that I just can't seem to figure out. Googling and fiddling has all been in vain up until now, so I'm not sure what I can do other than wait for Samba 4, but maybe someone here can find something I've missed. First off, the server is an Athlon 64 1.8GHz running Gentoo 2006.1, tested with both Samba 3.0.24 and

vista and samba 2.2.8?
I run a 2.2.8-samba as fileserver and PDC for a small network with NT4- and XP-clients. Now I've got a vista-machine and want to access shares on the server (not joining the domain), but whatever I try: vista tells me all the time that the login is incorrect. I tried all the usual combinations like server\username, username, \\server\username ... Is there a general problem with vista

empty directory with samba 2.0.24 and vista?
Hi all, When I connect the samba-3.0.24 server on a Windows Vista machine, I always got empty directory. I mean that I can't see any files in the directory although they really exist there. But from the same Window Vista machine, everything works fine when I connect another samba-3.0.32 server. After searching the Google, I find that the same problem has been reported before, But

Vista on domain... can Samba join without Administration priviledges?
Hello there, I have a machine on campus which used to only have Vista. The admins set up (in Vista) an account for me on the domain and given me administrator rights (on the local machine). Linux/BSD alternatives are a no-no here so I did the maverick thing and installed Fedora. But I would like to have access to domain resources from my GNU/Linux partition if I can (printing is especially

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello, I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue for Windows XP roaming

Desiring to set up Windows Vista and Linux Fedora Core 4
Greetings! Tonight is unfortunately the first small bit of time I've had to even try to get Samba configured between my Vista and my Linux FC4. (My mother as well as my extremely limited home time dealing with important things are my main delays.) It's not going well. :-) I have added hosts allow with 192.168.1 and 192.168.2. I have experimented with a few things. I

bad performance Vista <-> Samba over gbit
Hi, I've a strange issue with the performance of file transfers between a Samba server and a Vista client. My configuration looks like this: fileserver: Samba 3.3 on FreeBSD 6.2 ----- gbit switch ----- workstation: Vista x64 When transfering files between the two PCs, I get abount 6.5 to 7 MB / sec. On my last Vista installation I got about 40 MB / sec. I've tried the following: -

Browsning problems from Vista
I have a setup where a Vista machine that is behind a NAT connects to a Linux (debian) machine to access SMB shares on that machine. The connection is made with VPN using L2TP/IPSec. I have configured the Linux machine to act as WINS server and PPP will give the Vista machine a new IP on the same subnet and also tell Vista that the WINS server is the Linux machine. I have added one share

access problem on linux mounted Windows Vista share
Windows Workgroup, private network with a Windows Vista PC sharing a folder for full access to a specific user name. The share is browsable and readable from other PCs on the network. I can mount the share on linux (Debian /Ubuntu) with no errors BUT have no permissions on the mount point once mounted (see below). # mkdir data # mount -t smbfs -o username=xxxx, password=xxxx //CHEDDAR/data data

Vista compatibilty in SIP softphones
Greetings list, I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that, unsurprisingly, nearly every new PC seems to be coming with Vista these days. I expect it'll only be a matter of time for all of us before clients start needing Vista-compatible softphones (if it's not already happened). So, what's the story with Vista compatibility amongst the softphones currently out there?

rgl.snapshot() on Vista
Dear Daniel (and Duncan): back in January you reported that you were having trouble saving an rgl movie on Vista. I don't know if you ever got that resolved, but a student of mine is now having a similar problem, not specific to dynamic graphics (which would have to be a problem outside of rgl anyway). He may report more on the symptoms, but essentially rgl.snapshot produces black or funky

Vista and UNC solved
For those having problems with Vista, and unc paths showing up empty, I can confirm that: [global] host msdfs = no fixes the problem. This is on 3.0.24 with all patches. Note that I am not using Dfs root shares or the like. YMMV Hope this helps someone. Cheers! -- Richard Potter
