samba banner string
Hi list!
I need your expertise.
How do I do to rid of the banner "SAMBA 3.0.14a on debian on sarge
(pdcsrv)"
I can see that when I use the M$ server tools and I've tried to rewrite the
string but when I click "ok" the string still the same, what I mean is that
no matter what I write there it doesn't change.
I use JXplorer to navigate throw my ldap

Guys,

off other domain users but user DOMAIN\mark and DOMAIN\thomas whilst letting

Samba 3.0.22 PDC - "The parameter is incorrect"
Hi everyone;
I have searched the internet up & down for an answer to this problem. I'm stumped.
Here's what I've got:
Samba 3.0.22 configured as a PDC using tdbsam as the passdb backend (switching to LDAP when I get everything working).
testparm says everything is fine. I've added the root user and a normal user to the database (using smbpasswd). I even went so

rpc trust gives NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE with 3.0.11
When I try to establish a trust from SAMBA 3.0.11 to Windows 2003 I get the
error: NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE. I have no problem the other way. I had no
problem either, when I ran SAMBA 3.0.9, and the problem disappeared when I
down-graded to 3.0.9.
Here is what happens ('CALYPSO' is the Windows-server and 'KONTOR' is its
domain-name):

Roaming profiles not supporting quota
Dear Group,
I'm using samba 3.x as a PDC, and I'm using linux system quota v2 for samba.
Here is my problem: if a user copies a big file to the desktop (bigger than the quota set for that
user), when he logs off, the profile wont syncronize with the server with the message "disk full".
Is there a way to let the WinXp client to understand how much space is available also for

Samba 3.0 and XP roaming profiles
Hello friends,
I am running Samba 3.0 on RHEL4 server. Around 200 roaming profiles are also
configured and they login to XP machines. Things are working for us except
in network rollout scenarios. We dont know how to roll out patches or some
global changes to all the profiles. We have to visit each and every profile
(loggin each of them) to do even the small changes. Today we have to map a

"load printers = Yes" produces working but invisible printers
Hi,
I am running samba 3.0.21c (Sernet packages on Debian Sarge) and trying
to automatically share cups printers via "load printers = Yes"
- Printing seems to work if you install the printers on the client by
calling con2prt.exe, but
- the printers do not appear as shares when browsing the network
neighbourhood or calling "net view \\servername" on the client.

cups printing and user names from trusted domains
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Im currently running some tests for a samba/CUPS based print server.
The print server is a member of an NT domain and uses winbind to import
NT domain users. Users accessing the print server will be not from the
same domain but from trusted domains.
Everything basically seems to work, once you use sufficiently new
versions of cups and samba. (I'm on Debian

Non-root accounts cannot join the Samba PDC:s domain
I have a Samba PDC with LDAP as its back end. It works perfectly
except for one major detail: Non-root users cannot join the Samba PDC.
I change the domain on Windows XP clients like this:
1. Log in as administrator on an Windows XP client
2. Change domain with Control Panel -> System -> Computer name ->
"Change..." and in the Domain field, I enter the name of the Samba

Configuring firewall to allow Samba to work

This is a note for all those people out there who had to turn off their

interface to the firewall by typing

Click on "Customize".
Click the check box for your network adapter (usually "eth0").
Click on the checkboxes for any services you want to allow (I

gpedit.msc as centralized policy for 2k/xp clients in domain
I found this from
http://charon.minilab.bdeb.qc.ca/anonym/nt/2000/ads/TTGW2KGP_Vol1through4.pdf
I would like to figure out how to do this gpedit.msc+AD+gpc+gpt magic for
win2k/xp with linux+samba(2.2/3.0/tng)+openldap and is it possible at all?
Thanks.
Although GPOs provide significantly more policy features than NT 4.0 System
Policy provides,
GPOs are stored and processed differently than NT

Access to a share resource without password
Dear, I have a Linux Samba server and a Windows XP SP2 client joined
to the "g-company.net" domain.
I want to access a Linux share resource in /var/share without password
from WXP desktop FROM ANY USER.
This is my scenario:
- I don't create any Linux local user because I want total access from any user
- I use security = share
- My smbusers file is:
root = administrator admin

Mapping a network drive to a Windows Drive Letter
We have this working.
however
Some developers edit files using "windows editors" and when they then copy
them to the Windows Drive Letter which is mapped to a Unix machine, the
resultant file is full of ^M characters..... build breaks..... and so on
Until now we have been telling users to run "dos2unix" beforehand, but
somebody told me that "Samba" can

That said its still worth considering imho because of the reasons stated
(and honestly one particular simple reading of the docs might suggest that
