NT Administrator account changes permissions when logging onto samba server
Hello, all I have a problem with my administrator accounts on WinNT with Samba. When I log in locally as the Administrator, it works as expected - I *am* the administrator for the machine. When I log into the domain as Administrator, it works as expected - I log in as root. The prolem comes when I try to do anything on the local machine as Administrator (logged into the Samba server). How to migrate local MS Windows users onto samba AD DC ?
Hi, I would have to join 7 computers (a mix of win 8, 8.1, 10 WKSs) to samba 4.7 AD DC. After I will have joined those workstations to samba AD DC I would like the users to experience a minimal disruption of their Desktops and profiles. The computers have never been registered to any domain before. Can their existing local user names be mirrored on the ADDC (samba)? Can their user profiles be

restrict what users can log onto each workstation
I have a Samba server with Windows XP clients, and roaming profiles for every user. At this moment everyone can log onto any workstation, but it shouldn't be like that: there are some workstations where anyone can log into, but three of them should be restricted to some specific users. I thought about making local users for them, but we need all users to have roaming profiles, I can't

Overlaying acls onto a share.
Not sure if this is what I'm looking for but if it's possible with samba, I'd appreciate pointers at the correct documentation. We've got a bunch of filespace shared out onto our samba server from a fileserver that doesn't support ACLs, we're stuck using basic rwxr-x---- type permissions. Each share is assigned to a Unit so we've controlled access by group and put

Perf difference between Windows mapped drive and UNC share accessing Samba share?
we're using Samba 3.0.10 on a Mac OS X server (XServe), and are accessing files on the XServe from Windows Server 2003. for the specific situation of creating thumbnails of images, i'm seeing a huge perf difference between accessing the same file via mapped drive vs. UNC path. if we map the Z: drive to \\usseast01\assetstorage (Z:\foo.tif), and create a thumbnail of a 1.5MB TIFF file,

Trusted domain users unwantedly mapping onto local domain users
Having set up two way trust between a Samba domain (with LDAP backend) and an AD domain, I find that 1. Users from the trusted domain are authenticated against the proper DC (that is, their regular password works), but only if there is a corresponding local domain user. 2. Users from the trusted domain are being mapped onto Samba/POSIX users associated with the local Samba domain, despite

glmmPQL, log-likelihoods issue
Greetings- a reviewer for a paper of mine noted an anomaly in some models I ran using glmmPQL (from the MASS package). Specifically, the models are three-level hierarchical probit models estimated using PQL under R. The anomaly is that the log-likelihoods decrease (or, alternatively -2logLik increases) as variables are added to the null model. This is unusual, and I'm trying to figure out

Unable to compile --with-mysql on Solaris
Hello I'm hoping someone can give me a pointer as to how to compile Dovecot with MySQL support on Solaris. I am trying to compile dovecot 2.0.13 (also tried 2.0.9) on Solaris (OpenSolaris 2009-06, snv_111b) with the OpenSolaris provided MySQL 5.1.30 under /usr/mysql. The server is a Sun X2100 M2, which has a dual core AMD Opteron processor (amd64). Running "./configure

Unable to open new log file /usr/local/samba/var/log.smbd: Too many open files
Hi, I have a weird problem using Samba 2.2.5 on a Slackware 8.1 Linux distribution and a Compaq Proliant 3200 machine. Normally everything works just fine, but when opening an assembly drawing in a CAD application on a W2K client, which consists of a lot of sub-drawings, all connections to this client are closed, and following lines are written to the smb log. Mapping a drive letter to a Samba share
Hey guys, I'm in kind of a crunch right now. Due to a poorly written script that I don't have control over, I need to be able to map a drive letter to a Samba share so that it works seamlessly with UNC (i.e \\server\Share <file:///\\server\Share> ). Basically, I need a way for a share name with a $ in it to be recognized as a valid network name. My current setup is like so:

Few questions on configuring Samba as a PDC
Please don't flame me. I did attempt to search before posting this question (through Gmail), if there's a better way, please let me know! I followed this article for implementing a Samba PDC: http://www.howtoforge.com/samba_setup_ubuntu_5.10_p4 Question 1) The only accout that appears to be able to add an account onto the domain is the root account. There must be a way to change that

Samba share mapped to a virtual directory via UNC within IIS doesn't work
I have a Samba share that I've created from a Linux box. I've mapped this sucessfully to drive in Windows 2003 server. I'm also able to read/write to it under Windows explorer just fine. It's using user security so I have to enter the username and password defined in the Linux box when connecting to this share. I then mapped a virtual directory under IIS to the UNC name of this
