slow access while crossmounting samba
Hi, I've got two linux machines with the same distribution and samba 3 that cross-mounts a share (i.e., machine a mounts a share of machine b and vice versa). I'm experiencing slow access from the machines to the opposite mounted share and I don't know what this slow performance can be due to. I'm not running with oplocks cause the share is accessed only by the other linux

invisible server
Hi, I've got a few samba server in my network, but one of them is "invisible". I cannot do a nmblookup on it (even from the server itself), but I cannot telnet the port 137, thus it should not be a problem of firewall. From windows xp machines, I can connect specifying the IP address, while from win98 machines I cannot (I got an error like network name does not exist). The

samba slow and several "Write andx Request"
Hi all, I'm running version 3.0.28a on Ubuntu linux, and apparently from a day to another I got performance issues: without any change in smb.conf (except a few added shares) I have mac osx and linux clients getting a very slow upload/download speed. I've checked with other protocols, like scp and performances are good, so I can exclude a network/hardware problem. Other clients are

pdc and shellinfo
Hi, I'm trying to set up my samba server as PDC, but when I login from windows xp a notepad windows pops up showing: [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787 while it works under consumer windows. Any idea about? Thanks, Luca -- Luca Ferrari, fluca1978@infinito.it

Looking for compiled version 1.9 of Samba
I am trying to assist a client who need a compiled version of Samba 1.9 for his SCO ODT 3.2 v4.2 environment. We are trying to connect an old version of DataFlex on SCO and need the bridge. Anybody have an old compiled version? Thanks Paul Davis Sr. Business Development Manager CONNX Solutions - www.connx.com<http://www.connx.com/> Direct - (425) 519-6670 Mobile - (425) 269-3956

Looking for compiled version 1.9 of Samba - revised
Much thanks to all respondents. Since 1.9 is a very old version, I have the source code but am looking (close to begging) for someone who has a compiler to create an executable for me. I would be glad to send along the source , if you could compile and return an executable. This is the better request than to ask someone for their compiler. Thank you Paul Davis Sr. Business Development Manager

Samba and Dataflex
Dear Alexandre, this problem of data-corruption with file based databases is not a Dataflex issue, nor is it necessarily a Samba issue. The problem basically is that when an application tells windows to write data to a file, the data is normally not written directly to the file but placed in a cache. Windows then waits till it has some free time and then proceeds to write the data to the storage

samba 3 as PDC
Hi, I'm configuring samba as PDC for my network, but I'm having a few problems: 1) roaming profiles are not working, even if I've made up symbolic links in the directories, such as (for user luca): sede:/home/samba-ntprof/luca # ls -l totale 1 drwx------ 3 luca users 120 2004-11-12 17:06 . drwxrwxrwx 3 root root 72 2004-11-12 11:58 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 2004-11-12

windows program over a samba share
Hi, I don't know if this is possible, but I'd like to install a window program (in the specific JBuilder Personal) over a samba share, and then to mount a network share as a disk from windows clients, so they can use the program. Is it possible? Any idea on how to share windows programs from a linux server? Thanks, Luca -- Luca Ferrari, fluca1978@infinito.it

NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE with ldap backend
Hi all, I've configured my samba server to work with my ldap backend, the configuration of ldap is correct and in fact my users can interactively login. The problem is with samba, that is always returning a NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE when a user tries to access a share. I'm in doubt if I have to add ldap accounts through the ldap-tools of samba or not, at the moment I did not add any

(no subject)
Hi All, I'm really sad that Win2k3 server runs a lot better in a shared folder that keep a file based database that Windows 9x and WinNT clients. Explaining it better... Here in Brazil, unfortunaly we still have a lot business that is based in the old file shared database, like Dataflex, Clipper and like. Then, they need a robust and fast server to centralize that files. With Windows98

valid users and lost password on windows xp
Hi all, in my network we're using samba as a disk share for users. Each user can access users thru his unix login name and password, but sometimes I experience that Windows xp (prof.) loses the password, so it prompts the user again for the it. In particular, after a smbpasswd password change, I have one machine that, even if mounting the share as a network disk (with username and

Use case for HDF5 dataspace interface
This question is a clone of my stackoverflow question which never got answered (o_O). Therefore I am posting it here. I would really like some inputs if possible. I am currently building some applications which make use of HDF5 files. I have already taken a look at the hdfgroup website with regards to dataspace <https://support.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/doc/H5.user/Dataspaces.html> and I think I

Use case for HDF5 dataspace interface
1. What does this have to do with R? 2. If it concerns computational biology, the Bioconductor Help list may be a better place to post. Use case for HDF5 dataspace interface
1. This relates to the package *rhdf5* and its implementation of the HDF5 dataspace interface. I am asking for an example of how other people who use this package make use of the HDF5 data space interface exposed by the library. Longer answer: As per my understanding, the dataspace interface exposes data locations within a dataspace, but even while retrieving data from an hdf5 file using methods

SOLVED - Oplocks not taking place at all unless fake oplocks = yes
The kernel on my server appears to be refusing oplocks altogether. Setting 'kernel oplocks = no' resolved the issue. Is there any caveats I should be aware of? - Chris Wagner -----Original Message----- From: samba-bounces+chriswagner=amyskitchen.net@lists.samba.org [mailto:samba-bounces+chriswagner=amyskitchen.net@lists.samba.org]On Behalf Of Chris Wagner Sent: Wednesday, July 05, 2006
