Roaming Profiles only for Admin?
Hi all, I am currently fighting with roaming user profiles which shall be stored on an Ubuntu 8.04 Xeon (64 bit) box. I'm running the stock Ubuntu packages (version 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4). The Ubuntu box runs as PDC with a LDAP backend. Adding a Win 2000 SP4 workstation to the domain works flawlessly. If I log on on the workstation with a root-like account (UNIX user id 0, UNIX

migrating Samba PDC to a new server
Hi, I'd like to migrate Samba 3.0.24-6etch10 PDC running on a Debian server to a new Ubuntu server. I plan to install Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4 on the new server and then copy the files in /etc/samba and /var/lib/samba and copy the related Linux users in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. Will it work? Thanks in advance! ----- -- Kent Tong Wicket tutorials freely available at

Setting (exposing) FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE for a share
Hi all, Back in 2002 I opened a discussion on the samba-technical mailing list regarding the WinNT FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE ( http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2002-April/020969.html). Meanwhile some FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE handling was implemented in the 'trunk' Samba. Currently (Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4) provides the 'dmapi support' option for representing the

0.99.10.x auth memory leak?
Hello, running 0.99.10.6 (but seen it before that, too). Also (quite obviously) running 5 auth processes, given the fact that this is a pretty busy box and I didn't want to introduce any artificial bottlenecks. Alas with them eating up half of the free memory (which would go to a much better use as FS cache) I'm getting sorta concerned. If it's not a leak, it's caching something

[PATCH] ptr_ring: Add barriers to fix NULL-pointer exception
While running a multiple VM testscase with each VM running iperf traffic between others the following kernel NULL pointer exception was seen. Race appears when the tun driver instance of one VM calls skb_array_produce (from tun_net_xmit) and the the destined VM's skb_array_consume (from tun_ring_recv), which could run concurrently on another core. Due to which the sock_wfree gets called again

prevent runaway PID taking down server (RAM/swap)
Is there a way I can prevent processes from taking up all the ram then swap until the box crashes/freezes? I'm using IEs4Linux and the wineserver seems to start taking up RAM until my box dies, it happens slowly. I am able to kill the sucker now, but I'd like to not have to worry about that. sar -r 01:00:01 PM kbmemfree kbmemused %memused kbbuffers kbcached kbswpfree kbswpused

ZFS Index corruption and Connection reset by peer
Hello, I'm currently using dovecot 1.2.11 on FreeBSD 8.0 with ZFS filesystems. So far, so good, it works quite nicely, but I have a couple glitches. Each user has his own zfs partition, mounted on /home/<user> (easier to set per user quotas) and mail is stored in their home. From day one, when people check their mail via imap, a lot of indexes corruption occured : dovecot:

Cannot change SID on NTUSER.DAT file
Hi. I have just changed to the latest version of samba on a CentOS 5.4 machine as I now have Win7 computers in the domain. [root] #>smbd -V Version 3.5.4-0.83.el5_7.2 On the old version (I think 3.0.29) I was able to change the SID on any NTUDER.DAT file happily. Now I cannot change SID on any NTUSER.DAT file. However, I can log into the domain using the username that is attached to the
