Samba 3.2.0-pre3 packages in Debian - version of Samba in Debian lenny
The day after Karolin announced the release of 3.2.0-pre3, the Debian
packaging team was able to upload .deb packages for it in Debian
*experimental*.
To use them, you need to already use Debian testing or unstable, then
add this to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free

Samba 3.5.2 packages for Debian lenny
(please note that this mail is crossposted to 3 lists. No need to CC
me to answers, I read the 3 of them...)
Some users (including me with my professionnal hat) want to use 3.5
versions of samba on production servers running Debian. Of course,
most of the time, these production servers are running Debian lenny
(the stable version of the distribution).
Debian lenny ships with samba 3.2.5, so

tail and head drop qdiscs
I think that there are no qdiscs that permit to drop the oldest
frame of a queue when this queue is full, but I would like to
be wrong:
bfifo drops arriving frames when the max queue length is reached.
red also drops arriving frames in a more elaborate fashion, with
a drop probability that increases above a limit and becomes
a drop certitude when the max queue length is reached.

SFQ with Per Flow Caps
I''d like to implement something like SFQ, but with a cap of a rate per
flow. Essentially, I''d like to be able to limit citrix connections to
30KBps without having an overall traffic flow cap for all citrix
connections. Slightly preferable to this would be something that would
actually work per flow instead of the stochastic algorithm.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
Bill

Screening packets within tc-classes
Hello list,
I''m currently a bit planless so perhaps someone here could give me a point in
the right direction.
History: I wrote a shaper web tool (http://shaper.netshadow.at) and now got
several feature requests if it would be possible to graph "what''s going on"
(this mean per IP address, tcp/udp ports or protocols) in a specific chain. A
chain represents a specific

htb vs hsfc
HTB versus HFSC, both qdisc offer the same kind of service,
if you want to see comparative test results, go to
http://www.rawsoft.org
at the line "TEST RESULTS" you will find the results for
a sharing test and a burst test.
You will see that both qdisc are good.

oplocks and samba 2.2.7
About two months ago our sysadmin upgraded to samba 2.2.7 and we have not
had any oplock problems since.
A heartfelt thanks from the University of Wisconsin in Madison to the Samba
team for all their hard work.
If our hundreds of users understood what was going on behind the scenes,
they'd be thanking you too.

inspecting what''s going in a class
Well, things seem to be going really well with tbf, prio and sfq. But
I''m a nosey bugger. :-) I''d love to be able to audit what''s going
through each of the prio bands.
The super ideal solution would be to be able to attach tcpdump to each
band and see what''s going through it with the benefit of tcpdump''s
filtering so that I can examine and filter

Samba 3.2, Samba 3.3 release planning
Hi,
i visited wiki.samba.org and read the "Release Planning for Samba 3.2"
information and the "Release Planning for Samba 3.3" information.
So my question is:
Is samba 3.2 development stopped and all concentration given to Samba
3.3 ? Because there isnt any further release note available for 3.2, but
instead there are some notes for 3.3 ?
Bye and thanks for your

cifs-utils 4.1 in Debian lenny backports
(this mail is crossposted to 4 mailing lists, some of which being
subscribers-only. Please consider this when answering if you need to)
Let's see this as my first achievement of SambaXP
(http://www.sambaxp.org).
An "official" backport of cifs-utils
(http://www.samba.org/linux-cifs/cifs-utils/) is now available for
users of Debian lenny.
This package can be found on backports.org,

QDISC SPY monitors udp/tcp connections
Hello,
The qdisc spy has evolved, the new version can spy on udp and tcp
connections, the results are displayed upon command. There is no gui
for this tool yet, but I will try to make one.
If you want to try: http://rawsoft.org

qdisc monitoring
Hello,
I am interrested in the monitoring of the qos qdiscs parameters such as size
of the queue, enqueues, dequeues, delay in queue, I made a tool to have
those
results availlable at http://rawsoft.org, but it will probably not work
anymore
because of the kernel evolutions (the file sch_red.c is patched for the
tool to work).
I would like to have all the necessary data coming from the kernel

syslog only broken on 3.2.0 (debian lenny)?
I can't really imagine syslog only is broken, otherwise other people
would have complained about this already. I am using syslog-ng, and
other daemon facility messages get routed to /var/log/daemon.log - but
I get absolutely no samba messages - to any log except the default
samba logs.
lines from smb.conf:
syslog only = yes
syslog = 3

Well, if this is reproducible safely and downgrading to samba 3.0.24
removes the bug, I'd suggest reporting this in the Debian BTS, along
with your smb.conf file, as many details as possible about your setup
and the level 10 log file you mentioned.
We'll investigate this and, if necessary, pass it

Issues with default ACLs in created objects not including parent's owner: old bug or setup issue?
I have recurrent issue with ACLs on a server that's running samba
3.2.15 (this is a Debian lenny server and we're not ready, yet, to
upgrade it...we just upgraded samba from 3.2.5 to 3.2.15+security fixes).
If a "foo" directory, owned by "joe", has "joe and "jim" authorized to
write to it through the filesystem's ACLs (and both in "foo"

Logon scripts not executed when NT4 trusted domain users log in a S3-controlled domain
I'm currently building a Samba3-based domain (DomA) that has a trust
relationship with an existing production NT4 domain (DomB).
DomA uses an LDAP backend. The LDAP server is local on the PDC and is
dedicated to such use. DomA runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian 6.0.
DomB is an old-timer: NT4 domain that's running for ages.
The trust relationship has been established: DomA trusts DomB.

Samba 3.4.0 in Debian unstable
Quoting Karolin:

As of yesterday, Samba 3.4.0 is now available in Debian unstable. It
means that the next release of Debian (codename "squeeze", due
out...when it's ready, probably around the end of 2010) will have at
least this version.
