blastwave.rb patch
The original blastwave.rb would store "no pkg-get in /usr/sbin /usr/
bin" into @@pkgget if pkg-get is not found in the PATH.
The patch below modifies blastwave.rb to store the first matching
binary in the user''s PATH, or if not found, check the default
location (puppetd''s PATH may not be sane) and if still not present
and executable, correctly store as nil.

problem joining WinXP machine to samba PDC+LDAP environment
Hello,
I can't join a winxp box to my samba domain. I just have one samba
server, meant to act as a PDC for domain='CHI'.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot and/or remedy?
Thanks,
Jon
Context:

smbldap-tools v0.9.6.
I 'populated' the ldap with 'smbldap-populate'.

Can't get ldap passwd sync = only to send password request to ldap server
Ok, this one is driving me nuts. I am using smbk5pwd to sync samba,
ldap, and heimdal kerberos passwords.
I have the overlay working if called from the ldappasswd command.
However, if I set "ldap passwd sync = only", I get no joy from Samba.
It does a series of searches, but doesn't send any kind of password
update request to the server.
If I use ldap passwd sync = yes, then

password sync "Failed to open/create TDB passwd" - some progress
I made a little progress. It is partly a file permissions error.
If I change the permission of /usr/local/samba/private to 660. Since
the unix Administrator (ie. Windows Domain Administrator) is in the
sysadmin group, this gives it read-write permissions to this file.
Under windows, as the Domain Administrator, I can now change account
properties such as "password never expires."

ZFS filesystem size mismatch
A ZFS file system reports 1007GB beeing used (df -h / zfs list). When doing a ''du -sh'' on the filesystem root, I only get appr. 300GB which is the correct size.
The file system became full during Christmas and I increased the quota from 1 to 1.5 to 2TB and then decreased to 1.5TB. No reservations. Files and processes that filled up the file systems have been removed/stopped.

primary GID based access for user in 16 supplementary groups
We observe a difference between a Windows 7 client and Windows 2003/XP client when accessing directories that should be accessible via the UNIX accounts primary group GID. Windows client refuses access.
Ignoring for now why the two different client behaviours (either some subtle difference in the requests or the way the Samba reply is dealt with) the question is what should be the correct

Joining domain works - logging in doesn't
I'm building a replacement samba 3.5.6 domain controller to replace an
old 3.0 one. Some other things are changing too. Our user accounts are
now in LDAP rather than flat files (although the machine trust accounts
will remain in a flat file), but that should be hidden from samba as
it's going to be done through NSS. The smbpasswd file is a TDB file and
will remain so. Our users

We have a rfs6000 wifi model controller from Extreme Network that has the
ability to become a member of the AD. When we configure it according to
Extreme support, the error "NT_STATUS_LOGIN_FAILURE" on the controller and

share connection dropped after 10 minutes
Hello everybody,
I have to face a problem here with a samba share disconnecting after
about 10 minutes.
Situation:
- debian woody, samba 3.0.14a
- server configured as PDC
- typically 100-150 smbd processes running
everything runs smoothly but one client (W2K SP4) that obviously needs a
quasi static connection to the PDC.
The client runs a software that stores regularly data on a dedicated

winbindd not providing supplementary groups with server 2003 AD
I have Windows server 2003 AD controller and Samba 3 (3.5.11 or 3.6.3)
member server running on FreeBSD 8.2/9.0. I don't use MS Services for
Unix and my setup relies on Winbindd for idmapping. I can see all users
/ groups with wbinfo -g, wbinfo -u, getent group, getent passwd. I can
see all user's group with id <username>.
I had to solve more complicated tasks including ACLs and

Phone multi-registration
Hi,
I'm working with a SIP phone (Thomson ST2030) that support a
"multi-registration" feature.
It works this way:
- the phone has a main id
- some feature keys can be configured to be tied to supplementary ids (with
a specific id username and password)
- when the phone boots, it will successively (try to) register with each id
(main and supplementary ids).
- every outgoing call uses

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
Hi Daryl,

bad password lockout works fine in Samba AD mode. Is there a technical
reason for you to keep on using PDC NT4 mode? In AD mode, you'll also
get a LDAP, and it will be much easier to setup and manage!

Debugging a groups permission problem
Hello samba list,
I've run into a rather strange problem at one of our deployments, and
after trying a few ideas myself are turning to you to see if you have
any suggestions for my next step.
The problem: We're currently running samba 3.5.6 as a file server joined
to an active directory. We set up acls that say group "foo" has r/w access
to a directory. A user "userA"
