"DNS update failed" during ads join
I received the warning "DNS updated failed!" during net join. Is this
an important warning? Will there be problems?
Immediately after the join, clients using smbclient were able to
authenticate and access shares on this server - even though "net ads
testjoin" complained about kerberos problems.

printer drivers - Add Printer Wizard disabled
I'm following along in the guide, trying to make printer drivers
available from Samba. But when I right-click on a printer in Windows
XP and select the "properties" tab, it's disabled:

So how do I enable this so the client can upload the drivers? So far I

Samba4 and Windows 7 password change
Hi, all,
With the latest Samba4, I am not able to change a user's password via
Windows 7.
I was able to successfully set a password from within RSAT's Users while
adding a new user, but that user cannot change his own password.
When I try, Windows 7 tells me that the server rejected the password
change because the new password doesn't meet the complexity/length
requirements.

password synchronization.
Hello,
I'm running samba 2.2 on FreeBSD 4.4. I was wondering if there was a
way to sync up the samba and FreeBSD user passwords so that when either
via the unix passwd or samba's smbpasswd program a user changes a
password it is changed through both systems? If anyone is dong this
successfully please let me know.
Thanks.
Dave.

Google Cloud Directory Service password synchronization for AD DC
Hi Justin,
Thank you for your answer, I had found this utility during my searches, and
will probably try it. As you say, reversible + plaintext is far for optimal
from a security point of view.
Also, I would like to integrate the solution in a "packaged" distribution
like for example Zentyal or UCS.
But I'm happy to learn that this solution is viable, I wouldn't lose my

Clarifying different password systems
I'm running samba 3.0.14a-6 on Debian GNU/Linux 2.4. I believe that I
should be using pdbedit to add or modify users and their passwords,
but I want to double-check that. I'd also like to suggest the
documentation could be clearer.
I had earlier versions installed, and the upgraded seems to have
migrated me to the new password scheme. smb.conf has "passdb backend =

kpasswd_samdb_set_password: domain\user (S-...) is changing password of user@domain
Hi All,
I'm prepping for a classicupgrade and noticed that if I set log level = 5,
I get a log like this when we update a password for a user:
*kpasswd_samdb_set_password: DOMAIN\username(S--x-x-x-xxx-xxx-xxxx) is
changing password of username at domain*
I can't seem to figure out what debug class I need to enable to still get
this alert, but still set my default logging to 1.
Thanks

How to set password on Samba4 using phpldapadmin?
Hi, I am running Samba version Version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-b53c5bc. Everything is
working fine in terms of basic AD functionality. Windows machines are able
to join domain.
I'm able to set user password using samba-tool. However I would like to use
phpldapadmin to set password.
In the password field (while using phpldapadmin) I see several options like
md5 etc. Which option should I select? I tried

DNS zone transfer
Sorry to ask, here Bind is configured to not allow zone transfer except for
some IPs. I did tried to transfer AD zone from a machine which is not
allowed to transfer zones according to Bind configuration file, and that
machine was able to transfer what it should not...
Is there other points where Bind configuration file are useless? Is
documented somewhere? This to avoid relying on Bind

Newbie Looking For Login/Password
Sorry for such a silly question but I am VERY new to Linux, Asterisk,
and so forth. I just downloaded and burned the AsteriskNOW ISO to CD
and installed it. Everything went great. I removed the CD and
rebooted and there is a prompt for me to login.
I hate to ask but after searching for a few hours, what on earth is
the initial login and the password?!? And, please, where is this

nis password file -> smbpasswd?
ive got several hundred user accounts in NIS that i need to get into the
smbpasswd file. since samba doesn't actually use NIS, but can only be in
sync with it, what is the best way to get all these passwords into
smbpaswd? I'd hate to have to have all users re-enter their passwords...
anyone done this before? thanks in advance,
alex

Samba-2.2.0alpha-2 (interesting behavior)
Hello,
I am running Samba-2.2.0alpha-2 on a OpenLinux 2.3 (Caldera)
system, and I was wondering if this error message is NORMAL behavior
for a NT Server share mounted with the following command:
//inet_server_1/C /mnt/server1 -o username=xxxxxxxx,password=xxxxxx,ip=x.x.x.2
here is what is in /var/log/messages:

Do we need WINS Replication?
We have 2 segments of the corporate network,
which are connected by a unstable(~90% uptime) 2Mbps link.
This link cannot be made better.
So, we are to use 2 WINS servers(both Samba 2.2.8a) - one server in one segment.
However, if 2 clients register on 2 different WINS servers,
they can't mount network drives of each other.
I've tried to use the WINS servers as primary and secondary

kpasswd_samdb_set_password: domain\user (S-...) is changing password of user@domain
I have dsdb_password_audit:5 & dsdb_password_json_audit:5 enabled, but I
don't get the message I included.
I instead get an audit log that a password was changed...but not by who.
Was hoping to get more info in a single log entry, so I can track who on my
staff is doing password resets and setup email alerts via my logging system.
