PAM session trouble
I am using PAM and pam_smbpass.so with Samba 2.999 (Debian sid package). If, in /etc/pam.d/samba, I set session required pam_smbpass.so then login fails, and the log says: [2002/08/04 15:43:26, 0] auth/pampass.c:smb_pam_error_handler(73) smb_pam_error_handler: PAM: session setup failed : Module is unknown [2002/08/04 15:43:26, 1] smbd/session.c:session_claim(103) pam_session

Debugging samba/winbind SMB share
Hi, I had an active-directory authentication based samba system up and running, working well. However, I tried to access an SMB share on the server a few days back and just get a windows login user/password prompt. I'm trying to debug why theres a "system error". PAM is configured for pam_winbind.so in /etc/pam.d/system-auth, and I can ssh into the system using a domain

Authentication issue?
I have a centos box using kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp that had a samba server running very nicely until 2 days ago. Out of the blue, users can't access any shares. We have 5 users and 6 shares, one of which is an MS access database that gets the most use. I thought the smbpasswd database may be corrupt so I replaced it with a backup, but no go. I deleted the smbpasswd database, re-added

Upgrade 3.0.10 to 3.0.24 on RHEL4 - NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
Hi all, I'm having a problem with an upgrade of Samba running on a Redhat4 Update 4 system. The default installation provides only 3.0.10 which doesn't include the privilege model or a number of fixes including some in 3.0.21a and 3.0.23 which it looks like we'll need. The system runs in PDC mode with user accounts in an ldap database. On a test system which I'm using to

Samba - Winbind problem : session setup failed : System error
Hello, I'm using Samba 2.2.7a on RedHat 9.0. I'm trying to set-up universal logons between a Samba Server and a W2K SP3 DC, which has restrictanonymous=1. I followed the procedure as described at http://ftp.easynet.be/samba/docs/man/winbind.html - I managed to join the Samba server (MYSAMBASRV) to the domain (MYDOMAIN) - I used wbinfo with the -A switch to store the credentials of a

'passwd chat' for Debian Woody password sync
what is the 'passwd chat' line for Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on Debian Woody that enables password synchronisation with Windows 2000 clients in a domain? I currently have this in smb.conf but it doesn't work: unix password sync = yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n I get the Windows message

"conversion error" and NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE - more info
Hi again, as I am finally back working on the problem, I add the smb.conf in the hope somebody can see what I am doing wrong. Samba Version is 3.0.14a from Debian Sarge. Attached is my smb.conf - there may be some unnecessary things in it meanwhile due to too much trying, but anyways. Meanwhile there are some more clients that have problems with password authentication. One thing I noticed is

Migration from Samba 2.2 to Samba 3.020b
Hello, we migrate from Samba 2.2 to Samba 3.020b. We have the problem now, that some clients can not connect to the Samba Server. In the log there are messages like that: [2006/02/23 08:49:20, 2] smbd/sesssetup.c:setup_new_vc_session(704) setup_new_vc_session: New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would close all old resources. NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP when attempting to connect
Hi, I'm attempting to get my server set up to share out files using Active Directory authentication. I also have winbind set up for shell logins to the server. That part works fine, but when I attempt to connect to a samba share with smbclient, I get rejected with "session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE". I did some searching and found others with similar issues, and I

user authentification error with new samba version
from samba 3.0.9 to 3.0.13 I can not access my shares from a NT4 box as usual before upgrading. I can access samba shares from linux via mount //server/testuser /mnt -o username=testuser, password=testpass as before. Even the newest version (3.0.14a) from samba.org doesnt't help. What has happened to samba ??? Any hints ?? Thanks for your thoughts, G?tz.

Samba authentication slow after upgrade to Samba 3
Hi, I have just upgraded a server from Samba 2 to Samba 3 and some of the Windows clients are taking a long time to authenticate shares (1 or 2 minutes). Eventually the username/password box appears and then when you enter a correct password, all is fine - it is just the initial authentication. This is a simple UNIX password Samba server (with NIS) and I have set it to not use encrypted

Authentication problem with samba 3.3.4 on AIX 5.3
Hello all, we currently do have a problem with samba 3.3.4 on AIX 5.3. We have set up the samba system to integrate in our AD Domain. Integration was successfull (net ads join), wbinfo executes with parameters -ugt without any problems. Our smb.conf content follows at the end of this mail. We have defined just one share as follows: [smbtest] writeable = yes path = /gpfs/fbb/ls/cip valid users
