weird Windows profile creation
It seems weird. On 75% of my machines, it creates accounts as:
c:\documents and settings\username
on 25% of the machines, it creates them as:
c:\docments and settings\username.DOMAINNAME
These are fresh machines, so it's unclear to me where this behavior
stems from. We're not using roaming profiles.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens?
thanks

restoring roaming profiles
I'm running Version 4.1.17-Debian as a DC on a Debian/Jessie AMD64 system.
After rebuilding a domain with slightly different settings, roaming
profiles stopped working.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_roaming_profiles contains
a suggestion (see Troubleshooting roaming profiles) that gets them
working again - deleting the user subkey from

more smbd CPU mystery
Well I have determined that everytime someone logs in/logs out
of a windows box in our lab *ALL* of the files in "My Directory"
are copied from/to the file server to the local client. Needless to
say this is retarded and needs to stop. The local sys admin needs
to perform some windows voodoo to redirect this directory.
Still this brings the mystery as to why smbd would take up so
much

films on Desktops and roaming profiles
Hi,
I'd like to ask you what do you limit Desktops syncing in case users
put large files on them, e.g. films.
Downloading / uploading such large files can generate lots of
unnecessary traffic. Is there any kind of filtering possible ?
Other solutions ?
Cheers,

How to copy roaming profiles to new server ? ("Group policy client service failed. The logon access is denied")
Dear all,
We have perfectly working roaming profiles on Samba 3.3.10 (SuSE) with
Windows 7 clients. We configured our new server with same domain name,
Samba 4.1.11 (Debian).
On the new server, for newly created profiles, it works perfectly, we
can login, logout, profiles are created and saved. But if we want to
copy an existing profile from current server to the new one, it's

file creation mode is not obeyed
Samba 3.0.26a
OpenSuse 10.3
In samba.conf the default file creation mode is set to 775 (group write).
This mode is not followed or established when a domain user creates a file.
It is not group writable.

Question "Access Denied"
It seems that people all across the net have had issues with the particular
error of "Access Denied" when an XP user attempts to join a domain - but no
readily available answers are given.
What might be causing this error? I'm using an Ubuntu 8.04 server with all
the defaults for the Samba server installation.

I've setup file server for my client with these schemes :
1. Samba server is on CentOS box
2. Every user has their Unix accounts
3. Every Unix accounts have their mapped Samba users/accounts with same name
4. They can get access to some shares, eg :
[Accounting]
path = /public/accounting
valid users = alexander, bernard, charlie, david, eugene

Problem with network drives
Hi,
I have a Windows Xp station where a network drive is mapped. The
username and password for this network drive are the same as those of my
Windows session.
I want to access to another share on this server with another name and
login than those of the mapped network drive. When I try to access to
this share it tries with the username and password from my Windows
session. I can see it in the
