samba browsing through subnets with different nethoods
Hi everybody
I installed 2 subnets, one with a samba PDC fully functional and the other with just
one linux client (called CLIENTE) with samba running a basic configuration.
Subnet 1 has a samba PDC called BAR (domain FOOBAR with ip 192.168.1.1) that is also the wins
server for both subnets and the domain master browser for 192.168.1.0/24

domain_master_node_status_fail
I'm trying to set up Windows browsing between subnets. I've set up a domain
master/WINS server on the .0 subnet, and local masters on the .42 and .254
subnets, and I'm running into the above error on one - just one - of the
subnets. The strange thing is that I'm running exactly the same version of
RHEL on another subnet - and I'm getting no error.

Weird Samba Browsing Problem
If anyone can help me with this problem I'd appreciate it. I've searched
the archive and not found anything that looks like the same problem.
I have a FreeBSD4.6 machine running Samba 2.2.5 our of the FreeBSD ports
collection. This machine is acting as a PDC for a domain called labs. The
machine is configured as the Domain Master browser and Local Master
browser. We also have some

problems with samba as pdc.
This is a really weird one. To the ( XP Pro ) client, I can join the domain, but can never log in. I've looked all over for a troubleshooting guide, but none have found the problem.
Help!!!
System: samba 3.3.4 on 64 bit debian lenny patched to current. Gigabit lan environment.
When Joining the domain ( over an openvpn connection ), the client log shows:

cannot bind when doing a browser sync
I hope this isn't too long, and I hope it's the correct list.
I have a network configuration where I have 2 hosts, A and B. Each has
a local LAN on which the run Samba, plus they're connected by a VPN. So
has A has addresses lanA and wanA, and host B has addresses lanB and
wanB. Because of the way the VPN works, they can talk to each other
either via their LAN addresses (lanA

Browsing Problems
Hello.
I've got a Samba server and I'd like it to be master browser and
everything else except domain controller (the customers wants a
workgroup, not a domain).
Lately a Windows 2003 server was added to the net and then I guess it
was removed.
I keep getting messages like the following in the logs:

Retain last grouping after a strsplit()
All -
I have a column of SiteNames:
SiteName
OYS-PIA2-FL-1
OYS-PIA2-LA-1
OYS-PI-LA-BB-1
OYS-PIA2-LA-10
...
[truncated]
and I want to include only the last few digits into a new column.
I tried
substr(data$SiteName, 13, 20)
but because some SiteName values are of a different length, the final
hyphen (i.e., "-") was included:
"1"
"1"
"-1"
"10"

Samba BDC in the same subnet not getting connection requests
Hi,
I have a Samba 3 PDC running with around 20 Windows XP/2K clients. The
PDC and the clients are in different subnets. I recently decided to add
a Samba 3 BDC in the same subnet as the clients, to give some failover
and also to reduce across-switch traffic.
After creating the BDC, I restarted one of the clients but don't see it
establishing connection with the BDC, instead it connects as

Samba / Vista Problem
I have a problem - I am trying to set up shared folders on a Debian etch
machine, and then access them from a bunch of Vista Business machines.
I set up a very basic smb.conf, and when I request the hostname of the
Linux machine, I am prompted for a username and password. I enter them,
and I see the shares that I expect to see. If I attempt to create a new
folder, however, I get the following

Problem with `profiles`
I'm trying to move some roaming profiles from Domain A to B. All of the
profiles are from XP SP3. The originating machine is Debian 5/AMD64, samba
3.4.5 from Debian packages. The destination machine is Ubuntu 9.10, but x86.
From everything I've read and found online, `profiles` is supposed to work for
XP with no problems. When I attempt to do a SID change on NTUSER.DAT, I get

ACL misbehavior moving from POSIX ACL -> acl_xattr
List,
I had Samba 3.0 running on Debian Lenny configured to use POSIX ACLs on ext3.
They worked fine, or at least as fine as NT -> POSIX mapping ever did. After
testing 3.3 with acl_xattr on using a different machine, I decided to give it a
whirl on the production server. And yes, I know it's experimental.
I defined a share thusly:

I'm using Debian Sarge, Samba (3.1.14a) with the ldapsam backend, and
OpenLDAP (2.2.23).
When attempting to join an Windows XP+SP2 computer (BILLGATES) to my

windows: 'Access denied.'
The logs (attached) seem to indicate that the user Administrator is
being authenticated (which would have? to use LDAP), but when It

A make problem with Samba 2.2.4
Hi,
I've downloaded Samba 2.2.4 today and attempted to install it on our Compaq

produces a few serious looking warnings. I've captured both "./configure"
and "make" to the attached text file.
