Error when trying to print with point and print installed drivers
I have an Ubuntu Sever 9.10 setup running Samba as a PDC for a bunch of
Windows clients.
Everything is functioning perfectly except for the point and print delivery
of printer drivers.
I have tested this with Ubuntu 9.10's Samba (3.4.0) and two of the Debian
Samba packages (3.4.3 and 3.4.5). All seem to demonstrate the same problem.

Vanishing options in hp printer drivers
We're using a couple of HP printers (2200, 4200, 3390) using the HP PCL
6 printer driver.
Printer drivers are installed on the samba (3.0.24) box, connecting,
driver installation and printing work OK.
Problem: using the same driver version with the printer shared by a
windows box gives some additional options like
- brochure printing
- putting serveral pages on one sheet
Any Idea why

Automatic printer drivers for Windows clients do not work
Hi All,
My problem is that when I "connect" a printer by right-clicking it on \\smbhost\printers (on a Windows client), it seems to install the printer fine (without error), but I can't print (it seems to print, no error message or so, but it never makes it to the printer).
I was able to install the printer drivers both via the Windows GUI (wizard) and via rpcclient (please see

PDF printer and wiidows driver auto-download.
Hello =)
I got some problem configuring a pdf printer and make windows
to download automagically drivers from [print$] share on my
samba 3.0.1 server.
Well, I've configured a pdf printer (based on this doc:
http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue72/bright.html), tested it
and it works pretty well =)
To install the printer on windows side, I connect to the host,
browse to samba server, right-click

No joy adding a CUPS printer
I'm trying to change my Samba setup from LPD to CUPS, with little
success. I've followed [and re-followed] the setup documentation
from CUPS and I just can't get Samba to recognize my printer.
The catch is - it sort of recognizes it :-(
First I added these lines to my smb.conf:

Can't load GDI from background service
I am running a win32 application that has a graphics and command line mode; I use the command line mode. When I login and run from a terminal, it works fine under Wine, but when I run it as a service via a script in /etc/init.d, it fails. I have it set up so the service runs as my account, not root.
It gives the following messages:

Sharing GDI printers
Hi guys,
Can someone explain why sharing a GDI printer (think Laserjet
1000/1005/1020 for example) is so unreliable? I'm not moaning about
Samba - I just want to understand.
I have seen this several times. I get the printer working fine under
Linux, then print to it through Samba, also fine. But then I get a call
a day later "we can't print" and when I get there the printer

GDI and MSCMS Color Management Patch
I've made some kind of patch for wine:
http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/275963/dlls-tar-gz.html
this tar includes two edited files from wine's dlls directory.
It repairs problems with displaying images with enabled color management created by gdi and mscms, for example in Pentax Photo Laboratory or SilkyPix Developer Studio. My information about this problem and previous solution

err:local:LOCAL_GetBlock not enough space in GDI heap
Hello,
I've wrote a program in win32 that does some drawing. After running it
for a while it stops drawing the colors for the shapes I draw using GDI
functions and it throws multiple time this error:
err:local:LOCAL_GetBlock not enough space in GDI heap 10bf for 36 bytes
The WM_PAINT message looks like this:

Programs using GDI and timers...
Does anyone know how to get programs using GDI and timers to update the
display to work smoothly? I am using DeLorme street atlas on wine 20041108,
and the real-time update of the screen does not work. The program seems to
talk properly to the GPS, the data comes back, but the screen does not track
when the GPS is moved. If I click on a button forcing the screen to update,
the GPS is

VP3/QT: Fix for QuickTime 6 GDI bug
QuickTime 6 for Windows breaks the VP3 codec quite severely--if you turn on "Safe Mode" (which forces QuickTime to draw through GDI), you'll see a white or black screen instead of video. This is logged as bug #2111990 in Apple's QuickTime feedback system. The fix is a classic one-liner, although it took me a long time to figure it out. :-/
