sid_to_uid/public share problem
I've got a public share that any user is supposed to be able to access. But no
matter who I try to connect as, I get the dreaded: "NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER".
Important info: Samba version: 3.0.28a, OS: Kubuntu 8.04
Looking at the logs, I think the problem is here:
auth/auth_util.c:create_token_from_username(1116)

XP SP2 offline files sync delay (again)
I'm running Samba 3.0.7 on Mandrakelinux 9.2 as a PDC, with a few shares
from the PDC and more on a separate Mandrakelinux 10.0 member file
server, also running Samba 3.0.7. The passdb backend is LDAP and
clients are all Windows XP Professional SP1. Except for the below,
everything works great!
We make heavy use of offline files, and with Windows XP SP1, all is
well. However, when I

win xp sp2 + samba 3.0.4
I have samba 3.0.4 acting as a local master browser and couple of win
xp sp1, sp2, win 9x client machines. Everything works fine excepts
win xp sp2. It just disappears from network neighborehood in about 15-20 minutes
after start. stop/starting "Server" system service on this machine
solves problem for next 15-20 mins. %) What can be done about it?
Is there any sence to upgrade samba to

Slow Printing from XP clients with SP2?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
>From an XP machine printing to a SAMBA printer, printing is painfully slow.
Selecting the printer, and even sending the job through windows makes the app
appear non-responsive. The print job is completed fine, but just takes a long time
to print.
XP boxes with SP1 print like a dream. I've managed to replicate this on 4 boxes

XP SP2 connecting to 3.0.10-1.4E
I have been running our companies XP Pro systems on our Samba domain
controller (version: 3.0.10-1.4E) with local administrative rights up to
this point. Everything has worked fine.
We are getting larger now and I'd like to make the logins locally
restricted (I want them to have XP's "Users" rights and "Remote Desktop
Users" only). When I restrict the accounts

write performance of Win xpp sp2
Gentlemen,
I have noticed (!) an unbelievable drop in performance with
Windows xp pro sp2 systems, compared to sp1. The performance
I have noticed is 122 seconds to write 65,000 indexed records
to a dBase type file under sp2 and the same job in sp1 is
7 seconds!! I can't believe that this is a 'normal' feature
of Windows sp2 software when working with Samba. Is it possible that

Strange intermittent join with XP SP2 and Samba 3.0.14a
Hi all!
I'm a system administrator for a company that uses Samba (the latest,

XP SP2 and slow logins/offline files sync: RPC changes?
I posted a while back (twice, actually), about some long delays with
offline files sync and, to a lesser extent, domain logins with Windows
XP SP2.
This is Samba 3.0.7 (ldapsam backend) on Mandrakelinux 9.2 and 10.0,
with XP SP1 clients. I make use of WINS and everything works fine for
SP1 clients.
Here's what I found since then: after the client is joined to the Samba
(NT) domain,

Samba 3.0.7, WinXP Pro SP2 printing issues with netbiosnames.
Hi
We're currently experiencing some problems that wasn't a problem in 3.0.4.
Since SP2 was installed printers get connected \\<ipaddress>\<printer-name>
instead of \\<netbios-name>\<printer-name>. It's more common on SP2
machines but it happens on non-SP2 machines.
Although these issues are not consistent.
Which some windows applications seems to have a

Slow printing on Windows XP SP2 -- no solution?
I browsed through some posts about this issue which I've been struggling with
for a long time now. Why is there no solution?
I think this issue has been discussed so many times (with no final solution)
that I don't need to rewrite the symptoms and logs. Printer HP LaserJet 1100
with latest HP drivers. Smb 3.0.7 (also tried 3.0.12pre with no difference in
printing time).

Windows XP SP2, Azureus, and Samba
Trying again.
Has anyone seen this issue:
I just upgraded to Windows XP SP2 and now I am having problems :(
I have Fedora Core 2 with the latest updates installed. The Samba RPM
version is 3.0.3-5.
The problem I am having is using Azureus and the Samba share. Before
SP2 everything worked fine saving locally and on the Samba server.
Now, after SP2, I am getting messages like this from

Joining Dataframes
I am attempting to join several dataframes that summarize sampling effort
for different samples into one large data.frame/table.
I have looked at the merge command, but have not been clever enough to
figure out how to get it to do what I want.
A simplified example of what I am trying to do:
The dataframes I have look like this (they were generated using the table
command)

Write performance of Win XP Pro sp2 & Samba
I have a file testing program that creates, writes and indexes a file on the server from the Windows client.
On xpp sp1 the program takes 7 sec to write file and 8 sec to read the indexed file.
After telling the Firewall to go away I can get the following numbers from xpp
sp2;
29..30..45 (tested multiple times) sec to write the file
and 7..8 sec to read the file. Any ideas on why the

roaming profiles Samba 2.2.3a and W2K SP2
Hello samba-insiders,
we have a WinNT 4.0 SP5 PDC and our samba 2.2.3a is member of the domain.
The roaming profiles of our clients stored on the samba 2.2.3a server.
All seams to be perfect but clients with W2K SP2 cannot use there roaming
profiles.
---> "Access Denyed" is the W2K error message.
But if the same user loggs on on a client machine with W2K SP1 all things
are ok.

3.0.6 ? and XP SP2
I posted a while back about problems logging in via a laptop with XP SP2 on.
Today I have found some more information (i.e. something else now doesn't
work) which should help the developers identify/solve the problem.
As far as I can see this has not been on the list.
My original problem was that having installed XP SP2 & 3.0.6-1 (as a new
install) I found a laptop, which I usually log
