explorer freezes on right-clicking .exe's
I'm using samba 2.1 pre-alpha. When I right click an .exe file on the
most shares, explorer freezes, and must be killed to recover. The
problem doesn't show up on the home shares, but appears on any other
shares I create. I've experienced this problem on many different
workstations. Looking at the logs, it seems to be a problem with
oplocks; the part of the log that seems to apply is

ACI appraisal program "freezes" when accessing SAMBA shares
Hi all,
Our company uses a buggy piece of appraisal software called ACI Rapid
Report. We recently switched from Netware 3.1 to Samba 2.0.4b for
file serving, and since then have been unable to create new documents in
ACI.
Before creating a new document, ACI forms a list of all .aci files in the
"data" directory. Locally, this takes a few seconds. On Netware, it took
about a minute.

unix_convert cause of windows freeze?
Hello,
I've got an application, ACI Rapid Research for Windows, which is causing
me a ton of problems under SAMBA. When the program goes to create its own
list of valid files to work from, it ends up calling unix_convert on each
file in the directory. The problem is that unix_convert then goes and
calls name_map_mangle() twice for every file in the directory -- and I've
got 3025 files.

getent passwd not returning users/groups
I'm trying to get my CentOS 5.6 machine setup as a Active Directory
Domain Member with Windows 2008 level domain and samba 3.5. I haven't
tried this before.
I can successfully join the domain and return users using 'wbinfo -u'
and groups with 'wbinfo -g' but when I try 'getent passwd' I only get
the local users. I'm not sure what element that indicates is

Slow printing/Server authentication
I am running Samba 2.0.6 on HP-UX 10.20. I serve out print services
sitewide to a couple of hundred printers. They are networked, jet direct
connected. However, they show as local devices on the server (we
implemented BSD printing on the HP ourselves). I have up to about 600 users
utilizing this service. We use security set to server with an entry for
everyone in the password file. The

OK, I have RTFM. All the I could find.
I cannot seem to set permissions via WINXP Pro explorer. No matter what I do all I get is access denied - even if I own the file.
Samba log reveals:

Henrique are user, this user is in the list of administrators of the samba, but he is not administrator of the PDC (windows 2003).
It looks at the parameters below of smb.conf:

Set primary group of file on samba share from windows
Hi all!
I want to use 'acl group control' setting to delegate privileges to specific
administrators.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to set the primary group using windows file
permissions dialog, I can only add and remove ACL groups.
I tried to do this by removing all groups but one from Windows. This doesn't
work: the primary group has all privs removed and the extra group is

How to - Samba, winbind and Active Directory
Hi,
I finally was able to to get samba/winbind to
authenticate off W2k3 Active Directory. I seen a lot
of info on the web on how to do this but I never seem
to have one site that got me through it all. Anyway,
with all the info I gathered I was able to put it all
together, get it working and documented all the steps
I used. I'm running Redhat 4 (2.6.9-55.0.2) with
compiled Samba 3.0.25c

Samba 3 joined to samba 4 - problems with permissions on S3 server
Hi all,
I am testing samba3 joined to a samba 4 domain controller.
Most things appear to be working okay - just not printer drivers and
file permissions.
Machines can join the domain and use resources on the Samba 3 server, etc.
I can change permissions to my hearts content on the Samba4 shares, just
not Samba3.
I cannot however set any permissions on shares or add printer drivers to
the Samba

Trouble adding a service principal to keytab
Hi,
I am new to samba and Kerberos so please be gentle!
I have built a samba AD DC (v4.3.5) on Centos Linux from source and am
trying to add a service principal and generate a keytab containing the
principal. However the principal entry does not appear in the keytab.
Here's what I did:

Hi all,
I'm using the VFS sbadow_copy2 module, and I think I've hit a bug. This
config works:

comment = SambaTest
writable = yes
path = /srv/SambaTest/share
#vfs objects = shadow_copy
vfs objects = shadow_copy2

ACLs set in Windows not honored
Hi All,
I am in the process of trying to build a Samba server to replace our
aging EMC Celerra file server appliance.? The goal, ultimately, is to
build a file server on which we can migrate a file share from the
Celerra (ACL permissions and all) over to Samba, where the file share
can be exported via NFS as well as Samba, AND the permissions we see
in Linux are what we see in Windows (as well as

Samba 3.5.6 pam problems
Hi,
I've setup Samba 3.5.6 as a member server in a 2003R2 domain with a
single dc, idmapping is by rfc2307 with a tdb backend for builtin
accounts etc, I can list users and groups using wbinfo and I can
create shares and access them from the windows server, files and
folders owned by ad users show the correct user and group names so
mapping appears to be working, I can su to ad accounts but I

MeetMe 'i' option not working correctly?
I'm running 2.4.5 and app_meetme never plays conf-hasleft or
conf-hasjoined with user names. I looked at app_meetme.c, but couldn't
determine the cause. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
exten => 600,1,MeetMe(600|i) I get the following:
