Hi list, I can't make idmap talk to my LDAP server. And I haven't found an updated howto. FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
I can't get my Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7,0-BETA3) changing UNIX passwords from Windows clients (Ctrl-Alt-Del). I now have the password chat debug active and I have loglevel 100. I am not certain about the syntax in the password chat. But if I from a console try to change the password of a given user (here testuser1), I see these lines: mflserver3# /usr/bin/passwd testuser1 Changing local password

Theil decomposition
I came across the package 'ineq' that computes a variety of inequality measures (e.g. gini, theil etc). I want to compute the Theil index (racial segregation) and decompose the total into sub-components (by geog levels). I think the package doesn't report the decomposition (correct me if I'm wrong). Just wonder is that available elsewhere? K.

Theil test help
Hello, I have a series of questions that I hope will be simple to answer. Basically I would like a code to do the following so that I can compute the distribution free test for the slope of a postulated regression line (Theil test). As I am testing the null hypothesis that slope = 0 against the general alternative the slope does not equal 0, it should be pretty straight-forward. I have a data

help speeding up simple Theil regression function
Hello, I am working on a simple non-parametric (Theil) regression function and and am following Hollander and Wolfe 1999 text. I would like some help making my function faster. I have compared with pre-packaged version from "MBLM", which isnt very fast either, but it appears mine is faster with N = 1000 (see results below). I plan on running this function repeatedly, and I generally

VPN server and logon to Samba PDC
My goal is to make VPN access to our Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7.0) so that users can access there home shares from Windows clients. I have read the instructions at http://samba.org/ftp/unpacked/lorikeet/pppd/final-report.pdf, but I can't make it work. Don't know if is due to my lack of skills or has something to do with the Popop functionality in FreeBSD. Following the instructions, i made a

Theil Kendall line as fit?
I found some code to compute a Kendall-Theil slope estimate and want to add it to a scatter plot. Is there a way to make it appear like a regression fit instead of a line that extends from the edges of the plot? I would like to have the OLS appear as a dotted line and the KT a solid line but as it is the KT line is longer. -- View this message in context:

Problems with randomForest for regression
Dear list, I am trying to do a benchmark study for my case study. It is a regression problem. Among other models I use randomForest. Using the following code the result is around 0.628, and this make sense comparing with other methods. The Theil function implements Theil's U statistic. I do not present the definition of some variables because it is not important to understand my problem.

How do I hide [Homes] share?
I have setup a samba pdc for my domain and it's working fine. The users also get a network share as I would like. But when I go to the network neighborhood, I see both the users home directory but also a "Homes" share. As far as I can see, the content is the same, but I don't like that way to do it. Is there a way to only show the home directory? Best regards, Jon

CentOS 5.0 install fails every time.
Hey all, I've downloaded the latest CentOS 5.0 and the md5sums look good. I loop-back mounted the ISOs and pulled all of the RPMs out into a single dir. I have an existing PXE environment with several different distros to which I added 5.0. RPMs are served from my HTTPS server. I used the isolinux.cfg that was provided and all *looks* good. The problem is that on 4 *very* different

OS/390 openssh
Hello Steve, Hello OpenSSH-portable developers, I am building OpenSSH for our (EBCDIC-based) BS2000 mainframe operating system, and I noticed you do the same for OS/390. Because my initial ssh port was based on IBM's OSS port (ssh-1.2.2 or some such), I thought it was fair enough to help with a little co-operation; we might come up with a unified EBCDIC patch which could be contributed to

binequality - Problems with fitFunc()
binequality looks like just the package I need, specifically for obtaining Gini income coefficients for binned data. I have upgraded to the latest version of R, the latest version of RStudio, and updated all packages. Still I have a persistent problem using fitFunc(). To keep things simple, I am testing things using the example code in the binequality manual, page 6 (or, "?fitFunc").
