Samba AD client's settings transfer
Hi,
I have successfully joined my Linux box(ubuntu feisty) to Active Directory
using Samba.
Now i have installed a new Linux distro(ubuntu gutsy) and want to join it to
AD.
The problem is that it is asking for some kind-of-password when i do "net
ads testjoin".
This implies that when joining a domain, some kind of mutual identity must
have been stored
by samba. right?
The questions

Compiz starts, but no 3D effects
I just installed Compiz on Ubuntu Feisty (Gutsy does not work on my
hardware as per the release notes) via the
http://ppa.launchpad.net/amaranth/ubuntu repo, which is the repo
suggested in the compiz-fusion website. The machine is a Dell Inspiron
E1505 / 6400 with the horrible ATI X1400 graphics card and 1680x1050
monitor. I installed XGL and the proprietary ATI driver, a combination
that worked

[LLVMdev] New llvm-gcc bootstrap failure
I get the error below (and have for a couple weeks now) when trying to
build llvm-gcc on Ubuntu Feisty. In the meantime, on Ubuntu Gutsy,
everything has been building fine. Both are release builds for x86.

Wine Install and Uninstall Problems
Greetings all.
I have been running Wine under Kubuntu Feisty for about the last four months,
keeping it updated with the latest wine releases on a weekly basis, I use it
to run WordPerfect.
Whilst WordPerfect didn't run flawlessly, I got it to work well enough to edit
and save documents I work on at home. In four months none of the updates to
Wine changed anything in how WordPerfect

Vmware guest can''t connect to puppetmaster on host
My setup is as follows:
I am running Vmware Server on Ubuntu Feisty. This is the puppetmaster.
I am running a guest of Ubuntu Gutsy. This is the puppet.
When I try to run puppetd on the guest I get the expected message
"notice: Did not recieve certificate"
Going back to the server and running "puppetca --list" does not list any
requests. As a hunch I telneted the hosts

I keep encountering the following error on Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS amd64.

Interesting. Bootstrapping with gcac works!
Some tests with valgrind also work. My next try is to add some debug
code to do bounds checking in SmallVector.

Official Samba builds for Ubuntu?
Greetings-
I am wondering if anyone from the Samba team would happen to have interest in creating official builds for Ubuntu?
To add a twist, unfortunately I would not be fishing for 7.10 packages, but rather 7.04 as we ran into too many issues with 7.10 whereas 7.04 seems rock solid stable.
Or, are there packages built of Samba releases for Ubuntu external to samba.org?
Thanks,

mounting an AD share upon login
Hi everyone,
I am having trouble mounting a share on my AD server upon login.
I am using pam_mount. Here is log activity when user 'peter' logs in
(with Ubuntu client) and is authenticated by AD server. There is a
share called 'peter' on the server (netbios name WIN2003) and the mount
point is /home/PRIVATE/peter (see later for pam_mount.conf file):

Winbind 3.0.26a cannot authenticate with ActiveDirectory
I am using Ubuntu Gutsy, which comes with Winbind 3.0.26a. I am using the
same configuration that worked on Ubuntu Feisty, which uses Winbind 3.0.24.
Something changed with Winbind, apparently, to break the configuration that
was working perfectly. How can I fix my configuration to work with the new
version?
The symptoms are as follows:
wbinfo -t works
wbinfo can retrieve a list of users

R 2.6.0 packages for Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon
The latest version of R did not make it in the recently released
Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. As the title says, packages for version 2.6.0 of
R are currently making their way to the CRAN mirrors. From the head
of the README file:

R packages for Ubuntu on i386 are available. The plans are to support
at least the latest two Ubuntu releases and the latest LTS release. As

youtube.com complains about old version on 64 bit ubuntu gutsy
I read on lwn.net that swfdec has support for watching youtube.com
videos. Good work! I have not been able to get the Adobe 32-bit mozilla
plugin working under 64-bit gutsy so I figured I'd give swfdec a go.
A quick search of the archives and bugzilla turns up nothing obviously
similar to my problem.

installing debian domu
Wow... this is hard. I just installed Debian Sarge and Etch into Virtualbox, and it''s dead simple - download a regular netinstall .iso file, and use the wizard, and it all just works. On the other hand, I can''t for the life of me figure out how to get a Debian (sarge or etch) DomU up and running. All the instructions I find involve running debootstrap, which of course is only

I have updated my sources.list to point to the Feisty repos at

$ sudo R CMD javareconf

Upgrading to R 2.5.1 on Ubuntu Feisty 64
Hi there,
A new thread was started on the R list about problems to upgrade R to
version 2.5.1 and we were re-directed on this list. We are two with
exactly the same problem and the same distribution (Ubuntu Feisty 64).
We are unable to upgrade to R 2.5.1. The r-base-core package is version
2.4.1 in Ubuntu repositories while all others r-cran related packages
are upgraded to R 2.5.1
