[IDMAP AD] Strange questions on uid/gid resolution.
Dear all,
I am using Win2003 with SFU 3.5 (not R2) as domain controller. I enabled the
UNIX attributes of several users and groups. I use idmap = ad to connect to
my Win2003 box and setup the winbind / nss accordingly. wbinfo -u / -g work
fine, getent passwd / group works fine, chown works fine, id <username>
works fine. But when I tries to use ls or groups <username>, it returns the

Binary Packages SuSE9.0 != SLES9
Hi
I need to install a current version of samba on a server running
SuSE9.0 :-/
My Idea was to use the binary package provided at samba.org for SLES9
but I do not have the exact libraries that are needed:
libtalloc.so.1 is needed by samba-3.2.8-2.1.140
libtdb.so.1 is needed by samba-3.2.8-2.1.140
libwbclient.so.0 is needed by samba-3.2.8-2.1.140
-> these are also

Fwd: could not read attribute 'gidNumber' --> seems to work with ldapsearch
If I run a normal ldapsearch it gives me the gidnumber and uidnumber
attributes. It looks like the AD is set up properly.

SAMBA on AIX --> nsswitch.conf?
Hi
I am still trying to run SAMBA on AIX with "security = ads" and I have
a few questions:
- on AIX is no such file as /etc/nsswitch.conf --> Do I have to add
the configuration somewhere else?
- I allways get this "User xy is invalid on this system" if try to map
a share from Windows. What does this mean? Is the user invalid on the
Domain? on AIX? on SAMBA? Is the User

Restoring a DomU HVM-Domain is "slow" (Bandwidth 23MB/sec from a ramdisk, xen3.2.1)
Hi,
i do some tests with restoring HVM winxp-domU''s.
Even, if i restore a saved DomU from a ramdisk, the
Restoring-process has only a bandwidth about 23MB/sec:
Here a example restoring an 512MB HVM opensuse10.3 DomU

NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS
Every few weeks users are not able to logon anymore until i restart the
winbind daemon. The message in winbind.log is NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS.
after that PAM (system-auth --> pam_succeed_if.so) is not able to resolve
the active directory groups anymore. The quick fix is to create a new
situation in our monitoring tool to restart the daemon if this message
appears in the log. Is this a known

security = ads --> invalide user
Hello
I try to run SAMBA with security = ads on AIX 5.3 with SAMBA 3.0.23d.
"net ads join" was successful and the machine is now visible in the Domain
with the netbios name.
When I try to access the shares on the machine the log.smbd files says:

force user and read only
Hi
I need a share with read-only access for some developers (to read
logfiles). the logfiles are owned by the application user and group
and have 700 permissions. I have set up the share like this:
path = /applicationx/logs
read only = Yes
valid users = "MYDOMAIN+DEVELOPER1"
force user = applicationx
It does work very well, but somehow it does not look

winbind rfc2307 mapping not "correct"
IMHO the option "winbind nss info = rfc2307" does not fully conform to
the rfc2307 spec to generate user and group data and is thus
"incorrect". The way it is currently done does solve one issue related
to group membership mapping, but if I understand the way permissions are
checked it is a non-issue.
I think it is broken in the following 2 ways:
1. to generate the GID of

tilde username
Hi
I use winbind with ADS security for authentication. If I write "ls -la
~username" in bash or ksh and press TAB or escape to resolve the
HOMEDIR the shell hangs until I cancel with Ctrl+C. After that I have
to restart winbind!
If I press enter after "ls -la ~username" it works. I use
samba3-winbind-3.0.28-35 on RHEL4U6 (32bit). Any idea?

groupmapping impossible?
Does someone know how to do this group mapping in samba? why does "net
groupmap x y" has no effect? If I map a domain group to a local group,
then the members of the domain group should be treated as members of
the local group, or not?

OT: SMB Protocoll issues
Hi list
This is not a samba issue but I think some of you should be familar with
the SMB Protocoll.
I have the problem that opening the file-list on a Network share takes
much too long (up to one minute). I dumped the traffic with whireshark
and found some strange thins:
I get a request from the client:

So far we've only added constrained FP intrinsics for operations that have
side effects (i.e. can trap).
The quiet-computational sign-bit operations are special. They never

Add a month to a Date object
Howdy all,
This may be the dumbest question in the world, but how can you "add
one month" to a Date object? I can''t just add 30 days, because months
have varying lengths.
Any help would be much appreciated...
Thanks!

[FPEnv] FNEG instruction
Well, yes, they are different operations. And, yes, this needs to be corrected. This wasn’t my point. It’s a given.
I was getting at the _declared_ absence of side effects and what promises we make to anyone using the new fneg instruction. Is this a promise we want to make?

Combined Marimekko/heatmap
Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out a way to create a data graphic that I haven't ever seen an example of before, but hopefully there's an R package out there for it. The idea is to essentially create a heatmap, but to allow each column and/or row to be a different width, rather than having uniform column and row height. This is sort of like a Marimekko chart in appearance, except that
