SAMBA+LDAP-How to promote Administrator with all priviliges?
Hi,
I have setup samba+ldap an almost everything went well, accept the fact,
that there was no administrative account from the beginning. So I just
created one using smbldap-useradd.
samba-pdc:~# /usr/sbin/smbldap-usershow administrator
dn: uid=administrator,ou=Users,dc=rhhu,dc=local

upgrade 3.0.1 -> 3.0.2, problem with homes-share
Hi!
We are using Samba 3 in SuSE-linux 8.2 with ldap.
After upgrading from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 we got following problem:
When users log-in homes-share is not allways reachable, so automatic
homedrive-mapping and roaming profiles doesn't work. This doesn't happen
everytime, but quite often.
And after login users can map their homedrives manually.
Users have following attributes in LDAP

AW: Outlook 2002 and roaming profiles
Hello,
This is the way for the normal .pst file where outlook stores ist
information about the normal folders. I had moved this pst to my
homedrive and it works fine. The problem is my IMAP account. When you
create an imap account in outlook it creates another pst file in the
normal path. This file is called machinename0000006.pst e.g.
If you move this file to another path, outlook wont ask at

Weird problem with mixed up id's
Several users get sometimes the wrong profile.
I have one example here:
The user bfs1a-15 logs in. The batch file is created, transfered to the
client and executed. Among others there is a line saying:
net use p: /home
The user gets an error, saying "the password for \\fileserver\fg13z-15 is
wrong, type in the for \\fileserver\fg13z-15:" (translated from german).
I know from the past

pam_winbind.so and home-directory creation
Hello,
today I tried to auth users against winnt-pdc. I set up
winbind and can login via DOMAIN+USER locally (debian), BUT
login always promts:
"No directory, logging in with HOME=/"
Can't fix this. Here's my configuration:
--- smb.conf ---
workgroup = <WORKGROUP>
winbind separator = +
winbind cache time = 10
template shell = /bin/bash
template homedir =

I can change the group ownershipp of the DVD drive, but if I log out &
in again it changes back. Is there a way to make a change permanent?
How could I figure out what process is changing this back?

samba4 [homes] | canonicalize_connect_path failed for service
Hi,
Meanwhile we've come many steps further, and a new issue has risen. In
samba4 AD we have a user with:
- homeDirectory \\server\username
- homeDrive P:
- scriptPath logon.bat
When this user logs on, logon.bat is executed successfully, but
homeDirectory is NOT mounted on P: and in the logs we see:
canonicalize_connect_path failed for service username,
path /\\server\username
It seems

passdb: password contains illegal chars question
Hi,
some question about passdb backend:
I'll receive this (using dovecot 2.0.13, pgsql passdb backend) for some users:
mail dovecot: auth: passdb(account-username,127.0.0.1): Attempted login with
password having illegal chars
Password schema ist crypt-md5.
So what "chars" does dovecot not like (why?) and whats the preferred way to fix
this?
regards

Announce: multilm
I uploaded the package "multilm_0.1.tar.gz", which implements multivariate
linear models and test procedures (T^2 and stabilized multivariate procedures
by Laeuter et. al.).
The function "multilm" allows the specification of multivariate linear
models Y = X B + E, parameter restrictions Z B = 0 and linear hypotheses
K B = 0. The Hotelling T^2 test ist computed and also

Ownership and permissions when syncing directory contents
When you rsync a directory, say `$rsync mydir/ ...` with the trailing
slash, the destination directory is changed to the ownership,
permissions and timestamp of `mydir`.
Consider this simple example
$ mkdir test
$ cd test
$ mkdir a b
$ touch -d '01 jan 1980' a/A
$ touch -d '15 jun 1985' a
$ touch -d '02 feb 1990' b/B
$ touch -d '25 aug

Permissions and ownership on /dev/kvm keep reverting after starting a vm
Hey guys,
/dev/kvm permissions and ownership keeps reverting after starting a vm.
The ownership and permissions keep going back to
crw-rw—— root root ....
After starting a vm. I have to revert the perms and ownership to:
crw-crw-crw root kvm ....
To start any vm but it goes back to the first set of permissions as soon
as I start another vm. Wondering what could be doing this?
Cheers,
Tom

problems with acl permissions changing ownership
Hi
I am trying to get a non privileged user to update config files for
apache httpd and have attempted the following:
I have set the following permissions:
setfacl -m user:deployer:--x /etc/httpd
setfacl -R -m u:deployer:rwx,o::--- /etc/httpd/conf.d
setfacl -R -m u:deployer:rwx,o::--- /etc/httpd/conf
I then have a script that is run as the deployer user to checkout config
files from svn and

Default mbox file ownership and permissions with static userdb
Hi there!
I'm using Dovecot 1.1.7 in a simple setup with a static userdb:
userdb:
driver: static
args: uid=50018 gid=50019 home=/home/dovemail
When my users create folders via IMAP, the ownership of the mbox file is
user dovemail, group dovemail, and permissions are 600. I'd like this to
change to user dovemail, group doveusers, permissions 660, but I can't
figure out a
