Smba with Amanda backup --- permissions
Hi,
I am trying to create a Samba share on /media/winshare with the owner as
amandabackup instead of root. But as soon as I mount the Samba share on to
the mount point, the permissions for the owner get reverted back to root
instead of amandabackup.
Attaching a snapshot of how it looks like.

Having a problem ...
Running a Windows 2000 domain; recently we've made some security
changes to deny anonymous users from being able to get at our user list.
It would appear that one of my Domain Controllers hadn't been rebooted
after that security change, and now that it has been rebooted, I can't
mount smb shares off of one of our if the security setting is in place.

FW: Slow opening files on Samba Version 3.0.22 (UPDATED)
Hello,
We are running Samba Version 3.0.22-13.30-1290-SUSE-SLES10 on an iSeries
LPAR with 512 memory and .10 of the processor and a GB NIC. I have
successfully joined this server to our Windows 2000 active directory. I
have copied over some data and setup some test shares and mapped the share
on my pc. I can browse the files in the share with no problem but when I
open any type of file

Feature request: 'dovecot-shared' files to be configurable
Hi list,
using dovecot in a more complex environment nearly always requires use
of ACLs and shared mailboxes/folders. Now, to make life more easy for
the users, we can use 'dovecot-shared' files to eable per-user
\seen-flagging. Is it possible to make this issue configurable in the
dovecot config, something like "always keep a 'dovecot-shared' file in
users maildir, even if

listing available subscriptions - shared mailboxes
hi everybody,
got a strange issue with 1.2.4 on SLES11. When listing the user's
available subscriptions with any client, every shared mailbox that can
be subscribed is listed twice, once with it's correct name, 'folder' for
example. the second appereance is without the last letter of the name,
'folde' for example. strange behaviour, since this happens with any
client. i

Can't access dirs with subgroups of a samba share
Hi all!
Here's the problem we have since patching Monday night. Tuesday morning
Samba wasn't running, but started fine, and everything seemed to be working.
Were currently running samba3.0.24-2.23 and I believe before the patch
we were running samba3.0.22-13.30.
We have some samba shares where we have subgroups that only a select
group of people of the parent group are allowed to

PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello,
I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs.
As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user
will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a
domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one.
As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a
copy of a profile of a given user, right?
If so, how can

Samba 3.2 Ldap problem
Hi,
I've running a samba 3.0.22-13.30 server in standalone mode (security=user) for quite a while. It's authenticated against an openLdap and works great, say Server A.
A few days ago I've installed OpenSuSE 11 Beta 2 in another server, it came with samba 3.2.0-18, so as I'm very lazy I copied the smb.conf file from the working server to the new one with little modifications

[LLVMdev] Proposed implementation of N3333 hashing interfaces for LLVM (and possible libc++)
Hello folks,
TL;DR: This is my proposed hashing interface based on a proposed standard
hashing interface. It also is implemented with a much faster and higher
quality algorithm than the current one. This is an *early draft* of the
code, looking for initial feedback.
There has been recent interest in improving the quality and consistency of
LLVM's approach to hashing. In particular, getting

Help with printing
Good Evening:
I have three machines in a small home network. One of the machines runs Red
hat Linux 9 with Samba 2.2.7a. Attached to the Linux box is an HP LaserJet
5p printer. I've successfully configured the printer through the Cups
utility, and can print from the Linux box. The other two machines in my home
network run Windows XP Professional. I'm trying to configure both of the

Compile dovecot 1.2.5 with managesieve patch 0.11.9?
Hi,
is it possible to compile dovecot 1.2.5 with the managesieve patch
0.11.9 which is for dovecot 1.2.4 or is it better to wait if a new
managesieve patch is released? Maybe 1.2.5 will work too?
Thanks,
Seba

Lustre buffer cache causes large system overhead.
We have just discovered that a large buffer cache generated from traversing a
lustre file system will cause a significant system overhead for applications
with high memory demands. We have seen a 50% slowdown or worse for
applications. Even High Performance Linpack, that have no file IO whatsoever
is affected. The only remedy seems to be to empty the buffer cache from memory
by running
