Samba 3.0.33, security = domain and Windows 2008 R2
I have a number of Samba servers on RHEL (Samba 3.0.33) in an AD environment using a mix of Windows 2008 and windows 2008 R2 servers. Configuration file is pretty minimal: [global] workgroup = AVWORLD security = DOMAIN log file = /var/log/samba/samba.log max log size = 500 wins server = 10.50.4.31 dns proxy = no #log level = 10 log level = 3 passdb:5 auth:10

FC6 and winbind separator ignored?
I'm trying to join my FC6 box to our Active Directory domain. For the most part the setup was pretty straightforward, but it just doesn't seem like winbind separator is being honored. When I do a 'getent passwd' I get the following: AVWORLD\johnXXXX:*:16782801:16777216:XXXXXXXX:/home/AVWORLD/johnXXXX:/bin/bash

[ESRI-L] outline polygons of point clumps
Sorry, I did not make my question clear. Since I have a point theme with many points, some of them may clump together. the problems here are: 1. how to find clumps in a point theme? 2. the convex-hull extension I found only deal with all the points in a theme at each time? how to make each convex hull around each point clump automatically? Thanks. Xiaohua On 5/12/06, Bob Booth <bbooth

RGDAL OGRwrite question
I have a quick question: It appears that in rgdal v0.7-12 (R version 2.15.1, OSX 10.6.8) writeOGR will not write a shapefile the the current directory. Is this correct? An earlier version of rgdal must have allowed this because I have a older script that used to work, but doesn't now. So, as an example, here is what I get today: > shape = readOGR('.',

SOLVED was Re: Any ESRI users? Upgrade 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a broke Arcmap layer loading?
Did not hear from anyone on this, so maybe we are the only ESRI users who got bit, but this turned out to be an issue with oplocks. Disabling oplocks on the server eliminated the problem. Any ESRI users? Upgrade 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a broke Arcmap layer loading?
We just upgraded our samba server from 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a and have discovered a subtle but very painful problem. Users of ESRI ArcMap (on fully patched Windows XP clients) are unable to read complex layered file data. Arcmap works fine with 3.0.14, it works fine with the data on a windows share, and it works fine when I set up a server to run the version of samba shipping with Solaris 9 (3.0.2! ).

users map with ADS not working
Hi All I am running two instances of samba on same box. One instance of samba has joined AD domain ABC and the other 123. My workstation is on ABC domain and when I try to connect to samba server on ABC domain, it asks me for user name and password and then fails. If I put IP address instead it works. At the same time, when I try to connect to 123 domain, it asks me for user name and password and

getpwnam() fails for LDAP Users on AIX 5.3
Hello List, below our smb.conf and loglevel 5 output of a failed authentication. We want to get the Unix User details from MS-SFU using the new idmap_ad Backend. If the Windows User is mapped to local name it's all fine. But if we want to use our SFU Users it fails. We believe getpwnam() on AIX is faulty. "id username" and login works for all users local and AD! Any ideas how to

adding samba4 member to samba4 domain
I'm having some problems I don't quite understand adding a samba4 member to a samba4 domain. The member joins without problems, but no one can login. I'm guessing it might be an idmap problem (well, see below for more details) - the login server is several times updated, and started using alpha16 I think, but does not have any idmap backend configuration at all... Could I add that,

Map to Guest not working
All, I've migrated a share from an older samba server (3.0.33) running on a Sun Solaris box to a newer samba server (3.6.23) running on a RedHat Linux 6 box. For the most part I've tried to keep the configuration the same (simply to make the migration easier since I'm not an expert on Samba config options). I got the authentication working (security=domain) but now I'm

AD-Shares not accessible with 3.0.31
Starting with version 3.0.31, it is not possible to access shares on a Windows Server 2000 SP4, even though it is possible to join the domain controlled by that Server. The same configuration worked "fine" (for one hour) with 3.0.30. What has changed? What do I need to configure or compile differently to get back to 3.0.2x behaviour? The commands #> wbinfo -u #> wbinfo -g #>

3.0.25a && rfc2307
I'm receiving the errors listed below. It also seems unable to map the root user uid 0 with this filter. That's not that big of a deal. Wbinfo -u and -g return output but getent passwd does not. Finding users in trusting/trusted domains
We're currently migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. Exchange 5.5 is in a Samba3 domain (DOM1), and Exchange 2003 is in a 2000 mixed-mode domain (DOM2), and trusts are active in both directions. Part of the process requires that we grant users in the DOM2 domain admin rights to the LDAP server on the Exchange server in DOM1. When we try, we're able to browse the DOM2 userlist

Unable to access server with IDMAP_RID in place - samba 3.2.0
Greetings, I have a number of samba servers that will need to become Active Directory (AD) member servers. The testing I've done so far with default mapping has worked just fine. I configured a server to be an AD member server, joined it to AD but was unable to access it from a client PC - I get prompted for authentication on the client which shouldn't be happening. The log file
