Resolve Domain
Dear list, Samba allows our school to use on non-free operation systems on work stations. Or should I rather put it this way: In combination with Debian-Edu, Samba allows us to use free operations systems on servers and work stations despite the fact that some colleagues stick to Windows... Now, we observe a problem that still needs to be examined further on: If the server has been running

Samba: Domain "Skolelinux" not available if IP beyond 10.0.2.239
Dear list, our Debian Edu system used to be stable like a rock. After holidays, I encountered an issue as follows: The last 8 of 20 clients in our cabinet cannot log in to samba, their message is "domain not available". I checked cables and switches - and IPs (from 2nd boot partition running Debian Edu without problem), nothing that differs from other machines. It stroke me that all

My Mailserver setup looks like the following: virtual users are stored in a mysql database, and having their Mailbox here: /srv/mail/$domain/$uid/ Local users have a Maildir folder in their home directory. The only point i found in the web concerning this issue is this post here:

Windows 2000/2003 shares -> danish character problem
Hallo, I know this problem is marked as solved, but here is another solution, a solution which makes it possible still to use smbfs. I have been working on a project connecting Skolelinux ltsp-server to a windows 2000 server in norwegian secondary school and came across the same problem ( that is one of the teachers and his students in my school did first). Searching the net I found the

[OT?] Kerberos, PAM, NSS: if user does not exist, pam_krb5 try login?
A bit more then a curiosity. Mobing from Samba/NT to Samba/AD i'm now switching some 'one-purpose' (mostly containers) from libpam-ldaps to libpam-krb5. In these box normally i don't need user access, so i create 'manually' (eg, in /etc/passwd) only the admin users, and i add only the PAM layer to do external auth. Still i use ssh keys for direct root access, but as an

Bug#436250: deactivating the vnc access
Hi What is the status of this security bug? The fedora crew decided to disable the access to the QEMU monitor via VNC. Does the debian team want to take the same road? Some sort of applied patch for this is attached (but still needs to be checked). Some short feedback on this bugreport would be much appreciated. Thanks for your efforts. Files not shown with Samba 3.0.4 debian backport
Hi, we are using Debian Woody with Samba 3.0.4 backport. The Clients are Windows XP pro. Since we use this version of Samba a problem occurred twice: In a huge directory there are files not shown in the Explorer. The files are there, the rights are ok, if we want to overwrite the file, Windows says that it is there, but it is not shown. An example: Ablaufinformation - EB-Wahl Okt 02.doc (not
